Bright Angel Lodge , Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, United States
A brief look at the simplest (and cheapest) accommodation at Bright Angel Lodge on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and my first walk from the cabin to the Canyon edge...it really is very close.
The video starts with my first look inside the cabin (I am carrying all my bags and filming) which is the cheapest I could get but had to booked months in advance ($140 +tax per night room only). I then show a clip of my first walk to the canyon edge, only 60m or so from my cabin, which also happens to be the furthest one from the edge. Absolutely brilliant placing for stunning view the next morning.
The room was very basic, summed up by an old, non flat-screen TV. (Haven't seen one of those for years but still better than none at all which was the case at the north rim 2 days later.) No air conditioning but this really wasn't a problem, even in mid-August although the fan is noisy and light sleepers might struggle.
I didn't use any other facilities in the Lodge so cannot comment on how good or bad they are compared with other places. Overall, for access to the Canyon, I would have to say the cabins are perfect.
Bright Angel Point Overlook Trail | 2019 | Grand Canyon
Bright Angel Point Trail is a 0.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near North Rim, Arizona that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is best used from May until October.
Bright Angel Point - some of the best views in the Grand Canyon
One of the best and most accessible spots to view the Grand Canyon is not on the well-traveled South Rim, but on the lesser traveled North Rim. The walk (or hike) to Bright Angel Point over the course of a quarter mile has fantastic views for all skill levels and ends at an elevation of 8,148 feet, some 5,780 feet above the Colorado River below. The only downside to this hike is that the North Rim is not open year-round like the South Rim, which visitors should be aware of when planning their trip.

The beautiful Grand Canyon in all of it's glory! These shots were taken along the south rim area, at Mather Point, and Bright Angel. If you go to Las Vegas, you should spend one of your days taking a bus tour here. It is well worth the 4+ hour journey.

9-12-14: Today was a somewhat rearranged day because we were planning on heading to Valley of Fire State Park tomorrow. Yet because of I-15 still being closed from all the flash floods several days prior, we changed our plans to instead head up to Great Basin National Park. I reserved a KOA campground for two nights at Ely, Utah, 20 miles outside of Great Basin.
The first part of the day was taking a ride south to Grand Canyon National Park North Rim, a somewhat little seen area of the Grand Canyon because it is so hard to get up there. It’s in such a remote area that it’s got only a fraction of the number of people that explore the South Rim. So it was a bit more peaceful with fewer crowds. And I was glad to check out the area since the last time I was there was 2001. My dad also didn’t want to go to the North Rim two years ago. So this was sort of like closure for me. The views were still pretty amazing.

Grand Canyon - Bright Angel Trail - FULL VIDEO TOUR
Bright Angel Trail is THE trail which descends into the Grand Canyon from the South Rim (The South Rim is the most frequented destination as it has the famous horseshoe bend etc). We started really late in the afternoon, so we hiked until the darkness caught us. It's crazy how sudden elevation loss can make you feel extremely dizzy and woozy. Climbing back up and out can also instantly make you feel better. Definately a strange experience with that. There were campgrounds along the way (Which you need to pre-book) and also toilets etc. If you make it to the bottom, you can also hike back up the North Kaibab Trail (to the North Rim) and make it an incredibly long hike.

The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa, Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Navajo: Bidááʼ Haʼaztʼiʼ Tsékooh, Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

Bright Angel Cabin Tour: Grand Canyon
(MELLOW WANDERER) When Mellow Wanderer planned a South Rim stay a year before our visit, Bright Angel Lodge was our choice. The cabins are right on the rim. We reserved one with a partial rim view. To our surprise, we got more than we expected. The main cabin window looks-out directly to the rim. Plus, a second door led us to a small patio and sitting area, which was just a few steps to the rim trail. The location was ideal and within walking distance to everything: lodge restaurants, overlooks, Grand Canyon Railroad Depot, Bright Angel Trail, and the bus terminals where tourists take free shuttles to the numerous points of interest. Arizona off my 50 state bucket list
1996 my son David, Millie and her parents Gerard and Luz Conde and I went for a walk in the Grand Canyon, Arizona. I can now scratch off Arizona from my 50 state bucket list.
