Rhode Island: Health Equity Zones
This webinar was brought to you by the NPA Federal Interagency Health Equity Team’s webinar series, Promoting Health Equity through Programs and Policies. It took place on January 28, 2016.
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RI DOH) has implemented a framework to improve the health and well-being of the state’s population through a focus on the social and environmental determinants of health (SEDH). This approach uses a life course perspective to achieve health equity and demands a better understanding of what is happening at the community level through the communities’ lenses. The presenters will discuss the creation of Centers for Health Equity and Wellness (CHEW) grants to community-based organizations serving low-income neighborhoods in Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls. The webinar will also discuss place-based initiatives called the Health Equity Zone (HEZ) that facilitate community collaboration in conducting baseline assessments that look at the SEDH and in creating, implementing and evaluating a Plan of Action. The presenters will discuss the outcomes, challenges and lessons learned from the CHEW initiative in the shift from an “agency based approach” to a “place based approach” focused on collective impact.
Presenters:
Ana P. Novais, MA Lead Presenter, Director Title V/MCH Director and Executive Director of Health, Rhode Island Department of Health

KOA Campground 4th of July (3 of 6) Documentary 2011 7 i X Campsite 11 3.mp4
After work one night a South American girl took me with her South American group to another club where I watched outside of Madrid 2 young girls die on stage doing a show. It is out of the center and I knew I would never find it again and I left the girls and myself knowing an end. They dropped me off almost morning in Madrid, and I was a vested Stripper. I walked to my hostel and I was working. I met my husband upstairs where they do a Theater show. We married to get Visa's and to support each others lives in our country and his. We are married each with a Visa. Veinte Cuatro de Estados Unidos that's 24 Pamela of the United States of America. That was my stripper name. Honest and yea, I gave them my passport. I guess I was an intern. I stopped after 2 weeks and was told by Angela, the manager Jose's wife that I could work there anytime. I went back once and Miguel and I never went together back there again. I taught English in Madrid and learned Spanish at C.E.E. Immersion and it does work and I love my teacher who went all out and I think found me to be the start of what she could be. A teacher. I wasn't as blessed as her and didn't find my calling but found Wall Street School of English and the Owner and the Master mind of it all a man who saw Martin Luther King speak in at UCLA. He told me his story of I had a dream and of his own. He did it and with me sent me away to find mine. The United States of America Boycotted Spain for almost 20 years with the government under Franco. A socialist government but when I was visiting it was a Democracy with Aznar as President with a Lawyer wife same as Bill Clinton with Hillary Clinton. They ended this Democracy soon after we married and my husband went back to Spain and I stayed here because he thought it was better we part and I live on this side of the Atlantic. I met another man from work and he married me spiritually I guess with Lasagna and flowers after I had a long day at work and got me the Platinum in the band I had wanted. My husband got me white gold and a diamond. I wanted platinum and blue. My nickname is Blue or Pamablue with a Platinum Shreves band. I was later diagnosed with Schizophrenia and am an Affective life. Not so monotone. More enthusiasm so to say... Anyway, I've been in this relationship since my husband left back to the other side of the Atlantic in 1999. I tried in that year to move to Spain but ended up back here after a dangerous year. I have been with Kevin Jory ever since. Wow! Time goes by doesn't it. I this 4th of July remembered my childhood and what I was here in the United States of America that made me be me now. And, in the 1970's my father was a hippie married to a Mexican woman from Minneapolis.
