Hani Rice Terrace and Yi people in April!
Hani Rice Terrace and Yi people in April!
Hani Titian is the largest rice terrace, lied in Yuanyang in the relatively underdeveloped southeast part of Yunnan, Honghe Hani and Yi People's Autonomous Region, Yunnan, southwest of China.
Yuanyang is renowned for its rice terraces crafted out, no sculpted by bare hands by the Hani people one thousand years ago, transforming a barren valley into a humid Eden; perfect for rice crops. The 1000m of mountain slopes of terraces is still in use today, claiming to be the world's most spectacular and extensive terraces.
CCC offers this special trip to Yuanyang, and Jianshui, a gateway to Yuanyang, which is a little town with interesting historical architectures and relics, including a mini Tiananmen Gateway.

Diplomatic Ties between China and Sri Lanka and its overall impact upon the general political environment in the world is one of great fascination. Indeed it is a partnership that has had a huge impact on Sri Lanka economically and socially. Its impact has been felt by almost all segments of Sri Lankan society. It has been a partnership that has been closely watched by the great powers in the world. It is a necklace of pearls around both countries. Sri Lanka is going through a period of great change. The Chinese Government still wants to honour these ties and wishes to further consolidate this relationship.
Guangxi Region comprises of many ethnicities of China and the region is popular due to its rich cultural heritage and beautiful natural landscape. The China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka initiated this unique program with the contribution and advice of the Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China in Sri Lanka.
“All the stakeholders and individuals must be congratulated for this noble endeavor. Guangxi is a very diverse region. There are so many minorities. Today’s event pays tribute to this cultural diversity. I have visited this area many times. So this theme of cultural diversity is relevant to 60 years of diplomatic ties between China and Sri Lanka. Events of this nature bring Guangxi and Sri Lanka much closer since there are many similarities between the two cultures. The people in both regions are so friendly and open. This is the first time we have the Guangxi cultural week and this is a new milestone. Human beings are cultural animals and we are attuned to each other culturally. This is why cultural relations between China and Sri Lanka are so important,” said Ambassador Liang.
With the vision of re-establishing the new maritime Silk route and with the initiative to create greater awareness of the economic prosperity that could have been achieved, the Chinese government has been engaging with a series of activities and the establishment of the China Cultural Center (CCC) in Sri Lanka is one such initiative of the cultural ministry of China.

Ubi Caritas - 2019 Lycoming College Choral Scholars Open Rehearsal
The 2019 Lycoming College Choral Scholars rehearse Ubi Caritas during their Open Rehearsal on April 26, 2019. For more on the choir, visit
Ubi Caritas was composed by Maurice Duruflé. The choir is directed by Dr. Daniel Hall. This open rehearsal is a public workshop, and selections are presented in varying stages of development.
The Lycoming College Choral Scholars program is an outgrowth of the college's 70-year-old Tour Choir, which expanded its mission in 2019 to become an official study-abroad program partnered with Lycoming's Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences (CEAE) that reflects the expanding international aims of the college. The Lycoming Choral Scholars (LCS) international program blends its central ambassadorial Tour Choir role with the academic rigors of a traditional semester-long course. It immerses participants in the culture and language of each country visited by providing expanded site visits, guided historical tours, and collaborative concerts with local communities and academic institutions. In May of 2019, the inaugural Choral Scholars program will travel to France for two weeks.
The Lycoming College Tour Choir has a long history of quality performances throughout the United States and the world. Since its inception in 1947 by Walter McIver, the choir has presented concerts in every state east of the Mississippi River, Texas, California, Canada, Puerto Rico, Argentina, China, and throughout Europe. The choir tours nationally each year and internationally every three years. In May 2016, the Tour Choir traveled to China for the first time, performing concerts in Shanghai and Beijing and holding workshops with a number of secondary schools' choirs.
The Tour Choir is selected by annual competitive audition from the Lycoming College Concert Choir, the largest of three choral groups at Lycoming College. The Concert Choir is comprised of students from all academic fields and is open to every student who loves to sing. The choir's repertoire consists of both sacred and secular music ranging from classical standards to new works by contemporary composers.
The Lycoming College Choir serves the school body by supplying music for every major school event on campus. In its seven decades, the choir has performed hundreds of concerts, including appearances at the National Cathedral, the Washington Shrine, the Crystal Cathedral, Coral Ridge, and New York City's St. John the Divine and St. Patrick's Cathedral. The Choir also gives frequent performances during Sunday services at Williamsport-area churches, including First United Methodist, Pine Street United Methodist, St. Mark's Lutheran, and St. John's United Methodist. In addition, the Choir often hosts and performs with visiting college choirs, such as various friendship choirs from Europe, and with local orchestras.
Lycoming's third and smallest choral ensemble is the Chamber Choir, an auditioned group that performs a diverse repertoire ranging from vocal jazz to major works. The Chamber Choir has been featured twice in the Holiday Celebrations at the White House, and the ensemble has sung with the Gregg Smith Singers, the Chieftains, and Barry Manilow.
Dr. Daniel K. Hall is only the school's fourth director of choral activities in the history of the 70-year-old program. Dr. Hall previously served as director of choral activities at Ohio University and West Texas A&M University, and led choirs from both schools on frequent tours of Europe. He is also an actively commissioned composer whose works have been widely featured at festivals and conventions. Dr. Hall has a D.M.A. in conducting from the University of Miami, an M.M. in conducting from Brigham Young University, and a B.A. in voice from Weber State University.
Lycoming College is a four-year independent coeducational college of 1,400 students enrolled in 36 majors. The College is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as a national liberal arts college. Located in Williamsport, PA, the college is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
The Lycoming College Music Department offers a major and minor in music and oversees the college choirs, orchestra, and band. Whether students choose to major or minor in music, or to be involved in one of the choirs, Lycoming’s liberal arts education encourages students to combine their love of music with other majors and interests. Regardless of major, students have the opportunity to take a variety of courses, including theory, music history, and electronic music. Advanced courses, such as composition, conducting, and special topics in music, are offered specifically for music majors. Lycoming hometown of Williamsport is a musical city with its own symphony orchestra, civic chorus, community band, and ballet, and is an ideal location for students with an interest in music.
