Crystal Mill - Colorado HD
when you introduce technology with history you get phenomenal life moments captured in time
The Crystal Mill, or the Old Mill is an 1892 wooden powerhouse located on an outcrop above the Crystal River in Crystal, Colorado, United States. It is accessible from Marble Colorado via 4x4. Although called a mill, it is more correctly denoted as a compressor station, which used a water turbine to drive an air compressor. The compressed air was then used to power other machinery or tools. Today it stands as a Colorado icon, and is reputed to be the most photographed site in the state.[2]

A long walk through Marble Mill Site Park, Gunnison County, Colorado
The town of Marble, Colorado (in Gunnison County) is where this historical mill site park is located (at an elevation of about 2,436 metres (7,992 feet).
The flyer, at the park's entrance, states; In 1905, the Colorado-Yule Marble Company was founded and proved to be the beginning of Marble's greatest boom.
This site was the location of a large marble processing mill in which marble blocks were carved and then shipped throughout the country. Colorado-Yule removed the blocks from the marble quarry located 3.9 miles [6.27 km] up the road, and across the bridge over the Crystal River. There is no public access to the quarry.
Touted by many to be the finest in its class, stone quarried in Marble became the perfect choice for structures like the Lincolm Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington Cemetery, and the Byron R. White United States Courthouse in Denver (formerly the U.S. Post Office and Federal Building).

Crystal City Trail - Colorado
The Crystal City Trail is a popular connector road which takes you to some of Colorado's most spectacular alpine heights, wilderness views, and of course, Crystal City . Incorporated in 1880, Crystal City was a thriving mining community at the time with hundreds of residents and amenities of the day. Now, most are long gone, and Crystal was a ghost town for several decades. Today, several families maintain their properties in Crystal City as summer residences. One structure remains as the most prominent icon for the city's past--the Crystal Mill.

The Crystal River Valley is among the top tourism attractions in the State of Colorado, located on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains, just a few miles south from the I-70 Hwy 82 exit at Glenwood Springs. Montezuma Colorado Ghost Town
Traveling through the mountains visiting old ghost towns. I videotapped an old school house that was used from the 1800's to as late as 1950. Desks and books are still in the school house.
Internet research:
MONTEZUMA SCHOOLHOUSE
5375 Webster St., Montezuma
National Register 1/9/207, 5ST.1043
The school building served as the educational center for this high mountain mining community from its construction in 1884 up until school consolidation brought about its closure in 1958. The building embodies the distinctive characteristics of the one-room schoolhouse building type. Its purpose is easily discerned by its form. The school exhibits such typical features as a front gabled roof, bell tower, vestibule, tall narrow windows, and associated privies.

The first night we went and explored the Hartmans. Top of the list is The Black Canyon! We peered out from the top and drove to the bottom! Then we went to Morrow Point Lake! It reminded me of Hawaii mountains! Then we went to the Mill-Castle trail. Although the Lightning had is turning around sooner than we would've liked the place was spectacular!! Footage shot with DJI Phantom 3, Nikon D7100, and iPhone 6!

This video covers days 3 and 4 of an epic 6 day trip into Colorado in June 2016. On this morning we departed Creede, Colorado before dawn and flew for two hours to reach Crested Butte, Colorado. I stayed high and worked my way west, following the East River up and over Schofield Pass on my way to the beautiful grass strip at Marble. We landed and set up camp next to the Crystal River which flows through the valley.
Later in the day, we took a 1 hour sunset flight to play around the high mountains east of Marble and landed right at sunset. We wanted to stay here another day, but the winds were predicted to become strong later the next day. We opted to cross back to Crested Butte while we still could.
The next morning we had frost on our wings, and had to wait for the sun to come out and melt the wings off. If you don't know this already, do not ever take off with even the slightest hint of frost on your wings because you have no lift. I took off first, followed by the 3 other trikes in our party. We climbed up high and checked the beautiful show capped mountains between Marble and Crested Butte. The continuous adrenaline rush is almost to much to bear. I left the mountains and descended to the lazy meanders of the East River and followed them for a few miles in a relaxing flight before landing at Crested Butte.
Amazing flights, my best ever.
