Eagle Ate Too Much to Fly!
* Meet Martin & his Birds Jan 16th & 17th at Lake Havasu City, AZ *
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator, educator, propagator, and master falconer with over 50 years of experience.
He was called out to the highway to rescue a Golden Eagle that seemed to be having trouble flying. Martin located the eagle near the highway and after seeing that the eagle could not fly to safety, he caught the bird to examine more closely.
An initial examination revealed a very, very full crop. This is where an eagle stores food and it was very stuffed full. Since the eagle was unsafe in that area, Martin brought her back to our rescue center for a more thorough examination and to give her a little time to digest that big meal.
After just one night stay, though still with some of her big meal in her crop, she was healthy and ready to return to the wild.
Martin took her up to C-Overlook which is a big safe area to release her back to the wild where she belongs.

_Our Mission_
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
_Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release_
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
_Informing, Educating and Inspiring_
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
The CCNP is 22.6 acres of beautiful canyon property donated by Pacificorp, in Cedar City, Utah. We are in the process of developing a permanent wildlife rescue facility and Nature Park for the children of Utah. Sitting on the transition point between the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin, the CCNP’s mission is focused on fostering appreciation, knowledge and wise stewardship of the Colorado Plateau and Great Basin environments, which include wildlife, botany, geology, history, and native culture.
Increased educational opportunities mean an increased awareness, knowledge and appreciation for the land we call home.
At age twelve, Martin Tyner started caring for the sick, injured and orphaned creatures in his home town of Simi Valley, CA. At age nineteen, Tyner was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.

Young Golden Eagle Separated from Parents
On July 14th, 2019, Martin received a call about a Golden Eagle. He was led to the area by some people riding motorcycles then took off on foot in search of the eagle. With his net in hand, Martin surveyed the area and in just a few moments, caught sight of the Golden Eagle. He ran a bit to catch up and angle in, before the last dash in high gear to capture the bird.
On first inspection, Martin saw the eagle was very skinny and very young. He determined the eagle was a very young one, probably not long out the nest, that somehow got separated from his parents.
Martin brought the eagle back to the rescue center and immediately gave him a good meal and plenty of fluids loaded with nutrients. Once fed, the eagle was put into our largest chamber and left alone to begin to his recovery.
This eagle stayed nearly 6 weeks, gaining weight and growing stronger. On August 23rd he was released back to the wild where he belongs.

“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

Eagle Found Lifeless but Still Breathing
On September 26th, 2019 Martin was called about a Golden Eagle seen along the side of a road that was not moving. After traveling out about 40 miles, Martin found the Golden Eagle as described, just laying beside the road showing little signs of awareness.
Upon picking up the Golden Eagle, Martin immediately noticed how thin he was and thought starvation was the most likely cause of his condition. Martin quickly put the eagle in a kennel and headed back the the rescue center. Getting fluids and some food into the eagle was top priority and Martin hoped the eagle would survive that long.
Once home, Martin quickly prepared a small meal and was pleased to find the eagle was still alive. The first feeding was quite difficult as the eagle was so weak and struggled to swallow. Once the eagle was fed a small meal, he was taken to a small chamber to rest undisturbed. The eagle took the same lifeless position laying on the dirt in the chamber.
Martin stayed up all night with the eagle, making frequent visits to feed and check on the bird. Unfortunately, the eagle passed away early the next morning.
Martin said sometimes they arrive already dead but still breathing.

Golden Eagle Release | Wildlife Images Rehabilitation and Education Center
This stunning release of the Golden Eagle named Beamer (named after Todd Beamer, a hero from September 11th, 2001) was released back into the wild on September 13, 2013. Beamer was brought to Wildlife Images in June with a failure to thrive diagnosis that took many months of patience from the animal care staff at Wildlife Images as they helped him learn how to hunt, fly, and feed for himself. Beamer took flight from Woodrat Mountain outside of Jacksonville Oregon best known for it's exquisite launching for hang gliders and paragliders. Wildlife Images Executive Director, Dave Siddon, stood on the edge of the mountain and let Beamer go. A small crowd of on-lookers were there to celebrate the moment. For additional information go to WildlifeImages.org Video was taken by Shawn Adams of Rotor-Head Productions.

Colorado:
Colorado is the U.S. state that encompasses most of the Southern Rocky Mountains as well as the northeastern portion of the Colorado Plateau and the western edge of the Great Plains. Colorado is part of the Western United States, the Southwestern United States, and the Mountain States. Colorado is the 8th most extensive and the 22nd most populous of the 50 United States. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the population of Colorado was 5,116,796 on July 1, 2011, an increase of +1.74% since the 2010 United States Census.
The state was named for the Colorado River, which early Spanish explorers named the Río Colorado for the red colored (Spanish: colorado) silt the river carried from the mountains. On August 1, 1876, U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant signed a proclamation admitting Colorado as the 38th state. Colorado is nicknamed the Centennial State because it was admitted to the Union in 1876, the centennial year of the United States Declaration of Independence.
Colorado is bordered by the northwest state of Wyoming to the north, the midwest states of Nebraska and Kansas to the northeast and east, on the south by New Mexico a small portion of the southwestern state of Oklahoma, on the west by Utah, and Arizona to the southwest. The four states of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah meet at one common point known as the Four Corners, which is known as the heart of the American Southwest.
Colorado is noted for its vivid landscape of mountains, forests, high plains, mesas, canyons, plateaus, rivers, and desert lands.
Denver is the capital and the most populous city of Colorado. Residents of the state are properly known as Coloradans, although the term Coloradoan is still used.
