First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich members assemble Care Packages for USMC
Watch more and discuss:
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich gathered Saturday to create care packages for a deployed Marine Infantry in Iraq.
We found a troop of about 30 men who had specific items they were requesting from home, said Erin Keys, the Associate Minister for Congregational Life.
We found the unit about a month ago. We sent them an email saying we wanted to do this. The Executive Officer said he would ask the guys what they want. He gave us a list and then people from the congregation went out and bought, said Steve Waters.
We put sardines, nuts, magazines, baby wipes, and other war things, said Katherine Sternberg.
Volunteers put together the packages addressed individually to each marine with a note from the children inside.
I made a card to say thank you to the marines working in Iraq, said Zach Sternberg.
It's just a little piece of home that they can have with them to let them know that people are still very much aware of the service they are giving to our country, and we are thinking about them, said Keys.
This brings many generations of the community together in support of the US troops.
We had people from age 5 to 85 working together. Lots of families, lots of ages. It gives a lot of people a fun thing to do for somebody else, said Waters.
The care packages are just one part of the Church's 4th annual Day of Faithful Service.
We cooked breakfast for a homeless shelter in Stamford, we folded clothes at Neighbor to Neighbor, said Keys.
Officials say they hope the troops will receive the care packages by next week.

1,500th video! P&W FPCH in daylight at Southport 6-23
With this video I now have 1,500 videos up on Youtube. Feels pretty good. And what a great video for it too. A short P&W FPCH running late Saturday evening with 22 empty stone cars rumbles by William & I. The engineer gave a us nice blast of the horn as 3 GEs & GMTX SD60 chug & hum by. P&W used to run Saturdays occasionally but stopped last year. FPCH only ran late on 6-23 since they got cancelled to run that Thursday before & had hotbox problems Friday night. Also, Will & I had no idea when this train would run back. We just happened to be out at the tracks an hour before I had to go home. It was a totally lucky shot in the dark. Enjoy the video!
