The History Of Lynchings In America. STUDY Released
On Tuesday, the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Ala., released a report on the history of lynchings in the United States, the result of five years of research and 160 visits to sites around the South. The authors of the report compiled an inventory of 3,959 victims of “racial terror lynchings” in 12 Southern states from 1877 to 1950.
Next comes the process of selecting lynching sites where the organization plans to erect markers and memorials, which will involve significant fund-raising, negotiations with distrustful landowners and, almost undoubtedly, intense controversy.
The process is intended, Mr. Stevenson said, to force people to reckon with the narrative through-line of the country’s vicious racial history, rather than thinking of that history in a short-range, piecemeal way.
“Lynching and the terror era shaped the geography, politics, economics and social characteristics of being black in America during the 20th century,” Mr. Stevenson said, arguing that many participants in the great migration from the South should be thought of as refugees fleeing terrorism rather than people simply seeking work.

GUAM, EXPLORING the WW2 American assault at ASAN BEACH ???? (1944) & the PITI GUNS
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's explore two very historic areas in Guam: Asan Beach, where on July 21, 1944 the Americans landed in Asan to recapture the island from occupying Japanese forces during the Battle of Guam, and, the PITI Guns, The Piti Guns or Piti Coastal Defense Guns, the site of three Vickers-type Model 3 140-millimetre (5.5 in) coastal defense guns in the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Piti, Guam.
Guam is a U.S. island territory in Micronesia, in the Western Pacific. It's distinguished by tropical beaches, Chamorro villages and ancient latte-stone pillars. Guam’s WWII significance is on view at the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, whose sites include Asan Beach, a former battlefield. The island’s Spanish colonial heritage is evident in Fort Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, atop a bluff in Umatac.

Lynching In The South To Be Memorialized In Alabama
The Alabama city that was the first capital of the Confederacy is set to become home to a privately funded museum and monument that could make visitors uncomfortable. The nonprofit Equal Justice Initiative has announced it is building a memorial in the state capital of Montgomery devoted to 4,075 blacks its research shows were killed by lynching in the U.S. The lynchings took place between 1877 to 1950.
Invoking horrific histories of other nations, the nonprofit's director said the aim is to help change the landscape of American racial discourse by openly acknowledging a painful past, much as Germany has Holocaust memorials and South Africa a museum on its past state-sanctioned segregation, apartheid.
He said that while hundreds of whites were lynched in roughly the same period of U.S. history, the memorial's focus will be on terror lynchings against blacks in a dozen Southern states.
