If you want to avoid the crowds at the Great Wall of China we recommend a few things. Firstly don't go to the Great Wall of China on a Weekend, there will be a lot more people there and you will miss out on the sights. Secondly head to Mutianyu Great Wall , although this is quite a developed section of the wall, it gives you a real sense of the size and importance of the Great Wall of China. Thirdly we recommend taking the bus there, although you can take a tour to the Great wall of China it is always recommended to take the bus, Chinese tourists will often take the bus and it is a great way to do China travel on a budget.
The Mutianyu toboggan, the Mutianyu Cable Car and the Mutianyu chairlift are all great ways to get up and down to the wall. But we recommend for the best experience at the great wall of china to go up the chairlift and take the toboggan back down. The China Great Wall sled ride or Mutianyu luge are totally worth it, one of our most fun experiences in China. Just make sure you leave enough space between you and the other guests to give enough speed.

How NOT to do the Great Wall of China | Mutianyu | Beijing, China
The great wall is something everyone needs to see if they make it to China. It's one of the greatest structures in the world and yes it's as amazing as you've heard. 6,000 kilometers of wall and there are plenty of options when it comes to which section of the wall you should visit. We went with Mutianyu and though it was awesome stepping off the gondola and onto the wall, we did a few things that we would change if we could do it again. Take some tips from us and see how to do the great wall the right way, by avoiding our mistakes.
We ended up booking a private car through Klook, the driver waited for us till we were done and it was a smooth ride back after our exhaustingly cold adventure. Here's the link the Mutianyu private transfer:

BEIJING TOUR | The Great Wall | Mutianyu | Tourist Attractions in China
The Great Wall of China is one of the miracles in the history of world architecture. Starting from the ancient Zhou Dynasty in China, the emperor began to build a wall on mountains to resist foreign enemies. The construction of the Great Wall has lasted for thousands of years until the Ming Dynasty. With a total length of more than 21,000 kilometers, it is an architectural miracle that has crossed the historical river and is known throughout the world. The Great Wall is the first choice for foreign tourists when they come to China. In this video, it seems as if you can almost touch the history of ancient China. And we are showing you a steep and beautiful scenic spot called Mutianyu in the Great Wall.
CityVeracity: Close travel experience, realistic photography style, film-like delicate texture, the most honest travel street shooting.
If you are dizzy and overwhelmed by dazzling travel promotion videos, then welcome to our chanel. We show the attractions from the most realistic perspective, not exaggerating, not fabricating, just honestly presenting the charm of each city.

The Great Wall o China, Mutianyu (慕田峪) is a thriving tourist destination for many residents and tourists. This is a small section of the wall within the Huairou District. 70 kilometers (43 mi) northeast of the center of the Beijing. Stretching across an impressive 2,250 (7,380 ft) meters, the wall is quite a challenge to trek. Along the way there are many vendors who offer refreshments to help you on your way.

Great Wall of China, Beijing - Winter is the best time to visit China!
The Great Wall of China is a World Heritage wonder and the only man-made structure that can be seen from outer space. It's a jaw-dropping sight at any time of the year but for a special treat, go in winter. You'd be surprised to find that winter is the best time to visit China and to explore the Great Wall without the crowds. The winter wonderland landscape is ethereal, especially when it snows on the Great Wall.
When visiting the Great Wall there are several places you can climb the wall. You can take a Badaling Great Wall tour or a Mutianyu Great Wall tour.
Visiting the Great Wall of China is one of the most iconic things to do when you're in Beijing. Walking the Great Wall of China is something everyone should try at least once. You don't have to walk the whole way. Well, you'd have to be pretty fit to do so!
It's a day trip to visit while staying in Beijing. My tour was organised by Bespoke Beijing. I stayed at China World Summit Wing in the Shangri-La Beijing.

The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City | BEIJING
Beijing is home to some of China's most incredible treasures and ancient historical sites. Most famously, The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City aka Palace Museum. As Kiwi Asians this was something we (and our family) always wanted to see in person in order to connect more with our Chinese roots.
Beijing accommodation is expensive especially when looking for a place that could fit all 6 of us. But after spending a fair bit of time looking for accommodation in Beijing, we ended up renting out an old, traditional Hutong in Beijing, China.
For our first family adventure in Beijing we went to visit the most famous and iconic Chinese landmark, The Great Wall of China.
The Great Wall of China is one of those must-visit and life bucket list items of many people including us so it was incredible to be able to finally visit it during our Beijing, China trip with our parents.
We entered The Great Wall of China from:
Mutianyu Great Wall Scenic Area Ticket Office
Address: Mutianyu Rd, Huairou, Beijing, China
If you're wondering what's the best way to see the Great Wall or what section to visit, Mutianyu (where we went) is supposed to be the less touristy and crowded of the entrances to the Great Wall in Beijing so although it was a bit further to travel we thought it was the better option as crowds in China are next level!
When we reached the The Great Wall of China, we walked from watch tower 6 to watch tower 1. Finally getting to see let alone walk along The Great Wall of China was a special and amazing experience for us. So much Chinese history and what an astounding feat of human engineering. We were fortunate to have clear blue skies in Beijing that day so we could see The Great Wall of China stretch on as far as our eyes could see.
After our time visiting The Great Wall of China we then travelled to the very scenic and beautiful Sacred Path also known as Sacred Way or Sacred Road in Beijing.
The Sacred Path of the Ming Tombs was a very peaceful and beautiful stretch of walkway. It's a great place to visit when in Beijing for its historical and scenic beauty.
The Sacred Path of the Ming Tombs
Ming Shisan Ling Area, Changling Town, Changping District, Beijing 102213, China
Beijing is also famous for Peking duck. We found the place where the delicious Peking duck dish was apparently first invented and ate there for dinner.
Quanjude Roast Duck (Wangfujing)
13 Shuaifuyuan Lu, Wangfujing, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China
The next day we woke up bright and early to visit Tiananmen Square which is very near the Imperial City and Forbidden City (now known as Palace Museum). When visiting Tiananmen Square's be prepared to see a huge amount of tourists there. Also at Tiananmen Square though, we saw various architectural highlights like the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and the Great Hall of the People as we made our way over to the Imperial City and Forbidden City (Palace Museum).
The Palace Museum / The Forbidden City:
Address: 4 Jingshan Front St, Dongcheng, Beijing, China, 100009
Going inside The Forbidden City is definitely a top thing to do in Beijing. The Forbidden City (Palace Museum) is without a doubt a top attraction and must visit in Beijing. The Forbidden City lies in the centre of the Imperial City in Beijing, China but just remember to look out for signs for the Palace Museum as you actually won't see anything saying Forbidden City.
It was amazing getting to explore this absolutely massive complex. Our whole family had the most incredible time in Beijing. Beijing with its many famous and top attractions is a must visit when in China. Getting to see The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City with our own eyes was an unforgettable experience and one that we feel blessed to have gotten to share with our parents especially given our Chinese roots.

MUTIANYU Great Wall in Winter! Easy Hike for Every Beijing Tourist!
MUTIANYU Great Wall of China with the Family in winter.
We visited the Great Wall of China, Mutianyu section in December 12, 2019. We are a family of nine (9), eight adults and one kid. It was -7 C when we left Beijing downtown area at 7am. The weather was between -2C to -4C when we reached Mutianyu by 9am.
We booked our MUTIANYU Great Wall adventure with Bus Tour on Klook. We got it on discount. Good for 2 People per set (we bought 5 sets for 10pax at P1,100 if I can still remember. No cable car ride included. We bought it separately from the Tour Guide at RMB 120, prices depends on the season).
Where to Book Great Wall of China Tour:
Mutianyu Great Wall 1-Day Tour ,
Pickup Time is 7am. They will tell you where the nearest pickup point.
Make sure to arrive on time. Bring water and snacks.
Travel Time from Downtown Beijing to Mutianyu is two hours.
After the tour, we had lunch in a Chinese Restaurant called Chun Ju Farm House. They served sumptuous and in huge serving. It was worth the money.
Although, there were only five of us who took the cable car and went all the way to the Great Wall Section overall, we had a great time in Beijing.
The Great Wall Of China - Mutianyu - Toboggan Ride & Cable Car || Family VLOG 2018
We chose to visit the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China, which is around 70km North East from Beijing. We took cable car to great wall (watch tower no 14) and walk to watch tower no 6 to take toboggan ride, it was so amazing and fun.
Mutianyu is popular because it is far enough away from Beijing to avoid the stifling large crowds (like at the Badaling section of the wall), but close enough to reach from Beijing in a round day trip.
The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is a masterpiece of restoration, with 23 original-style watchtowers. Mutianyu is the longest fully-restored Great Wall section open to tourists.
This is part 2 of our family holiday trip 2018.
Our family holiday trip this time, we were going to Singapore, China and Indonesia.

How to go to the Great Wall Mutianyu by public bus
This video shows how to get to the Great Wall at Mutianyu in Beijing by public bus.
Here is a summary of how to do it:
- Take the subway line 2 to the Dongzhimen station
- Take exit C and follow signs to the Transport Center
- Enter the transport center (next to the KFC) and look for bus 916 Express
- 916 Express is written as 916块
- bus fare is 12RMB or 6RMB if you have the transportation card (Yikatong)
- The bus takes a little over one hour to reach the village of Huairou. In Huairou you get off at the Huairou Bei Da Jie stop. Stops are announced in Chinese only. Let the driver know that you are getting off at Beijing-based Da Jie.
* **One or two stops before Bed Da Jie, someone will stick their head in the bus and yell Mutianyu Great Wall and wave you out. Do not pay attention to the scammers. The will overcharge you to take you there.***
- At Bei Da Die, cross the street to take bus H23 or H24 (5RMB). The ride will be about 15-20 minutes.
- Near that bus stop there will be some drivers with mini vans who will offer to take you to Mutianyu. It is ok to take these vans but negotiate a rate of 5RMB per person.
- Note that when returning to Beijing, you will take bus 916 at this bus stop.

Mutianyu Great Wall | How to get to the Mutianyu Great Wall of China by public transport
It is very easy to access the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China by public transport if you know what to do.
Find heaps more photos on our blog post about how to get to Mutianyu Great Wall:
Watch the video and for your reference, we have provided you with the steps of what to do below:
1. Go to Dongzhimen station (located on subway line 2)
2. Get the 916 express bus to Beidajie 怀柔北大街 (Do not catch another bus including the 980 as there have been bus-taxi-scams where the bus drops you in a random location and you are forced to take a taxi). It costs 12 Yuan or 6 Yuan if you have a public transport card.
3. Once you arrive at the Beidajie stop 怀柔北大街 go across the road and wait for the 23 or 24 bus to Mutianyu Great Wall
慕田峪长城. The bus driver will direct you where to get off or look for the bridge shown in the video. At this bus station, taxi drivers will try and convince you not to get the bus as it 'is not running'. This is untrue, it runs everyday until 7pm. The 23 or 24 bus costs 3 Yuan without a transport card or 1.5 Yuan with a transport card.
4. Walk 5 minutes down the road and you have reached the entrance to the Great Wall. Tickets cost 45 Yuan with a choice to buy a shuttle for an additional 15 Yuan. They will automatically charge you for the shuttle so indicate if you do not want it. It is a 1 - 1.5km walk if you do not take the shuttle to the Great Wall entrance.
5. You can either walk to the top of the Great Wall (30-40 minutes uphill) or take a cable car to the top (100 Yuan). In this section of the Great Wall there is a Toboggan ride downhill.
We highly recommend this section of the Great Wall as there are hardly any crowds and the views are great!
We also show you how to get travel around China. We recommend starting here to get an overview:
