Kobe - SHOPPING STREETS
Shopping in Kobe is ubiquitous but luckily it’s all within walking distance. When you first arrive at Sannomiya Station, you’ll be greeted by department stores like SOGO and OIOI where you can get many luxury fashion items. But if you’re into more the local shopping scene then it’s a must to venture into the shopping streets, also known as shotengai.
Kobe KYUKYORYUCHI
When Kobe it’s international port in 1868, this foreign settlement was constructed. Designed by British Civil engineers the 126 blocks were auctioned to western foreigners. 70% of the buildings were destroyed after the World War II air raids in 1945. Kobe city decided preserved the remaining buildings as cultural properties.

The subway system in Osaka is very efficient and the only mode of transportation you’ll ever need. However, it’s comprised of several lines and often requires multiple transfers, so it can be a little confusing. But if you rent a pocket wifi device, like Flytpack, and ask google for directions on your smartphone, then you should be fine.
Travelling to one place to another is convenient by using ICOCA Card. Here's why:
✔️Convenient discount card for JR, subway, private railway, buses and shopping in the Kansai area and around
✔️The contactless rechargeable smart card is the easiest way to travel around the JR West network including Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe
✔️Preloaded with 1,500 yen and 500 yen deposit
I’m not an expert on Osaka but I do hope that you find this guide useful. I’m only sharing some of the things I've learned from our trip. Go out there, explore and have fun!

A Kintetsu Rail Pass is an economical and convenient way to travel.
Are you visiting Japan right now?
If you think the Kansai area is just Osaka and Kyoto,
think again.
There are many other wonderful places to visit.
One is Mie, with its beautiful seascapes.
At the Iga ninja village, you can try the ninja experience,
and pretend you’re a hero from the Warring States period.
South of Osaka is Nara.
Famous sights include the huge Buddha statue and a park
where you can get close to deer that roam free.
A Kintetsu Rail Pass gives you unlimited travel on
Kintetsu lines linking Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Mie and Nagoya,
for 5 days!
But time is precious when you’re on holiday,
so we recommend buying them online, before you travel.

Travel Diaries 2017 | Osaka, Japan
Our adventures in Osaka, December 2017. In the afternoon of December 21 we boarded our flight to Osaka! We travelled via Singapore Airlines and transited in Singapore. As we were close to Osaka airport, I looked down upon the views of Japan and my heart skipped a beat as I saw lots of mountain ranges. It was beautiful. We stayed with Louis' family in Neyagawa and explored what Osaka and it's surrounding prefectures (Nara and Kyoto) had to offer. I really enjoyed my stay and am looking forward to revisiting.

Private train lines in Japan
Private train lines in Japan
In Tokyo, a network of subway lines and several railway companies make up the JR network. For example, Seibu Railroads connect Tokyo to Saitama Prefecture to explore Chichibu, and Tobu will take you from the Tokyo Skytree to Chiba and Gunma Prefectures. Finally, the Keikyu and Odakyu trains connect Tokyo to Yokohama, Kamakura, Enoshima and Hakone.
In Nagoya, the Meitetsu Railway Company connects Nagoya Station with Chubu International Airport. The Kintetsu and Keihan companies have networks in Kansai, including the Kyoto-Osaka route. Kintetsu trains also run from Nagoya to Ise, where you can go on to explore Nara or Wakayama Prefecture.
Osaka and Kobe are connected by local Hanshin and Hankyu companies, and there are many convoys of this company running in Japan.
The Keikyu N1000 series is a DC electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the private railway operator Keikyu on commuter services in the Tokyo area of Japan since 2002.
The railway network in Japan has been owned and operated partly by the public sector and partly by the private sector almost since the first railway line was opened in 1872. The building of many private lines during so-called ‘railway manias’ at the end of the 19th century and the first nationalization in 1906/7 are described in detail in A History of Japanese Railways 1872–1999, published by EJRCF.
On the initiative of the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the occupation forces, Japan's government railways was reorganized in 1949 as a public corporation called Japanese National Railways (JNR) that almost completely monopolized the nation's intercity rail passenger services and freight transport, until privatization and division in 1987.
The division split JNR into six independent passenger railway companies (commonly called JR Hokkaido, JR East, JR Central, JR West, JR Shikoku, and JR Kyushu) and one freight railway company (JR Freight). The passenger JRs own their own infrastructure while JR Freight carries freight on the infrastructure of the JRs. Although breakup of JNR was described as a privatization, only some shares of JR East, JR West and JR Central have been sold by the initial public offering so far with the rest being held by a government holding corporation (now a part of Japan Railway Construction Public Corporation). However, the government has announced that it intends to sell its remaining holdings in these three companies before the end of 2001.
In addition to the JRs, there are many private railway companies throughout Japan, but they generally offer only local services. Depopulation in rural areas forced many private railways to close lines serving rural areas since the 1970s to focus on very profitable operations in large cities where they could carry huge numbers of passengers. One of the most important features of railways in Japan is that private railways invariably play a large role in urban transit.

Kyoto Japan Travel Guide Vlog | Arashiyama Monkey Park & Bamboo Forest
Asslamu Alikom - Greetings of Peace everyone! We hope you enjoy our japan travel vlog about our day trip to visit Kyoto and the Arashiyama area where we visit the Monkey Park and Bamboo Forest.
Top Things to do in Arashiyama 嵐山:
1) Monkey Park Iwatayama
2) Bamboo Forest/Grove
3) Tenryu-ji Temple
4) Okochi Sanso Villa
5) Togetsukyo Bridge
This is part of our travel vlog from our day trip to Kyoto Japan where we started the travel vlog by visiting the top sites in Kyoto such as Fushimi Inari shrine, and temple, Gion district, we also visited a tea ceremony and went to the Nishiki market where we tried amazing japanese food.
Kyoto is a magical city, much more relaxed than Tokyo and Osaka, and is small in size so you can do a lot of fun activities in a short time. The second part of the day we visited the western part of Kyoto where we wanted to see Arashiyama area that is known for its beautiful views and the Monkey Park and Bamboo Forest.
To get to Arashiyama we took a taxi that dropped off right at the famous Togetsukyo Bridge. The bridge is a great starting point for this area where you get breathtaking views of the river and the mountains in the back. There are a lot of tourists here so this is a great thing to do at the beginning of your day in Kyoto.
The monkey park Iwatayama is west of the Togetsukyo bridge and it costs $5 USD to enter. Make sure you do not get there past 4 PM or else you will be unable to see the Monkeys. To get to the Monkey park you will need to hike up the mountain in Arashiyama that takes about 20 minutes. Once you get to the top of the mountain you will find the Monkey Park and lots of monkeys hanging around. You will also have a great viewpoint of Kyoto City where you can relax take some great photos and videos! Please do note feed the monkeys, there is a designated area where you can pay extra to buy bananas and chestnuts to feed the monkeys.
The climb up to top of the monkey park is filled with cherry blossoms trees and great nature.
After the monkey park, we wanted to visit the Bamboo Forest Grove that is about 2 Kms east of the monkey park. All you have to do is cross the Togetsukyo bridge and follow the path, you will pass a lot of great restaurants and stores where you can buy japanese food and matcha ice cream!
The Bamboo forest has one small entrance and you will see lots of signs telling you how to get there. This place is really busy so I recommend getting there early in the morning. The bamboo forest is amazing, the sun shining through the forest and just the peaceful feeling you get by walkng through the bamboo forest is amazing. This is a great opportunity to reflect and connect with nature and enjoy the Japanese culture!
The Bamboo forest is very close to a JR subway station that will take you back to Kyoto JR station where you can take the Shinkansen back to Osaka or back to where you are staying in Kyoto.
We left Kyoto hungry and ready to eat and went back to Osaka. We decided to try a Halal Shabu Shabu Sukiyaki and steak restaurant. Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki are Japanese Hot pots where you cook vegetables, meat and noodles together in a flavored broth that tastes delicious! The Shabu Shabu Restaurant was located in Namba Station and offers a lot of different meats that are Halal so its a great option for Muslim travellers who want to eat meat.

Japanese Inn & Kaiseki Cuisine: The Ryokan Stay Experience
A Traditional Japanese Inn stay can be the highlight of any trip to Japan, and this comprehensive tour of 13 hot spring towns will give you a complete picture of what to expect during a stay. From the tatami room to the kitchen and dining room, this is the story of the Ryokan.
After 20 years living in Japan, a Ryokan stay is the most authentic experience one can have traveling the country and Fukushima, Japan's third largest prefecture, is famous for that countryside charm and service found around its mountains. It's only a 75 minute Shinkansen train ride from Tokyo making it an ideal getaway from more crowded spots like Nikko and Hakone. In this video, you will see exactly what you will get from start to finish.
As Japan moves closer to the 2020 Olympics, services are catering more to international visitors and these hotels featured are all accommodating and friendly places, staff learning English to communicate with people from around the world.
▶︎ What is Kaiseki Ryori / Cuisine?
It's a traditional Japanese dinner with many courses including a starter, soup, side items, main course and dessert.
★ Sashimi / Sushi
★ Sukiyaki
★ Yakiniku
★ Tempura
★ Miso Soup
It's all here, and it's all prepared with local ingredients of the season, always freshly made in the kitchen.
▶︎ How much is a night at a Ryokan / Traditional Japanese Inn?
It is usually charged by the person instead of the room because it includes 2 meals, dinner and breakfast. On average, I have spent between 12,000 yen ($100) to 22,000 ($180) per person for a night and here is why it is worth it.
Of all the experiences you will have in Japan, this will be the one you remember the most, dressing in a cotton kimono (yukata) to walk down to dinner, bathing outdoors in a hot spring in the snow, extraordinary Japanese service, amazingly beautiful meals ... you're paying for an experience not just a stay.

Traditional Ryokan Dinner | Eating a Multi-Course Kaiseki Meal!
Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. Our most recent trip was to Japan where we spent 2 months traveling around the country and visiting the following destinations: Osaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, Takayama, Yokohama, Odaiba, Shirakawa-gō and Takao.
During our stay, we visited a mixture of big cities and small rural towns, where we enjoyed eating Japanese street food, trying traditional Japanese cuisine, visiting local attractions and staying in unique accommodations (such as capsule hotels and ryokans) that we are now going to share with you on this channel. The combination and contrast of visiting futuristic cities and traditional countryside areas is what makes travel to Japan so fascinating. Ultra modern versus traditional. This is the essence of Japan.
Our trip to Japan was unforgettable and until now it is one of our favorite countries that we have come to know. However, we only feel as though we just scratched the surface on this trip to Japan. If you want to see more videos from Japan in the future, let us know in the comments that places you'd like us to travel to and food experiences you would like to see on this travel channel.
Have you traveled to Japan before? What was your experience like? Please share your Japan travel tips, advice and experiences in the comments below.
Thanks again for watching our Japan series! Until next time!

Hiking Mount Rokko, near Kobe Japan (Kansai's best 100 mountains, #20)
Mount Rokko (Elevation:931m)
Location: Hyogo Prefecture (Day trip from Osaka, Kobe).
(Google Map: )
Walking time: 4hrs 40mins
Distance: 12.1kms total
Hiking Elevation: 1179m up, 840m down
Difficulty: Intermediate level
Climbing season: mid-March ~ end-November
Notes: A scenic hike highlighting the best of the Rokko mountain range. Great sweeping views from the top, all the way from Kobe to Osaka, and as far as Awaji island and Wakayama. Finish up with a bath in one of the oldest (and one of the 3 “most famous”) hot springs areas in Japan, Arima Onsen. Warning: watch out for cheeky wild boars. If you encounter them, don’t run (and don’t feed them). Just relax, try not to startle them, and stay out of their way as much as possible.
Music: Winterlight, from the Album In This Moment, by Richard Goldsworthy
ROUTE DIRECTIONS:
Disclaimer: The directions only represent my personal experience. I accept no responsibility for any losses or injuries resulting from following these directions. Hike safe!
Get off at Ashiya-gawa station, and walk north along the west side of Ashiya river. Follow the signs for 高座の滝, and fill your water bottle at the fountain in the park on the right. At the post box take the left fork, then the road turns hard left at a nice apartment building, then follow it (don't turn right immediately) until you see the next sign at the next fork, pointing up to the right. Walk straight up the hill until you reach the little waterfall and start of the official hiking trail (and the last toilet until the top of the mountain). (Get directions to here: )
Head up the trail to the left, and then up to your right, and the steep climb up through the rock garden starts. Don’t forget to turn around sometimes to enjoy the view!
When you reach the giant power line tower at 風吹岩 (means= “wind-swept rock”), turn right up the slope, and follow the course through Ashiya Country Club Golf Course (don’t forget to close the gate so the wild boar don’t get in/out). The course climbs again steadily after that, with the occasional downhill to cross small streams (don’t worry there are stepping stones so your feet shouldn’t get wet). After a final long steady uphill, you will arrive at the 一軒茶屋, a teahouse which has been operating since the Edo-era.
Head up the final slope to the top of Mount Rokko, and enjoy the amazing views. Hopefully you have good weather! Then head back down, and turn left onto the small path at the edge of the parking lot. It’s a pleasant downhill stroll all the way to Arima Onsen.
Turn right when you reach the road, then after you pass the big nice hotel on your left, turn left down the stairs, past the Tansansengen park, and through the quaint village, all the way to the bus stop. (End hike point: ). For trains back to Kobe, Arima Onsen station is only a short walk past the main tourist intersection.

ROUTE DIRECTIONS:
Disclaimer: The directions only represent my personal experience. I accept no responsibility for any losses or injuries resulting from following these directions. Hike safe!
Get off at Oji-koen station, walk west along the wall of the park, past the zoo entrance, and turn right at the Museum of Literature. Walk straight ahead up the hill all the way to the end of the (increasingly narrow) road, then cross the bridge to your right, and you’ll reach the hike’s starting point. (Get directions to here: )
Go up the slope to the left, and the hiking trail begins. Walk up and up the concrete slope, cross a few bridges over the stream, and keep following the signs to 摩耶山頂. Warning: there are lots of steps..!
Near the top, at the last ruins, turn left and wrap around to the shrine on top of the mountain, then go straight ahead over the hill, down the slope, to the road. Turn right, and you’re at the top. Enjoy the view!
Coming down, head back down the road towards the path you arrived on, and go down the stairs to your left. Follow the path down, turn left at the junction (look for the 摩耶ケーブル下 signs), then follow the signs all the way down… It’s a little confusing at 2 intersections: at one, you have to turn right and go UP the stairs (even though it feels like the wrong way), and then a minute later, you have to go DOWN the stairs and cross the river (even though the path looks very small). Then climb the stairs when you reach a small dam, down the other side, and you’re done! (End hike point: ). It’s an easy 15 minute walk back to Oji-koen station.
Exploring Kyoto, Japan|Day 63 - Kyoto
Formerly the capital of Japan, Kyoto’s rich cultural and religious history is preserved as it was over 1,000 years ago. This beautiful, historic city and prefecture makes the top “must-see” lists in travel books and magazines every year. Over 2,000 religious sites are scattered across the city, most of them in perfect condition as Kyoto was spared from air raids during World War II. One of the most famous temples in Japan and a popular sightseeing spot is the Temple of the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji). In honor of the vegetarian lifestyle of the monks and priests working at the prefecture’s many temples and shrines, Kyoto fare has developed over the centuries to spotlight local heirloom vegetables. Kaiseki Ryori, a traditional Japanese multi-course haute cuisine, originated from this culinary tradition. In contrast to Tokyo’s fast-paced and modern vibe, Kyoto is elegant and refined. To fully enjoy it visitors should slow down, savor, ponder and stroll.
