Looking China: Manchu culture in modern China
The Manchu people used to rule over all of China during the Qing Dnasty, but where are the Manchu people in the 21st Century? After centuries of contact with Han Chinese, Manchu culture seems to be fading from memory and only a handful of people can still speak the Manchu language. Filmmaker Evan Luchkow travels to Jilin Province in northeast China to discover what contemporary Manchu culture looks like against the backdrop of a rapidly modernizing China. It turns out while Manchu culture may be fading, it is also making a surprising resurgence in unexpected places. Manchu culture remains a powerful and persistent influence on the culture and trajectory of modern China.

The addresses for these locations are listed below. Chinese/Asian food recipes are going to be included in my blog shortly.
1) Local street food Chang Fen (rice noodle roll) - These are found throughout the city and are famously eaten during breakfast time in Guangdong, or during yumcha dimsum. I went to a very cheap Chinese restaurant specializing in Changfen in Baiyun district:
Name: 潮汕辉记肠粉
Address: 广州市白云区岗贝路4号
2) The best and must try chashaobao AKA charsui bao AKA BBQ pork bun. These beauties are like upgraded baozi steam buns you find all over the streets of China. The pork juicy and covered in a sweet Barbeque sauce and the bun is so fluffy, you won't be able to get enough of them!
Name: 天天包点
Address: 广州市越秀区起义路72号
3) Famous Chinese street food Chashao BBQ pork and Shao'e roast goose. These are the best and two must try street foods in China, especially during lunch hour in Guangzhou or Hong Kong
Name: 九爷鸡
Address: 广州市越秀区文明路103号
4) Dim sum at the famous yumcha dim sum restaurant Dim Dou Dak. This is a chain restaurant that serves some of the best cantonese dim sum in the city. Be sure to order the shao mai dumplings, har gao dumplings, fengzhua chicken feet, and their specialty red rice roll. So good!
Name: 点都德
Address: 广州市越秀区越秀中路60号宝贝城4楼
5) The largest wholesale seafood market in Guangzhou. There is a huge selection of seafood here, you could spend a whole day here just watching and discovering all the different types of fresh seafood. It's not cheap unfortunately, it's quite expensive! Be ready to bargain a little bit.
Name: 盛港湾酒楼
Address: 广州市海珠区黄沙海产批发市场
If you have a whole day in Guangzhou or even Hong Kong (you can find exactly the same street foods) to travel and eat and try Chinese street food, then visit some of these amazing and best street food locations! Please leave me a comment down below if you did and let me know how the food was!

China ship harbors in Egypt in voyage to promote Belt and Road initiative
A Chinese ship harbored on Friday in the Mediterranean port of Alexandria in Egypt as a stop in its journey along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
The Qingdao China trimaran set off from Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center in late October.
And the voyage will travel through Asia, Europe and Africa.
It's aimed to help promote China's Belt and Road initiative.
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): GUO CHUAN, Captain
Through the route to the Arctic and the new Silk Road, we want to promote China's maritime culture to the world.
The Qingdao China ship is one of only five existing trimarans in the world and a widely recognized plain, highly-efficient and strong super sailing ship in the field of international sailing.
Qingdao used to be the sail setting point for the north line and an important port in ancient Maritime Silk Road.
The Chinese coastal resort now stands as a major node city in new Eurasian Continental Bridge economic corridor and hastens to become a bridgehead as China is gearing up to boost the belt and road initiative.

Guangzhou (simplified Chinese: 广州; traditional Chinese: 廣州; Cantonese pronunciation: [kʷɔ̌ːŋ.tsɐ̂u] or [kʷɔ̌ːŋ.tsɐ́u] (listen); Mandarin pronunciation: [kwàŋ.ʈʂóu] (listen)), also known as Canton, is the capital and most populous city of the province of Guangdong in southern China. On the Pearl River about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong and 145 km (90 mi) north of Macau, Guangzhou has a history of over 2,200 years and was a major terminus of the maritime Silk Road, and continues to serve as a major port and transportation hub, as well as one of China's three largest cities.Guangzhou is at the heart of the most-populous built-up metropolitan area in mainland China that extends into the neighboring cities of Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan and Shenzhen, forming one of the largest urban agglomerations on the planet. Administratively, the city holds sub-provincial status and is one of China's nine National Central Cities. In 2015, the city's administrative area was estimated to have a population of 13,501,100. Guangzhou is ranked as an Alpha global city. There is a rapidly increasing number of foreign temporary residents and immigrants from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Africa. This has led to it being dubbed the Capital of the Third World. The domestic migrant population from other provinces of China in Guangzhou was 40% of the city's total population in 2008. Together with Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, Guangzhou has one of the most expensive real estate markets in China. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, nationals of sub-Saharan Africa who had initially settled in the Middle East and other parts of Southeast Asia moved in unprecedented numbers to Guangzhou, China in response to the 1997/98 Asian financial crisis.Long the only Chinese port accessible to most foreign traders, Guangzhou fell to the British during the First Opium War. No longer enjoying a monopoly after the war, it lost trade to other ports such as Hong Kong and Shanghai, but continued to serve as a major entrepôt. In modern commerce, Guangzhou is best known for its annual Canton Fair, the oldest and largest trade fair in China. For the three consecutive years 2013–2015, Forbes ranked Guangzhou as the best commercial city on the Chinese mainland.

Li River Bamboo Boat Cruise near Yangshuo, China
The Li River is one of the most famous vistas of China. When people think of China, they think of the Great Wall, the Forbidden Palace, and bamboo boats on the Li River. It is such an iconic image, the Chinese government even put it on the reverse of the 20 kuai bill. But the modern Li is far from idyllic; it has become a terrifying spectacle of over-tourism. The bamboo boats are now made of plastic and equipped with a noisy lawn-mower engine -- and there are hundreds of them. The River itself is littered with flotsam ranging from cigarette butts to beer cans to plastic bags and shoes. Although the views are beautiful, the experience is far from it.

Container holding an incorruptible Buddhist body opens in Southeast China
A container with the body of a respectable Buddhist monk who died 3 and half years ago, has been opened at a temple in Quanzhou, Fujian Province. The body reportedly shows little signs of decomposition. The monk was 94 when he died, and was once the monastic manager of the temple. Local buddhists say they will now get his body gold-plated and place him in their temple.

Abandoned Homes Of The Rich And Famous
Abandoned Homes Of The Rich And Famous
I love exploring and photographing abandoned buildings. However, villas - castles - mansions - houses are amongst my favorite types of locations to visit. In these photos, I've tried to capture the hidden architecture of some of the most beautiful abandoned homes in Europe.
Be mesmerized by uniquely designed staircases, details in a room where you would never expect it, or the most dreamy view outside of the window. These places are old, very old. They carry so much history with them, and I feel privileged to have been able to photograph them.
Hope that you enjoyed this compilation of abandoned homes of the rich and famous

OHOP RAW (Part 7) Day 3 - Maritime Museum
On 17th November 2009, we traveled to another city, Quanzhou. Our very first tourist landmark was the Maritime Museum. It was interesting to learn how the ancient Chinese invented boats of all shapes and sizes and that they were actually more technologically advanced than the west during that era. Admiral Cheng Ho, a great explorer at that time was said to have led several huge envoys to India, Africa and the Maritime Silk Road. It is indeed a feat considering the huge perils of traveling at sea and the lack of navigational instrumentation.

The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty. It is located in the center of Beijing, China, and now houses the Palace Museum. For almost 500 years, it served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government.
Built in 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings and covers 72 ha (180 acres). The palace complex exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture, and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
Since 1925, the Forbidden City has been under the charge of the Palace Museum, whose extensive collection of artwork and artefacts were built upon the imperial collections of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Part of the museum's former collection is now located in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Both museums descend from the same institution, but were split after the Chinese Civil War.
