Short holiday in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
YOGYAKARTA | Christmas Breaks
Hutan Pinus - Candi Borobudur - Malioboro
A very short holiday in Yogyakarta
1. Hutan Pinus/Pine Forest was the first place we visited. Normally, it took about 51 minutes to Hutan Pinus from the city of Yogyakarta. But, it was school and Christmas holiday season, so it took almost 2 hours to got there because the traffic was heavy.
When we got there, there were lots of visitors.
I don't know why the weather that day was hot, despite being surrounded by shady pine trees, but I remained sweaty.
But outside of the heavy traffic, hot weather and crowded visitors, the scenery is very worthy to enjoyed and it has a lot of spots for taking selfie or maybe wefie (?)
2. Candi Borobudur/Borobudur Temple was the second place.
*Candi Borobudur is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia, and the world's largest Buddhist temple -Wikipedia-*
It took approximately 1 hour 22 minutes from the city of Yogyakarta.
Candi Borobudur was as crowded as Hutan Pinus, and the weather was very hot. The temperature reached 40 degrees Celcius.
I saw that almost all visitors rent an umbrella (and I am exactly one of them). The price for an umbrella to rent was Rp. 10.000.
Because of the extremely hot weather so I wasn't excited to exploring the temple/Candi, besides I had already visited Candi Borobudur before, but my cousins were very excited about exploring the temple because that was their first time to got to Candi Borobudur.
3. After that, we visited the famous Malioboro street just to walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere.
4. Alun-Alun Kidul was the last place.
Alun-Alun Kidul is 1,6 km from the Palace of Yogyakarta.
*Alun-alun Kidul is a southern region of Yogyakarta Palace (back yard of Yogyakarta Palace). Many activities could be seen in Alun-alun Kidul. Approaching evening, Alun-alun Kidul becomes an interesting recreation place. The backyard of the king's palace is a place full of stories. Two of the folklores most identified with the Southern city square is its establishment; the city square was built to make the back side of the palace looks a lot like the front yard so that it doesn't stand backing the Southern Sea which is believed to be guarded by the Queen of the Southern Sea, who is said to have a mystical connection with the King of Mataram. The second story is the myth of walking pass the twin banyan trees planted on the city square, with eyes blindfolded. The game is known as masangin, which stands for masuk dua beringin (entering two banyan trees)
-Justgola Asia Trip Planner-*
It's said that if we can make it (entering two banyan trees with eyes blindfolded) then our wishes would be granted.
I've tried several times but I've always failed. My cousins tried it, and they succeeded. How unfair this world is. lol
*The darker the night, the
higher the crowd. Tandem bicycles and lighted odong-odong become the favorite objects. While doing sport by riding on the bicycle or odong-odong, you can also feel another sensation while riding on it cross the crowded street -Justgola Asia Trip Planner-*
But once again, the high season made this place really crowd. It became hard to riding a bicycle because of the crowd. Beside that, the price to rent a bicycle was too expensive. It was Rp. 100.000 for just one round
But still, it remained a valuable experience for me and my family❤️

12. Various of Indonesian marines carrying a resident believed to have been electrocuted trying to turn on a generator
STORYLINE :
People forced to stay in shelters or with relatives in Indonesia's flood-hit capital started returning home on Saturday to clear away mud and debris, as authorities took advantage of receding waters.
Rivers had burst their banks in some parts of the sprawling city, much of which remains inundated following the worst floods in memory, but electricity and phone service had been restored to tens of thousands of residences and businesses in recent days.
One returning man turned on a generator as he started to clean up and was thought to have been electrocuted.
Soldiers evacuated him to a hospital, the military said.
Traffic was slowly moving on roads previously rendered inaccessible, enabling some residents to survey damage in their washed out houses for the first time.
Everyone is cleaning up their houses, one local resident, who gave her name as Mini said. The soldiers are helping us to clean up the mud.
Floods last week killed or have been cited as a factor in the deaths at least 57 people, some of whom were electrocuted.
At the peak, officials said about half of Jakarta was covered by up to four metres (12 feet) of water.
Hundreds of square kilometres (miles) of land, mostly rice fields, surrounding the city are still inundated.
Estimates of those made homeless in Jakarta topped out at more than 400-thousand out of a population of 12 (m) million.
Sanitation officials had been prevented from picking up garbage that piled up on streets in some densely packed low-income areas, mixing with the black water during overnight drizzles.
That has intensified fears about disease, with the government saying one person has contracted leptospirosis, a potentially fatal disease borne by water contaminated by rat urine.
So far no cases of tetanus or other serious waterborne disease have been reported.

Yogyakarta (also Jogja or Jogjakarta) is a city and the capital of Yogyakarta Special Region in Java, Indonesia.
The area of the city of Yogyakarta is 32.5 square kilometres (12.5 square miles). While the city spreads in all directions from the kraton (the Sultan's palace), the core of the modern city is to the north, centered around Dutch colonial-era buildings and the commercial district. Jalan Malioboro, with rows of pavement vendors and nearby market and malls, is the primary shopping street for tourists in the city, while Jalan Solo, further north, is a shopping district more frequented by locals. At the southern end of Malioboro, on the east side is the large local market of Beringharjo, not far from Fort Vredeburg, a restored Dutch fort.
At Yogyakarta's centre is the Kraton, or Sultan's palace. Surrounding the kraton is a densely populated residential neighbourhood that occupies land that was formerly the Sultan's sole domain. Evidence of this former use remains in the form of old walls and the ruined Taman Sari, built in 1758 as a pleasure garden. No longer used by the sultan, the garden has been largely abandoned. For a time, it was used for housing by palace employees and descendants. Reconstruction efforts began in 2004, and an effort to renew the neighbourhood around the kraton has begun. The site is a developing tourist attraction.

Borobudur Keraton Alun Alun Yogyakarta

Along with Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Bagan in Myanmar, Java’s Borobudur makes the rest of Southeast Asia’s spectacular sites seem almost incidental. Looming out of a patchwork of bottle-green paddies and swaying palms, this colossal Buddhist monument has survived Gunung Merapi’s eruptions, terrorist bombs and the 2006 earthquake to remain as enigmatic and as beautiful as it must have been 1200 years ago.
It’s well worth planning to spend a few days in the Borobudur region, which is a supremely beautiful landscape of impossibly green rice fields and traditional rice-growing kampung (villages), all overlooked by soaring volcanic peaks. Locals call it the garden of Java.
This region is establishing itself as Indonesia’s most important centre for Buddhism, and there are now three monasteries in the surrounding district. Visitors are welcome and you can even join the monks at prayer time for chanting.
The cultural and political heart of this fascinating city is the huge palace of the sultans of Yogya, the kraton.
Keraton Effectively a walled city, this unique compound is home to around 25,000 people, and has its own market, shops, batik and silver cottage industries, schools and mosques. Around 1000 of its residents are employed by the sultan. Alas, the treasures here are poorly displayed, so don’t expect much information to put the palace, its buildings or contents in context.
Alun-alun is a Javanese architectural term for the large central open lawn squares common to villages, towns and cities in Indonesia. Commonly, alun-alun in modern-day Indonesia refers only to the two large open squares of kraton palace compounds. Each kraton has two alun-alun: the most important and northern alun-alun lor and the less important and commonly smaller southern alun-alun kidul.
Alun-alun Kidul (Southern City Square) is the back yard of Yogyakarta Palace. Parangtritis Beach, Yogyakarta, Indonesia - Best Travel Destination
Parangtritis is a popular tourist beach and village area on the southern coast of Java in the Bantul Regency within the province of the Yogyakarta Special Region. There is a good road to the area which is about 30 km south of the city of Yogyakarta, located just on the border between Bantul and Gunung Kidul regencies.
Parangtritis is sometimes said to be a place to meet the legendary Nyai Loro Kidul (also known as Ratu Kidul) or 'Queen of the South'. Local folklore warns visitors not to wear green clothes or the Ratu Kidul is likely to try to entice the wearer into the ocean to drown. The beach is not really a good swimming beach.

About me:
My name is Eivind, I am a thirty six year old Norwegian guy living in Oslo, Norway. I am quite new to the YouTuber travel vlog sphere, but hope that you find my videos cool, and as time pass by I hope you see my content getting better and better. My goal is trying to enlighten and brighten your day by giving you interesting videos about traveling, meeting people and eating food from all different kinds of cuisines. Another thing that I want is to break down barriers of travel and prejudices of foreign countries and cultures. My opinion is that most people and cultures are friendly, but unfortunately sometimes media gives a biased view.
Usually my travels goes to places that are a bit out of the beaten track, like smaller cities or just less known cities, where I explore the neighborhoods or head into the nature. If possible, I`ll bring my drone also, but this has become more difficult in recent years due to strict regulations. I will also try to make some videos about my home country Norway, one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
On my travels I like to connect with the local people. Usually I do this via Couchsurfing, either just by meeting up with people to explore together or by actually staying at their place. I also wander aimlessly around in places talking to random people.
I do host a lot of people in my place in Oslo, maybe someday it will be you.
One of my biggest passion in life is food. And when cooking and eating together with nice people it`s the best. I make some videos together with some of my guests, these are really fun to make and I also learn to make new dishes. Maybe you can come cook with me?
Another thing I try to is enlighten people about the environment, especially the plastic problem we have all over the world. In almost every country I go to there is garbage all over. I film it and put it in some videos here and there. As a tip for you, try to pick up one piece of plastic everyday, and of course, never throw any in the first place.

9. Planes on tarmac
STORYLINE:
International rescue aid workers arrived at Al-Hoceima airport on Wednesday, a day after a powerful earthquake killed more than 550 people in northern Morocco.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have launched an appeal for 2.3 (m) million U-S dollars to pay for tents, blankets, mattresses, heaters and food.
Aid has already begun to pour in from around Europe.
France, Morocco''''''''s former colonial ruler, sent a plane with about 15 rescuers and their search dogs while Portugal sent a 29-member rescue team and six sniffer dogs.
Belgium sent tents, water purification kits, generators, medicine and other emergency supplies, as well as 20 personnel and Italy shipped dogs and firefighters.
The Finnish Red Cross sent clothing for 30,000 people, two large supply tents and a logistics officer.
The Red Cross was also sending in a seven-member assessment team.
The 6.5-magnitude quake shook areas near the coastal city of Al Hoceima, between the Rif Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.
The city was largely spared, but surrounding villages such as Imzouren were devastated.
Some 564 people were killed and some 300 were injured, the official MAP news agency reported.
But the death toll was expected to rise as rescuers make their way to hard-to-reach rural areas on Wednesday, the international Red Cross in Geneva said.
King Mohammed VI planned a visit to the quake zone, which is home to Morocco''''''''s Berber minority and one of the most underdeveloped areas of the Mediterranean basin.
Berbers, who have their own language, are considered the original inhabitants of North Africa.
Morocco''''''''s deadliest earthquake was in 1960, when 12,000 people were killed after a devastating quake destroyed the southern city of Agadir.
