5 Awesome Beijing Day Trips
There's a lot to do in Beijing, but the traffic and the smog can be overwhelming. Never fear, as there are plenty of things to do nearby. Check out five awesome BJ day trips in this short video: the Fragrant Hills, Botanical Gardens, Ba Da Chu, Red Snail Temple, and Shi Du.
Beijing tour 2012 - Chinese tea drinking ceremony (narrated in Tagalog)
Video clip taken during my trip to Beijing, China, on May 2012. As part of our packaged tour itinerary, we had this Chinese Tea Drinking Ceremony experience at Dr. Tea, somewhere in Beijing. It was such a nice place with lots of tea you can shop for after, and during the session, you will be able to learn about and taste different types of refreshing, authentic, freshly brewed tea. :)
2016 China Trip Day 13 in Forbidden City of Beijing, China
Tiananmen Square is a large city square in the centre of Beijing, China, named after the Tiananmen (Gate of Heavenly Peace) located to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. The square contains the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China in the square on October 1, 1949; the anniversary of this event is still observed there. Tiananmen Square is within the top ten largest city squares in the world. It has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history.
The Tiananmen (Chinese: 天安门; literally: Gate of Heavenly Peace) is a famous monument in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. It is widely used as a national symbol. First built during the Ming dynasty in 1420, Tiananmen is often referred to as the front entrance to the Forbidden City. However, the Meridian Gate (午门) is the first entrance to the Forbidden City proper, while Tiananmen was the entrance to the Imperial City, within which the Forbidden City was located. Tiananmen is located to the north of Tiananmen Square, separated from the plaza by Chang'an Avenue.
The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty—the years 1420 to 1912. It is located in the centre of Beijing, China, and now houses the Palace Museum. It served as the home of emperors and their households as well as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government for almost 500 years.

3 Days in Beijing, China - The Great Wall, Yonghe (Lama) Temple, Forbidden City
We had an amazing time during our time in Beijing and this video highlights just a few minutes of that. Most of our transportation (aside from our one tour) was via the metro, super cheap and easy to navigate with their app. We could get anywhere we needed to go, including to and from the airport. Some more details about the trips and these three sites below:
The Great Wall - We took a tour off of Trip Advisor. Overall, it was enjoyable, but we ended up taking off when we got back into the city (after the tea house demonstration) and took the metro back towards our hotel. Would recommend a tour if you're not good with navigating or being on your own, but if/when we go back, we'd rather we find a shuttle/cab to The Great Wall and spend more time walking the wall than the time spent at the Jade Museum and other tourist attractions that they take you to.
The rest of our time in China we were on our own and did many self tours. The audio tours that were available were definitely worth it and allowed us to learn about these places at our own pace.
Yonghe (Lama) Temple - The Lama Temple was such a cool place to visit. We did the self-tour and enjoyed a couple hours exploring this place. With so much history and buildings to walk into, it was definitely worth it. Getting there on the metro was super easy.
Forbidden City & Tiananmen Square - Lucky for us, it rained the first night we arrived in Beijing. That left us clear skies for our whole time there. Our actual plan was to visit on day two, but we didn't do the research and showed up only to find it closed (it is closed every Monday). We came back the next morning, early to avoid the crowds, and loved it! As you can see, it was crowded, but not as crowded as it can get. We'd recommend going early to avoid as many of the crowds/tour groups that show up late morning and into the afternoon. Also, if you step out of the square, away from the Great Halls, you'll find many halls and palaces to yourself or only a few others.

Zhujiajiao - Ancient Water Town | Shanghai Vlog | Day Trip in China | Tourist
Zhujiajiao (朱家角) is an ancient water town located in the district of Qingpu in Shanghai.
The town consists of bridges and ancient buildings lining the riverbanks and is also known for its green soy beans, so you'll find a lot of Chinese desserts and sticky rice foods.
Getting there: Zhujiajiao is within walking distance from the Zhujiajiao Station (Line 17) which can be reached by transferring from the Hongqiao Railway Station (Line 10) on the Shanghai Metro.
The best time to visit is during April and May because it is out in the open and would be way too hot during the summer (unless that's what you're into). During the rainy season you will most likely be dodging umbrella's to the eye.

The Hall of Prayer for Good harvests is where the emperor prayed for a good farming season. This wooden building is over 120 ft high. It's supported by 28 pillars, which represent the constellations, the 4 seasons and 12 months of the year.
The Summer Place was the private retreat of emperors and empresses for centuries. It has a large manmade lake, temples and gardens.
