Czech Wine - Yeah, That's a Thing!
Before we started researching the wine regions in the Czech Republic, I don’t think I had ever tasted Czech wine before. I’ve had Turkish and Hungarian wines, but never Czech wines.
This is surprising because Czech wine has a long history, dating from the Roman times. But, much of the wine production ceased during Communism. It’s only been the last two decades that the wine industry has had a bit of a renaissance. For all of these reasons, this wine research product seemed intriguing.
Wine is grown in both Bohemia (where Prague is located) and Moravia (where Brno is located). We were out to explore Moravia, basing ourselves in both Brno and Mikulov. Although Czech beer is common in Bohemia, and part of the daily ritual, in Moravia, it’s all about wine. It’s more common to drink wine, even though it is more expensive than Czech beer. It’s just part of the culture of Moravia.
It’s easy to drink Czech wine anywhere in Moravia, including Mikulov and Brno, as restaurant menus offer great selections of local wine. There are also many vinoteka, or wine bars, sprinkled around the region. And, there is the National Wine Centre in Valtice.
In Mikulov, we visited the Vinoteka Volarik, which has a roof top patio with a view over the Holy Hill of Mikulov. A perfect place to walk through some of the Moravian wines. Try one of their bottles of sparkling wine made in the traditional method. I was truly surprised with the quality.

Manila Wine Lovers attend Czech wine tasting by Yats Wine Cellars
Yats Wine Cellars is lauded by wine lovers of Philippines for regularly bringing wines from major wine regions around the world that Asian wine drinkers are not usually familiar with. In July 2011, Yats Wine Cellars and the Czech ambassador to the Philippines, Josef Rychtar held the first wine tasting featuring exclusively wines from The Czech Republic.
Ludwig Winery, one of the largest wine producers and exporters in Czech Republic, flew into town with the wines for this occasion. Visiting celebrity chef from Czech Republic prepared special food accompaniments for the wine tasting which was held at the new residence of the ambassador.
Event like this Czech wine tasting helps wine enthusiasts of the Philippines expand their palates. This also makes Yats Wine Cellars well known among wine lovers in Manila and Pampanga as the wine supplier that frequently organizes wine tasting, wine dinners and other wine events that are not only a pleasant and enjoyable experience but surprisingly educational also.
YATS WINE CELLARS has been serving Asia's wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs since 1985. Today its cellars in Philippines' Clark Freeport stock over 2700 labels of wines from all major wine regions and the biggest spectrum of vintages imaginable spanning over 100 years. Wines were purchased in opportune situations allowing us to offer superb values to our customers and wine collectors.
Public wine tastings are held from time to time in Clark and sometimes in Manila. Tickets range from p500 to p1500 for these themed events that are professionally run --no wine merchants sponsorship, pushy salesmen or tacky banners to ruin the evening. Each ticket contains a certain number of stubs that can be redeemed for a tasting pour of a wine among those on a line-up which often contains wines that are quite old and expensive. This makes YATS Wine Tasting events the most cost-effective venue to explore new options and expand our knowledge of wine through first-hand encounters.
Wine Seminars have been conducted in the past and may be offered from time to time. These seminars deal with intermediate to advanced subject matters that are aimed at providing useful and practical knowledge for the wine enthusiasts. Topics are focused and treatment, in depth. Most seminars include a guided tasting session after the lecture.
Wine-paired dinners are organized either at Y A T S Restaurant in Clark or in collaboration with other restaurants and organizers. Private wine dinners can also be organized for groups of 14 or more. Even Asian cuisines can be a part of a Yats Wine-paired dinner.
Sister company Y A T S Restaurant and Wine Lounge is one of most wine-sensitive fine-dining establishments in Asia. B Y O (Bring Your Own) Wine evenings occur regularly for wine enthusiasts to enjoy their recent finds over a gourmet meal specially crafted to be wine friendly. The wine list of YATS Restaurant is equally impressive and satisfying to the hard-to-please. Mark-up is small and that makes it the friendliest wine restaurant in Asia.

Great Wine from a Small country
If you set off to the wine-producing regions of the Czech Republic, if you visit an important vineyard track, breathe the fresh air, pass through the picturesque landscape and become acquainted with the vine stocks and the people who so lovingly tend them, then you will remember this experience whenever you taste Czech and Moravian wine, whenever in the world you may be drinking it.
