Dog Sledding at Hills Health Ranch - 100 Mile House, BC
Last winter, I went dog sledding at the Hills Health Ranch in 100 Mile House, BC. It's surprising just how much you have to put your body into it leaning to the left and right. Here's a taste of the 30 minute introduction tour. If you book half or full day tours, you get to drive the dog sled yourself!

Earthship build in BC Canada 2 of 2
In August of 2010 Michael Reynolds and the Earthship crew came to British Columbia to build their first Earthship in Canada. This particular Earthship was built just outside of 100 Mile House.
The video highlights some of the later stages of the project as we completed the greenhouse frame, interior walls, and the roof.
Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race
By Yowan Gurung (THB Mirik Correspondent)
MIRIK, 28 OCTOBER 2017: International Himalayan Run and Trek Competition is being organised from 29th of October 2017 to 3rd of November 2017. During the competition the competitors will have to cover a distance of 100 miles. The race will be flagged off from Maneybhanjyang on the 29th of October 2017. Speaking during a press meet, Race Director C. S. Pandey said that competitors from Germany, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Australia, United States, Argentina, Singapore, Sweden, Austria, Spain and Canada among other nations.
Pandey said that this here there are 32 female and 31 male competitors. Among the female competitors Julia Blanko Alimnana is the youngest being 16 years of age. Sheila Amerod is the eldest among the female competitors being 69 years of age. Among the male competitors Bret Douglas Baker is the youngest being 15 years of age while Rex Whittal is the eldest being 77 years of age. All the above four competitors are from the United Kingdom.
Pandey said that the International Himalayan Run and Trek Competition was started in 1991. The main objective of this Competition was to promote adventure sports in the Darjeeling Hills area and to preserve the ecological and environmental bounty of the Himalayan Region. As well as making the Darjeeling hills as an epi-centre of adventure sports in the world.
He said that since there was much pollution in the hills, the competitors will also undertake cleaning efforts during the race. This is simply to promote the idea that the preservation of environment is one of the most important thing that we need to undertake.

Hiking 120 Miles Alone on the Tour Du Mont Blanc Loop
Map and Guide -
The Tour du Mont Blanc is a 120 mile loop that circles the Mont Blanc Mastiff and passes through Swiss, French and Italian Alps. Each country’s section has its own personality. The trail is well-maintained and dotted with colorful “TMB” markers. You’ll find plenty of other people on this trail, all hiking for different reasons. It’s usually impossible to tell how long someone has been hiking because the trail is a loop with technically no starting or ending point. You’ll find thru-hikers with large packs doing the entire loop, day hikers, gondola tourists, trail runners, mountain bikers, families with dogs and locals taking their morning stroll. You pass tiny villages hidden in the mountains and large bustling cities filled with tourists. The trail is dotted with Refugios and campsites where you can eat, drink and sleep.

28 STRANGE Sights on Google Earth
Every year we come across bizarre and strange sightings that have been picked up by the Google camera, and today we have a look at some of the stranger sights spotted by their satellites.

13 - Refreshes like nothing on earth…
This giant Coca-Cola sign is visible from the air and was captured by Google earth in Chile. Sometimes referred to as maptervising, this giant logo was put in place to celebrate their 100th Anniversary. Whether this was the first time maptervising was used, I’m not sure – but we know of several companies who use giant adverts to advertise their products. The unique fact about this one though, is the sign is made from 70,000 empty Coke bottles.
12 - Free Hand…
It looks like an intriguing piece of artwork, but it’s actually an aerial shot taken by Google Earth cameras. This one is located in the middle of the desert in China. Of course, speculations ran high as to what it could possible be. Some suggested underground testing facilities, while others thought it could be military runways. The truth wasn’t quite as exciting, but not bad anyway… they are roads used for test drills.
11 - Connect the dots…
These are oil fields with connecting roads located in Rio Negro in Argentina. This is a spectacular image which we can thank Google Earth for!
10 - The dark knight rises…
Over in Okinawa in Japan they have a very special sight that can only be viewed from above. It’s the Batman symbol, and you’ll have to fly over the roof top of the Air Force’s 44th Fighter Squadron. It’s not new though, and has been around since the 80’s… it’s only come to light recently thanks to Google Earth.
9 - Look closely…
You’ll have to stretch your imagination for this one. A guy in Sweden truly believes that this obscure image from Google Earth is the real-life Nessie.
8 - Crawl back into your shell…
You’ve probably heard of the massive Japanese Spider Crab, they’re literally enormous but they’re nowhere near the size of this crab that was spotted on Google earth. It’s earned the nickname Crabzilla, and is roughly 50-feet wise. It was spotted in Kent Harbour in the UK. Legit or not, I’ll let you decide.
7 - Stranger Things…
The second season of Stranger Things sees an underground complex network of roots emerge. When I see this image that was captured by Google Earth, I think of that – and it leaves me feeling a little unsettled.
6 - All ears…
We head to Alberta in Canada and meet the Badlands Guardian. This geological marvel looks like a man with a headdress wearing an earphone. It’s obviously not that, but rather a road and an oil well that have been installed on the site. If you go and view this image on Google Earth, and you scroll further to the left, you’ll spot another face which looks like someone is yawning and waking up from a deep sleep.
5 - Shrouded in mystery…
Could this possibly be the remains of a pyramid that has not been excavated yet? Google Earth captured this image somewhere across Egypt, and reports suggest that due to the current economic situation in Egypt, they’ve limited the number of sites being excavated and researched. Others who have spotted this image believe it to just be a natural part of the landscape. I’m leaning towards pyramid, how about you?
4 - Blast from the past…
In more ways than one! This is the world’s best-preserved meteorite on earth and it’s located a few minutes from Interstate 40 and Route 66. It's’ said an asteroid hit earth at 26,000 miles per hour 50,000 years ago and those are the remains! The crater is roughly 1 mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and 550ft deep. You’re welcome to go and visit the site yourself! Its open to tourists!
3 - Hypnotising…
These fields captured by Google Earth are seriously hypnotising, and remind me of a patchwork quilt.
2 - You decide…
Sand banks? Aliens? Wake of water? Deep sea creature? No one seems to have legitimate answers, so if you can shed some light on that bizarre image captured on Google Earth, please share it with us down below!
Sri Chinmoy Triathlon / Duathlon 1999 (Elk Lake, Victoria, BC, Canada - August,1 1999))
About the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team
The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team puts on events for the sporting community in over 20 countries around the world. It is the world's biggest organiser of long-distance ultra running events, and also organises endurance events in other disciplines, such as triathlons and lake swims.
The SCMT organises races of all distances from two miles upwards, but it has become most well known for its pioneering work in organising ultrarunning races (races of longer than marathon distance). Many of the races organised by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team have now become established favourites in the countries they are held in. The 24-hour races organised in New Zealand, Switzerland and Great Britain are also the national events for those countries, and the Six-and Ten-Day races held in New York every year are extremely popular races in the USA ultrarunning calendar. In Australia, the SCMT offers an unparalleled range of multi-discipline events, including the famous Triple-Tri , a triathlon performed three times over in the scenic outskirts of Canberra. However, the jewel in the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team's crown is the 3100 Mile Self-Transcendence race, the longest certified road race in the world, which is run each year in New York between June and August.
The SCMT's love of hosting endurance events is a reflection of the core philosophy behind the team's activities. The races are organised on the principles of self-transcendence, where each runner competes against himself and his own previous capacities rather than against his fellow runners. Endurance races allow each competitor to go deep within and truly find the best within themselves in order to persevere and finish, and even though there are trophies for the leading finishers, in truth every runner who completes such long distances is a winner. Over the years, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team has gained a reputation for the level of care and support they provide to the competitors in their raises, raising the bar for the level of care in ultra races in general.
Many SCMT members have performed remarkable feats in different disciplines over the years, showing that indeed anything is impossible if one just has faith in oneself. Perhaps the most well-known Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team member is Ashrita Furman, who currently holds over 70 Guinness world records in many disciplines, including the fastest five miles run on stilts (a record which had previously stood for over 100 years) and the fastest mile crawling. Every year in Munich, Germany, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team hosts the Impossibility Challenger event in which specialists in unusual disciplines from all around the world arrive to try and achieve world records in their respective fields. Suprabha Beckjord from Washington DC holds the distinction of being the only person to finish the 3100 Mile Race every year it has been run. Karteek Clark from Scotland has swum the Channel eight times now; the forty-odd successful attempts by SCMT members at crossing the Channel makes it the team with the most Channel crossings by a long margin. The founder of the Marathon Team, Indian-born athlete Sri Chinmoy , was himself a prolific marathoner and ultramarathoner in the seventies and eighties, and was setting records in the field of weightlifting right up to his passing away in October 2007 at the age of 76.

Police officer SHOT during gunfight with suspect
Footage from a police helicopter shows a shootout between Texas State Troopers and a suspect in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday, February 18.
The footage released by the Texas Department of Public Safety shows a trooper being shot in the arm by Ernest Manuel Montelongo, who resisted arrest and fled after being stopped for a traffic violation. Montelongo was then fatally shot by another Trooper.
The Texas State Troopers Association said that the suspect “emerged from his vehicle, produced a gun and forced the trooper to exchange gunfire with him.”
Local media reported that authorities said Montelongo was brought to Brooke Army Medical Centre and was pronounced dead a day later. A spokesman for the DPS said the Trooper was “doing well.”
