[RARE] The Voice of Hirohito - 1945 Jewel Voice Broadcast (玉音放送)

This is a 1945 recording of the 'Jewel Voice Broadcast'. The 'Jewel Voice Broadcast' (玉音放送) was the radio broadcast in which Japanese Emperor Hirohito read out the 'Imperial Rescript on the Termination of the Greater East Asia War' (大東亜戦争終結ノ詔書), announcing to the Japanese people that the Japanese Government had accepted the Potsdam Declaration demanding the unconditional surrender of the Japanese military at the end of World War II. This speech was broadcast at noon Japan Standard Time on August 15, 1945.
The speech was the first time that an Emperor of Japan had spoken to the common people. It was delivered in the formal Japanese that few ordinary people could easily understand. It made no direct reference to a surrender of Japan, instead stating that the government had been instructed to accept the terms of the Potsdam Declaration fully. This created confusion in the minds of many listeners who were not sure whether Japan had surrendered. The poor audio quality of the radio broadcast, as well as the formal courtly language in which the speech was composed, worsened the confusion.
Nevertheless, it is an important and fascinating piece of history, one which marks the end of an era of suffering for humankind.
When a Bf-109 spared a stricken B-17
Christmas 1943, a badly shot up B-17 struggled to stay in the air, it was the first mission for the 21-year-old pilot, half his crew lay wounded. Then the dark shadow of the feared Bf-109 pulled along side the bomber. Worse, at it’s controls was a German fighter ace looking for his next target. What happened next would later be called one of the most incredible acts of kindness between enemies. Please share or embed this story to help spread this amazing WW2 story. I say in this video that the bombers flying from Tinian would almost fly over Imabare. Just a few days ago, I found a map that I was unaware of at the time I made this video. It shows the proported flight of the Enola Gay. The route is shown as actually flying from Tinian to Iwo Jima first, then to Hiroshima. This would be a route that looks closer to Imabare. I'll have to check some more on that.

Out of all the places I've been so far in Japan, Hiroshima stands as my favorite. This was my most favorite/memorable trip thus far in Japan! We stayed in Hiroshima for two days. This video begins my Hiroshima adventure! Hiroshima was an amazing, eye opening, and unforgettable experience. I hope everyone who goes to Japan takes the time to visit Hiroshima.

In November 2015 the Crossway Foundation and Art Jameel invited 8 competition winners from Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates to Japan to collaborate with local arts and social organisations in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Naoshima.
After their time in Kyoto the team travelled to Hiroshima, a city that was largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II. There they worked with internationally renowned artist Masao Okabe tracing trees that had been affected by the atomic bomb using the technique of 'frottage'.
The group was subsequently given the task of putting up a temporary exhibition at Gallery G in Hiroshima with the works made during the workshop.
B-29 Enola Gay (Hiroshima Attack)
