It has been a predominantly rugby league ground as the home ground of the North Queensland Cowboys National Rugby League club. Since inception as a rugby league ground, the ground has had sponsored naming rights: Stockland Stadium (1995–97), Malanda Stadium (1998) and Dairy Farmers Stadium (1999–2013).
Not ideal conditions with wind gusting to 40km+ and hazy background but the Phantom 4 handled it well. Need to go back when not so windy. Logos used without permission from NRL or NQ Cowboys.

The Stadium and Entertainment Centre is a key project within the broader community aspiration for the development of a vibrant Southbank precinct on the banks of Ross Creek in the inner city. The Precinct will be supported by a new pathways and walkways network that links Southbank to other key precincts, including Reid Park, Flinders Street West and The Strand.
The combined redevelopment will create thousands of jobs during construction and provide a massive economic uplift through new investment to Townsville and the greater region.
To secure the Centre community leaders are seeking a $210M commitment from the State Government, which is a two-thirds contribution to the $315M total cost of the Stadium and Entertainment Centre. The current Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre and 1300 Smiles Stadium, are ageing facilities and not up to the standard for users. They were assessed as reaching the end of their economically viable lives as early as 2020.
Townsville Enterprise together with the Townsville City Council, the Townsville Chamber of Commerce and all regional councils are leading the charge for the funding to create the Stadium and Entertainment Centre. It is key part of a $450M Regional Jobs Package that has the potential to boost our economy and create the jobs we need now.

North Queensland Stadium: Local from the ground up
This video is the second in a series that step behind the scenes of the design and construction of the North Queensland Stadium in Townsville.
The video introduces some of the many local people working on the stadium for North Queensland that is being built by North Queenslanders.
The North Queensland Stadium is a joint project of the Australian Government, the Queensland Government and Townsville City Council and is supported by the National Rugby League and the North Queensland Cowboys. It forms part of the Townsville City Deal signed in December 2016.
