Delaware Brewery Road Trip 2 - 16 Mile Brewing Company
After visiting Dogfish Head, we headed to 16 Mile Brewing Company in Georgetown, Delaware. We were excited to visit and highlight this brewery because they were the first brewery to ever send us beer for review. It was great to finally meet the men behind the beer. It was a casual, relaxed atmosphere and it was fun being in a smaller brewery where we could be a little more hands on. Make sure and check out their beers next time you are in the state of Delaware.

Transcript: After visiting the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, we headed 12 miles southwest to the 16 Mile Brewing Company in Georgetown, Delaware. This 15 barrel brewery seemed very small after our last stop. When we walked in, owner Chad Campbell was raking out the mash tun.
There was a folksy vibe that permeated the brewery. You could count the staff on one hand. Everyone was very friendly. 16 Mile opened in 2009 and is currently focused on being THE local brewery. Claus Hagelman, their sales and marketing director gave us a great tour of the facility. We saw their grain mill, where they use mostly English barley.
We also saw some of the their new packaging. They've decided to use traditional 12 oz brown bottles for their 6-packs instead of the 16 oz aluminum bottles that they started with.
We then headed over to heart of the brewery where Mark Smith had the opportunity to rake spent barley out of the lauter tun while Chef gave him some encouragement.
They currently have a nice collection of 15 and 30 barrel fermenters And, they have recently added a new addition where they will be adding more fermenters and have a much larger cooler for storing beer.
After the tour, we interviewed co-owner Chad Campbell to learn more about 16 Mile.
Chad Campbell SOT
Make sure you watch the entire interview when it is posted.
We also had a chance to sample the entire 16 Mile line-up in their brand new taproom. Claus gave us samples and descriptions for each of their six beers. In general, they were lower ABV, session ales. My favorites were two of their newer offerings -- the Inlet IPA and their Harvest Ale. If you ever get a chance I recommend that you try them.
Even though I could have spent the rest of the day at the taproom enjoying the ambience and hospitality, we had to leave after another pint. We still had work to do. That night we had to hit the Dogfish Head Brewpub and the next day we had two more brewery tours -- Evolution Craft Brewery and Fordham and Old Dominion. Holiday Visit To 16 Mile Brewing Company In Georgetown, DE
In this episode of Coastal Cuisine, host Michael Sprouse visits 16 Mile Brewing Company at 413 S Bedford St. in Georgetown, Delaware, for a seasonal inside look at what’s “on tap” for the beer lover on your holiday shopping list. He joins 16 Mile’s Marketing and Events Manager Angelia Idler to discuss what makes 16 Mile Brewing Company such a unique and popular stop for both locals and travelers alike.
Here’s an interesting 16 Mile Fun Fact: The significance behind the name ‘16 Mile’ dates back to the late 1700’s when Georgetown was still known as Pettijohn’s Old Field. It was a rather isolated town, yet it was centrally located in Sussex County and “16 miles from anywhere” in the county. It became the best place for farmers, merchants, and politicians to meet and conduct business, and legislators eventually moved the County Seat from Lewes to Georgetown to better accommodate the county residents.

Event Night At 16 Mile Brewery In Georgetown, DE
In this episode of the A&E Report, host Michael Sprouse visits the 16 Mile Brewing Company located at 413 S. Bedford Street in Georgetown, Delaware. He joins 16 Mile’s Marketing and Events Director Angelina Idler for an inside look at one of the many monthly events she organizes at the popular brewery. This event featured in this report was called the Ladies Sip & Sample.
Organized by Idler, the focus of the event served many purposes. Not only did it help familiarize 16 Mile’s products with a section of the population that tends to shy away from breweries and on-site beer related events, it provided a networking opportunity for women owned and operated, small independent businesses as well as a shopping opportunity for anyone looking to purchase a unique and locally focused artisan crafted and inspired gift for the holiday shopping season.

16 Mile Old Court Ale - Beer Review
BBA T-SHIRTS ARE FOR SALE:
The Better Beer Authority heads to Georgetown, Delaware (figuratively speaking) and tastes Old Court Ale from the 16 Mile Brewery. They have only been in business since July of 2009 so this is still a hard beer to come by outside of the state of Delaware and Coastal Maryland. Find out if it's good enough to trade for on beeradvocate.com.
Rough Transcript:
James: On tap -- Old Court Ale.
Hi. My name is James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. Today we are talking about Old Court Ale from the 16 Mile Brewing Company in Georgetown, Delaware. This new brewery was started in July of 2009 and currently brews three different ales. You can find their beers in Delaware and parts of Maryland, so pick up a few on your way to Dewey Beach or Ocean City.
The brewery describes Old Court as an American-style ale that reserves the right to be different. They focus on the beer's lighter body, citrusy hop aroma and caramel finish.
It is 6% ABV and scores 28 IBUs.
Where does the name 16 Mile Brewery come from? It's because Georgetown, Delaware is 16 miles from anywhere -- in Sussex County that is.
Scott, give us the big picture on this beer. Give the people at home a little description of it.
Scott Blickhan: It's a carmelly flavor and a nutty smell. When you drink it it's interesting. It actually leaves your mouth a little drier then when you had the first taste and kind of leaves you wanting for a little bit more.
James: Mark, do you agree with his assessment of the flavor?
Mark Smith: Altogether I think he made a pretty accurate assessment of the beer. I completely agree with him about leaving your mouth a little dry, always wanting to go back for more. To me it leaves a pretty good drinkability factor. I mean I wouldn't put it up there with Bud Light drinkability so to speak, but for me, I would definitely go back and have another.
James: You see this as a session beer?
Mark: Definitely a session beer. It's not very filling. The carbonation doesn't leave you with that really full feeling in your belly. Definitely something where you could sit and have 4 or 5 and not feel too bad about it.
James: Chef. What's sticking out to you here in this beer?
Adam Harms: I think as I drink it a little bit more it's that fruitiness. You can smell the fruit aspect to it and then you get that citrus toward the back of your throat I get that citrus to it along with the carmel and the hoppiness. I think this is again a really drinkable beer. I think you could sit around. You would probably get wasted because of the 6 percent ABV.
James: It kind of sneaks up on you a little bit.
Adam: Yeah, you could sit around and drink quite a few of these. It does leave a flavor in your mouth that you want to drink some more.
James: Scott, what would you drink this beer with? What kind of food do you see this with?
Scott: I mentioned earlier maybe steak. Maybe pasta. Something that has some more moisture to it because this kind of takes away a little bit. You could probably have it with anything. I really like it. It's a good beer and I would probably drink it any day of the week if it was available. I think it's got a high drinkability. I'd give it a 7.
James: And Mark, what kind of situation do you see yourself drinking this in? When's a good time of year or a good event to drink this at?
Mark: I think with the taste of the beer that it almost comes off as a Fall beer. It doesn't really have the spicy notes that most fall beers would have, but the maple flavor in it really reminds me of a cooler part of the year. I wouldn't go so much in the summer because I'm not picking up some of the citrusy, smoothiness that some of the summer ales have. And even though the beer is called an ale it feels a little deeper like an amber bock beer.
Scott: Yeah it has a lot of malts to it. You can kind of taste the malt.
James: Alright. Give us your arbitrary numerical rating.
Mark: On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 6.
James: Alright. 6 on the BBA scale. Adam, final thoughts?
Adam: I like this beer. I think it's a good beer. I would drink it if it's available around here in the area...
James: Let's say your in Delaware, are you doing 16 Mile or Dogfish Head?
Adam: Oh I'm doing 16 Mile. I really like this beer.
James: Ok. What's your rating?
Adam: 7
James: Old Court Ale reels a (???) off of Rehoboth Bay. I'd like to thank 16 Mile Brewery for sending us this beer and encourage everyone to try it. If you don't live in Delaware or Maryland, then find someone on beeradvocate.com from Delaware and propose a trade with one of your local favorites. Thanks for watching. 16 Mile Blue's Golden Ale - Beer Review
BBA T-SHIRTS ARE FOR SALE:
The Better Beer Authority reviews a new and hard-to-find beer from 16 Mile Brewery, Blue's Golden Ale. This golden ale is the lightest of the three beers available from the brewery. Some might consider it's mild flavor to be a good gateway for those new to craft beer. We also dive a little deeper into their highly-touted, fancy metal bottle.
Partial Transcript: On Tap -- Blue's Golden Ale.
Hi. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. Today we are talking about Blue's Golden Ale - one of three beers available from the 16 Mile Brewing Company. which bills itself as the smallest microbrewery in the state of Delaware.
The first thing you notice about this beer is the distinctive 22oz. aluminum can that it comes in. The company likes to point out that they've chosen this packaging for environmental reasons. The cans are 100% recyclable. They are thin and lightweight which helps cut down on transportation costs and pollution.
Blues Golden Ale is 6% ABV and has 14 IBUs. It is so new and unique that it only has one review on ratebeer.com and no reviews on beeradvocate.
The company describes the beer as a mellow, yet refreshing, golden ale with balanced layers of flavor and a crisp and clean finish.
Fun fact: Delaware is nicknamed The First State because it was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution. And... The official state beverage is milk -- something I think that 16 Mile should work on changing.
Q&A the outer layers of the bottle provide excellent insulation allowing the beer to chill faster
Blue's Golden Ale scores a (???) on the BBA scale. I'd like to thank 16 Mile Brewery for providing this beer. That's our opinion, but you should try it for yourself. So, if you get a chance, Take Route 50 across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to 404 East into Georgetown, Delaware. Tell Brett that Jimmy sent you. He'll probably say Jimmy who?
I'm Jimmy Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority!
Rehoboth Beach Delaware summer at the Atlantic Ocean USA
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, USA
Rehoboth Beach is a city along the Atlantic Ocean in eastern Sussex County, Delaware.
The town of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware often bills itself as The Nation's Summer Capital due to the fact that it is a frequent summer vacation destination for Washington, D.C., residents (121.78 miles / 2 hrs 46 mins from The White House)
Vacationers are drawn for many reasons, including the town's charm, tax free shopping and famous for its beaches, wooden boardwalk, eclectic shops, amusements, and sporting activities
Rehoboth Beach is one of the principal cities of Delaware's rapidly growing Cape Region.
In 2011, the NRDC Natural Resources Defense Council awarded Rehoboth Beach with a 5-Star rating in water quality.
Out of the 30 states with coastline, the Delaware Beaches ranked number one in water quality in 2011.
Rehoboth Beach is also known as one of the mid-Atlantic coast's popular LGBT Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender - gay-friendly getaways because of the large number of gay-owned and operated businesses and because of the gay-frequented stretch of beach near Queen Street, known as Poodle Beach.
Dogfish Head Brewery's original brewpub is located on the town's main strip Rehoboth Avenue.
Rehoboth (Hebrew: רְחוֹבוֹת) means broad spaces. It appears three times in the Old Testament as a place name: a well dug by Isaac (at modern Wadi er-Ruheibeh) (Gen. 26:22), a city on the Euphrates River (Gen. 36:37; 1 Chr. 1:48), and one of the cities of Asshur (Gen. 10:11). Hence the name may have had a special appeal for the religious founders of the city, although the adjacent bay had already borne the name Rehoboth for at least a century before the town was founded.
In September CAMP Rehoboth Community Center / Letters from CAMP magazine hosts an annual Labor Day weekend event called SUNDANCE with an fundraiser auction and dance party at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, gay and lesbian community service organization, originally developed to “Create A More Positive” relationship among all the people of the Rehoboth Beach area.
Each October Rehoboth Beach hosts the Annual Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers Festival ( Happy Halloween - The Blessed Samhain Festival - Autumn Holidays Celebration) with a parade, Trick or Treat, and the very popular broom tossing event right at the beach.
There is a summer bus service that makes it easy for beach goes to travel easily between Rehoboth Beach Delaware and Ocean City Maryland.
There is a ferry from Cape May New Jersey that makes it easy to travel to Rehoboth Beach Delaware,

The Pickled Pig Pub to Host First State Brewers and Their Products

Rehoboth Beach, DE -- It may be small in size, but Delaware hosts a big number of craft breweries. Delaware currently ranks 15th out of the 50 continental states for number of breweries per capita. The First State is responsible for some of the mid-atlantic area's finest examples.
Starting Monday, April 9th, The Pickled Pig Pub in Rehoboth Beach will be hosting their second annual Delaware Beer Week. All fourteen tap handles will be dedicated to beer made locally. Every day will feature several styles from the featured brewery as well as a meet and greet with the brewer from 4 -- 6 p.m. They are coming to do what they do best -- talk great beer and share their passion with people who enjoy drinking great beer.

During Delaware Beer Week, no cross country driving is required to try all that the First State has to offer.
The Pickled Pig Pub opened three years ago and is dedicated to bringing a wide variety of beers to the beach area. Smaller, sample sizes are offered to encourage trying different styles. The Pub is open seven days a week at 11:30 a.m. Lunch & dinner served daily.

Capital Beer: A Heady History of Brewing in Washington, D.C.
Washington Brewery–the city’s first brewery–opened in 1796. Brewer barons like Christian Heurich and Albert Carry dominated the taps of city saloons until production ground to a halt with Prohibition. Only Heurich survived, and when the venerable institution closed in 1956, Washington, DC, was without a brewery for 55 years. Author and beer scholar Garrett Peck taps this history while introducing readers to the bold new brewers leading the capital’s recent craft beer revival. A book signing will follow the program.

Join Washington Post reporter Libby Casey and others for live coverage of the celebration. The Nationals are the first team in major league history to win the World Series by claiming four games on the road. While the final game was held in Houston, fans gathered across the city and at the stadium in Navy Yard to watch. They wore shark hats in honor of the team’s unofficial anthem, the children’s song “Baby Shark.” Watch the moment the ballpark erupted in celebration after the victory: Read more: Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube:

Driving Downtown - San Diego's Gaslamp District 4K - USA
Driving Downtown Neighborhoods - Gaslamp Quarter - San Diego California USA - Episode 18.
Starting Point: J Street .
The Gaslamp Quarter is a district of San Diego, California. It is a 16½ block historical neighborhood in Downtown San Diego, and is the site of several entertainment and night life venues, as well as scheduled events and festivals, including Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp, Street Scene Music Festival, Taste of Gaslamp and ShamROCK, a St. Patrick's Day event. Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres is located one block away in downtown San Diego's East Village.
The area is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places as Gaslamp Quarter Historic District. Its main period of development began in 1867, when Alonzo Horton bought the land in hopes of creating a new city center closer to the bay, and chose 5th Avenue as its main street. After a period of urban decay, the neighborhood underwent urban renewal in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Gaslamp Quarter extends from Broadway to Harbor Drive, and from 4th to 6th Avenue, covering 16½ blocks. It includes 94 historic buildings, most of which were constructed in the Victorian Era, and are still in use with active tenants including restaurants, shops and nightclubs.
San Diego
San Diego is a major city in California, United States. It is in San Diego County, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico.
With an estimated population of 1,394,928 as of July 1, 2015, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana conurbation, the second-largest transborder agglomeration between the US and a bordering country after Detroit–Windsor, with a population of 4,922,723 people. San Diego has been called the birthplace of California. It is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the United States Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission San Diego de Alcalá, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of the newly independent Mexico, which reformed as the First Mexican Republic two years later. In 1850, California became part of the United States following the Mexican–American War and the admission of California to the union.
The city is the seat of San Diego County and is the economic center of the region as well as the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area. San Diego's main economic engines are military and defense-related activities, tourism, international trade, and manufacturing. The presence of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), with the affiliated UCSD Medical Center, has helped make the area a center of research in biotechnology.
Tourism
Tourism is a major industry owing to the city's climate, beaches, and tourist attractions such as Balboa Park, Belmont amusement park, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and SeaWorld San Diego. San Diego's Spanish and Mexican heritage is reflected in many historic sites across the city, such as Mission San Diego de Alcala and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Also, the local craft brewing industry attracts an increasing number of visitors for beer tours and the annual San Diego Beer Week in November; San Diego has been called America's Craft Beer Capital.
San Diego County hosted more than 32 million visitors in 2012; collectively they spent an estimated $8 billion. The visitor industry provides employment for more than 160,000 people.
San Diego's cruise ship industry used to be the second-largest in California. Numerous cruise lines operate out of San Diego. However, cruise ship business has been in decline since 2008, when the Port hosted over 250 ship calls and more than 900,000 passengers. By 2011 the number of ship calls had fallen to 103 (estimated).
Local sight-seeing cruises are offered in San Diego Bay and Mission Bay, as well as whale-watching cruises to observe the migration of gray whales, peaking in mid-January. Sport fishing is another popular tourist attraction; San Diego is home to Southern California's biggest sport fishing fleet.
