Market House Fayetteville, North Carolina
October 3, 2018
The Market House is an unusual combination town hall and town market building in the heart of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina. Built in 1832, has an arcaded open ground level, and a meeting hall above, a form believed to be unique in the United States, but with precedents in England. It served both functions until the early 20th century and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. It now houses a museum on the upper level.
Occasionally slaves were sold at Market Square and the vast majority of these sales were as a result of indebtedness or estate liquidation. During the Civil War, a skirmish took place around the Market House involving Confederate Hampton's and Union General Sherman's troops. After the Civil War, the Market House remained an important part of the civic and economic life of Fayetteville.

Walk Through History at Riverbanks
Take a scenic walk through history at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. The 170-acre site dates back to the early 1800s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Foscue Plantation House Pollocksville NC DRONE
Have you ever wondered what Southern plantation life was like in the 1800s? Step back in time and find out about a fascinating tale of love and war and the strength of a Southern family.
Located on the Trent River, we welcome you to a period in time nearly 200 years ago. Built in 1824 by Simon Foscue, Jr., the plantation house has been in the family for nine generations. The décor is high-style antebellum and retains a number of original furnishings. In addition, the family has continued to acquire antiques which are correct to the period. Placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1971, it was one of the first in North Carolina to be so designated.
It is definitely a tour you won’t want to miss. With three floors and a working basement, cemetery, garden, forest, plantation land, and the Trent River at the back of the property, there is certainly much to see.
