Worcester (Massachusetts) To Hartford (Connecticut)
Worcester is a city in, and the county seat of, Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. Named after Worcester, England, as of the 2010 Census the city's population was 181,045, making it the second most populous city in New England after Boston. Worcester is located approximately 40 miles (64 km) west of Boston, 50 miles (80 km) east of Springfield and 40 miles (64 km) north of Providence. Due to its location in Central Massachusetts, Worcester is known as the Heart of the Commonwealth, thus, a heart is the official symbol of the city. However, the heart symbol may also have its provenance in lore that the Valentine's Day card, although not invented in the city, was mass-produced and popularized by Esther Howland who resided in Worcester.
Hartford is the capital city of Connecticut. It was the seat of Hartford County until Connecticut disbanded county government in 1960. The city is nicknamed the Insurance Capital of the World, as it hosts many insurance company headquarters and is the region's major industry. It is the core city in the Greater Hartford area of Connecticut. Census estimates since the 2010 United States Census have indicated that Hartford is the fourth-largest city in Connecticut, behind the coastal cities of Bridgeport, New Haven, and Stamford.

521 is a semi-express service based out of Boston Southampton Street Layover Facility. The train departs from the Governor Michael S. Dukakis Transportation Center at South Station at 17:00 and calls at Back Bay and Yawkey before running express, allowing the service to use the right hand main through Auburndale, along which all the platforms are on the inbound main only. Local service begins at West Natick through Framingham to Worcester. 521 is the first set to terminate and layover in Worcester, along with 525, 531, and 537.
On the 17th of July, 521 was 65 minutes late pulling out of Grafton. Although this was most likely caused by flooding, I suspect the length of the train was causing issues. 2001 was the first MP46PH-3s pressed into service, and tends to be assigned to the Boston & Albany. Considering she was pulling more K-cars and Rotems than there are in existence, that may be causing some strain on the locomotive. Starting at 3:39 in the video we enter unexplored territory beyond the real number of bi-level coaches.
For clarification: there are 215 bi-level coaches on the MBTA broken into the following categories: 140 built by Kawasaki, 61 built by Hyundai-Rotem; 82 K-car 700s, 33 K-car 900s, 47 (Sc)Rotems, 25 K-cabs, 28 Junkcabs; 50 BTC-4, 17 BTC-4A, 15 BTC-4B, 33 BTC-4C, 47 BTC-4D, 25 CTC-4, 28 CTC-5, 162 blind coaches, 53 cabcars, 1 unique fleet. Beginning in 2014 the MBTA sent the K-car 700s for rebuilding with Alstom. Upgrades were given to widen doors for ADA compliance, add destination displays, and other modifications to upgrade equipment and integrate with the (Sc)Rotem fleet. Rebuilt equipment is designated as a D-type rebuild and in my excel spreadsheet marked BTC-4(D), BTC-4A(D), BTC-4B(D), and CTC-4(D). The K-car 900s were not elected for rebuilding since they already had many of the features of the (Sc)Rotems including electronically operated automatic doors.
For the record, The Big One only has one Rotem in the consist in the first slot. The remaining are K-cars which I am yet to identify due to motion blur and rain. I am working on a guide to outline spotting differences among the bi-level fleet, including destination display location, window arrangement (which varies by side looking at) end bumps and buffers, reflectors, door stickers, ADA stickers, Bike stickers, HVAC, Emergency exits and Emergency exit sticker color. So far I looked at one train and got overwhelmed. There's a lot of differences!
Really this train had 9 cars which does make it the longest revenue set ever recorded. On July 26th I spotted the 9 car set tied up on the spur closest to Shrewsbury street on its own around 19:03. 2001 was by herself as 523 glided into Union Station. This evidence suggests that the set is permanently assigned to the B&A on 521 and another corresponding inbound layover set. I'm hoping to see her more often in Framingham where I will be assigned until further notice.

Again, I apologize for the crappy video, this was very busy with people trying to get to their appointment. The good thing is, it’s open on weekends, so I can come back and get a very good retake. I'm glad I got the cab view and view of the phone.
Watertown Bounces Back
Following five days of uncertainty and tension, the Boston area is slowly returning to normal, after a manhunt led to the arrest of a suspect in Monday's Boston Marathon double bombings. Nineteen-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who hid from police during a lockdown of the Boston area, was captured Friday night in the suburb of Watertown. His 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan, was shot and killed in a gunbattle with police earlier in the week. VOA's Carolyn Presutti returned to Watertown Saturday to see how things are going and files this report.

YAWKEY 6 Imaging Suite - Massachusetts General Hospital
This three-year, five-phased project was constructed in a fully operational, clinical space. Collaboration with MGH, Payette and G. Greene Construction was essential to ensure this project was a success and one we could all be proud of. Included in the new imaging suite was a new state-of-the-art 3T MRI with equipment room and (2) CT Scans. New corridors (with separate patient and staff access), waiting rooms, changing rooms and administration support spaces were also constructed. One of the most critical phases of this project was hoisting the Siemens 3T MRI , 4 x 8 x 8 in size, weighing 18,000 lbs to the 6th floor. The MRI was hoisted up 100 feet through a narrow 14-foot space between two buildings. Due to this challenging process, safety requirements were essential for both the workers and pedestrians to walk to their destinations out of harm’s way.
