Rotunda Bar at Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square
Rotunda Bar at Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square celebrates the building's 1920's heritage with a new bar and dining experience inspired by The Bright Young Things. Head Bartender Michal Maziarz has taken inspiration from this euphoric period of post-war history and the notorious Bright Young Things, with much-loved artists Cecil Beaton, John Betjeman and Nancy Mitford among its ranks, who were famed throughout the 1920s for being at the centre of many a raucous London party.
With live entertainment inspired by the influential Dixieland and American jazz of early 1920s Britain, up until the 1950s when British jazz started to make its own mark, the music will bring The Bright Young Things to the Rotunda every Thursday evening.

What time is A Very British Hotel on tonight and what is it about?
The new Channel 4 show, A Very British Hotel, goes behind the scenes at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel, a favourite haunt of the rich and famous.
This new documentary sheds light on some of the outrageous requests of the super rich who stay at one of London’s most exclusive hotels.
They range from demanding their breast milk be flown home to their baby in America, to finding an elephant to attend their wedding and even splashing out thousands of pounds to have their clothes ironed.
Every year, the hotel’s staff welcome celebrities as well as wealthy Middle Eastern VIPs who splash out up to £20,000 to stay there for just one night.
Will there be any famous faces on A Very British Hotel?
The hotel attracts not only the rich, but also the famous.
Well known featuring in the show are author Jilly Cooper and Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood.
Hollywood superstar Morgan Freeman also takes time out of his busy schedule to talk about why he loves the hotel so much
Where is the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park? Can I stay at there?
The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel is in Knightsbridge.
Anyone can stay but it comes at a price.
For just a standard room for the night, the lowest price is £540 and they go up to £2,760.
But if you want a suite you have to call the hotel to get a price, and the cost can go up to £20,000 for just an overnight stay.
British Pub Tips
While traveling through England, every night I’m eating at pubs and restaurants I recommend in my England guidebook. And I have to say, the eating has been excellent. Here’s a peek at the Dolphin Pub in Canterbury. (Notice the energy — things feel pretty good in England wherever we’ve gone.)
We’re just finishing our third TV episode in England this month, and we’re coming home with three brilliant shows. As usual, elements I really like need to be deleted, as 30 minutes of TV is only 3,000 words. Here’s the text that was in our Southeast England script but had to be pulled:
“England’s pubs offer a warm, friendly welcome and, for many, an essential part of any visit to Britain. Pub is short for public house — it's the neighborhood's extended living room. It's a multi-generational affair and, while children aren't served beer, the entire family is welcome. Whether you're drinking or eating, don't wait to be served. Go to the bar to order.
England loves its brews. Each village seems to have its own microbrew. Beer aficionados go for the real English ales and bitters. They're from the long-handled pumps literally hand-drawn from kegs in the cellar. For a lighter, colder, and carbonated brew — ask for a lager. They fizz out of the short tap handles.
The standard serving is a full pint. While women routinely order a half pint, when a man does, it can make you the butt of jokes. But, if you don’t know the various beers and want to double your experience (and can endure the ridicule), ordering by the half pint (which costs exactly half as much as a full pint) lets you double your beer-exploration experience.”
(This is Day 83 of my 100 Days in Europe series. As I lead tours, research my guidebooks and make new TV shows, I’m reporting on my experiences and lessons learned in Vienna, the Alps, the Low Countries, England, and beyond. Find more at
