O.G.O.B. Traverse City Michigan BicyclingTrip 2016
Some Old Guys On Bikes from Indiana went to Traverse City, Michigan to do some cycling. (7/31/16 to 8/6/16) Scroll down for RideWithGPS links. We had fantastic time and highly recommend the area for good roads and friendly natives. The video is organized by date with some fun visuals from each day. Please enjoy.
If you'd like to trace our routes, here are the RideWithGPS links. All but one of the rides originate near the house we rented at East Carter Road and SW Bay Shore Drive. The other started in Petoskey. We stayed away from major roads. With that said, when we were on busy roads there was adequate shoulder 95% of the time. Also, Michigan is known for it's awesome trail network which we took advantage of when we could.

Summer Break! - 3 Day Vacation to Traverse City MI! Camping + Downtown Traverse City
Liz and I have a tradition every summer between our birthdays (Both In June!) to head up North and get some quality time together and recharge. With the craziness of the first 8-10 weeks of spring for my lawn care business, we always make it a priority to take some personal time to regroup and relax.
Traverse City MI is one of the most beautiful places in MI to visit. If you've been there, you know what we mean! We started a 3 day little va-cay camping in downtown Traverse City. Day 2 and 3 will take us through and to Petosky and Charlevoix MI. More vlogs to come!
Hope you guys enjoy hanging with us as we show you some of the stuff we've been up to this summer! We had a blast bringing the camera, and capturing these moments. If you ever get a chance to swing up to Northern MI, you have got to check these towns out!

Michigan Brewery Road Trip
After securing an interview with Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids Michigan, the Better Beer Authority decided to make a vacation out of it - ROAD TRIP! We hit 11 breweries in 3 days and sampled beer until our palettes were complete mush. It was a blast. Watch the video and travel along with us.

We arrived on Thursday night and hit Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo, MI -- Ratebeer's #3 rated brewery in the world -- We wanted to interview Larry Bell, but that punk wouldn't return our phone calls, But I ain't bitter. So, we just decided to have a few warm-up beers at the Eccentric Café, which is their brewpub. We didn't want to get too crazy because we had an early wake-up call for our interview at Founders the next day and I had to get my beauty sleep. We had some samplers that came on these cool platters in the shape of the state of Michigan and called it a night soon thereafter.
The next morning we woke up early and headed to Grand Rapids, Michigan for our interview at Founders. We set up the interview in their boardroom and I wasn't sure what to expect. When Dave Engbers and Mike Stevens, the founders of Founders, walked in at 10am and offered us a pre-interview beer I knew it was going to be a great talk. I can't say enough good things about Founders. The guys running are a ton of fun and they have some amazing beer. Please check out the full interview with them on our Youtube channel. After the interview we went to their taproom and we could have stayed there all day. They had a great selection of beers and the beer hall was already buzzing by lunchtime. But we had other stops to hit, so we loaded up and headed to Brewery Vivant.
BREWERY VIVANT
HOPCAT
WHITE FLAME
SAUGATUCK
Our final destination for the day was New Holland Brewing Company in Holland, Michigan. This was definitely one of the breweries I was most looking forward to. I love their beer called The Poet, so it was a real treat to get that on tap. The bar was hopping with a live band. Knowing that this was our last stop, we relaxed a little and had some fun. Richard ordered Das Boot and we finished our night off with 2 liters of Mad Hatter IPA -- which was a great way to end the day.
ARCADIA ALES
Dark Horse Brewing Company in Marshall, Michigan was one of our favorite stops on the trip. They had great beers and a cool brewpub with mugs hanging everywhere. Our waitress found one of the brewers, Dave, to give us a tour of the brewery. They have an outdoor garden area with a stage that would be a lot of fun on a warmer day. On the tour, we met Wiggs, their resident hippy and production manager. Afterwards, we went up to their VIP loft where the tours go for for tastings. We shared a few samples with Wiggs and learned more about Dark Horse. They are currently #26 on ratebeer's Top Breweries in the World list. When we were about to leave, Wiggs gave us a case of beer for the road. In it were six bottles of Bourbon Barrel Aged Plead the 5th, which ended up being the Better Beer Authority's #1 beer of 2012. You should definitely stop at this brewery if you are in the area.

Cherry Festival 2016 Crowds Vs Christian Extremists (Part 1) - Traverse City, Michigan - [HD]
Well here we are at the usual location that the Christian Extremists are found during every last day of The National Cherry Festival with their anti-gay/homosexual signs and hate, and so with that comes heated debates, yelling and back and forth trolling. The Traverse City, Michigan, National Cherry Festival Crowds have OWNED the Grand Rapids Baptist Church Christian Extremists! They can't escape me though. Well enjoy the ownage of Christian Extremists! And whoever did the whole I love Turtles signs and so on, you are all awesome! And thanks for the crowd support as well. We ganged up on them Christians, and it surely was worth it! Although we got the Police Officers all 10 or more pretty nervous! Lol! Anyway, I want to also note that not all of these people of the Christian Extremist ways are from Grand Rapids, a lot of them are from different locations but they go around as a unit doing these protests at different locations. Their website is turnfromsin.com - I have done a lot of research on these people. The child of the group is from South Carolina and is 13, the main instigator is 36 and from Grand Rapids, a few from Lansing, and many others from many other locations. Anyway, here is this years battle of the crowds vs Christianized Extremists. So see y'all again next year! Same time same location!
Now You Know: Ghost Genevive at Bowers Harbor Inn
The beautiful Bowers Harbor Inn sits peacefully along Grand Traverse Bay on Old Mission Peninsula. But one wandering soul that lies within sometimes makes this seemingly peaceful place, not so peaceful. Genevive Stickney, the original owner, haunts the old Inn. Legend has it that she hung herself in the elevator in the home. Her husband had an affair with the nurse he hired to care for her and when he died he left all of his riches to the nurse and only the Inn to Genevive.

Winter Ice-ride: Leaving Chateau Chantal
Dennis and I leaving Chateau Chantal, 15 miles out Old Mission Peninsula, today. We left the house at 1 PM, went as far as Old Mission, then turned for the Winery. A gorgeous day on the road. We were even paced for a time by a bald eagle along the east arm of Grand Traverse Bay. We stopped at Chateau Chantal Winery to warm up, taste some wine, and hear some jazz music. Jeff Hass and his quartet were playing. We forked over the extra $5.00 for a taste of the CC Ice Wine. Very good stuff, and quite appropriate for the day's events. Both of us were riding Innova studded 700c tires. Dennis on his Ridley Cross bike with 1x9 gears. Me on my Steelwool expedition bike with a 46x18 fixed gear. Those tires are effective, but jeesh they are heavy. About 35 miles on snowy, ice-edged, roads.

Shari G.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Ranger Review: Optic Nerve Sunglasses at Wild Cherry RV Resort
Campground Review:
Nestled in a private spot on the Leelanau Peninsula on the 45th north parallel and just a couple miles from Lake Leelanau (west) and Suttons Bay (east) beach, marina, and village is this quiet RV and tent campground. While trees line the perimeter and are speckled throughout the campground, all of the RV sites are completely open to the sun, making it an RV parking lot with grass. Each RV site comes with water and electrical hook-ups. While most RV campgrounds have centralized bathrooms with flush toilets, sinks, and showers, this one is lacking those amenities.
The tent camping area has 10 sites, is nestled in the trees, with a picnic table and fire ring at each site. In addition, there are 2 rustic cabins and 1 yurt nestled among the tent sites for those who aren’t interested in roughing it as much. There is a one pit toilet, a unique “tent shower,” and a central fresh water spigot for campers and those staying in the cabins.
There are 2 man-made ponds in the middle of the RV section of the campground, which sadly act more as mosquito breeding grounds than they do for water activities as they are quite small. There is also a new driving range above the campground for the golfers in the group.
The best part of this campground is its location. It is just a couple miles from either Suttons Bay and Lake Leelanau, and within walking/biking distance of 2 local wineries (Forty-Five North and Aurora), nice restaurants, and great backroads that are off the beaten path and away from nearly all traffic. The Forty-Five North Vineyard and Winery has a great walking/mountain biking trail in addition to a nice selection of very accessible wines, a great atmosphere, and super friendly staff! Hang out on their porch or play cornhole and bocce ball while you enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese plate.
Product Review: As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I was able to test the Rapid sunglasses by Optic Nerve. After a day of cycling and wine tasting, we took our sea kayaks...
