LISBON: 25 de Abril Bridge (Portugal)
Ponte 25 de Abril is a Portuguese suspension bridge connecting Lisbon/Lisboa to the municipality of Almada on the left (south) bank of the Tagus river.
It was inaugurated on August 6, 1966, and a train platform was added in 1999.
Because it is a suspension bridge and has similar coloring, it is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, US.
It was built by the American Bridge Company which constructed the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, but not the Golden Gate.
With a total length of 2,277 m, it is the 27th largest suspension bridge in the world. The upper deck carries six car lanes (70 m above water), while the lower deck carries two train tracks (since 1999).
Until 1974, the bridge was named Salazar Bridge. The name 25 de Abril commemorates the Carnation Revolution in 1974.
Several movies have been filmed on the bridge, including some scenes in the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

The 25th of April Bridge spans over the Tagus River connecting Lisbon with Almada. The bridge has two decks, the top one for motor vehicles and the lower deck for local trains. The main span of the bridge is just over a kilometer long (total bridge length is almost 2.3 kms) while the main towers soar to a height of 190 m.
The bridge is coated with International Orange, the same colour used on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The 25 de Abril Bridge is based in part on two San Francisco Bay Area bridges: its paint is the same International Orange as the famous Golden Gate Bridge; and its design is similar to that of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. Both the Bay Bridge and the 25 de Abril Bridge were built by the same company. The American Society of Civil Engineers says that Like its sister bridge, the SFOBB in San Francisco, the Tagus River Bridge is located in an area with a long history of earthquakes and seismic data had to be taken into account in its construction. Another sister bridge is the Forth Road Bridge in Edinburgh.
Upon completion, the bridge had the longest suspended span and the longest main span in Continental Europe, the world's longest continuous truss, and the world's deepest bridge foundation. It was the fifth-largest suspension bridge in the world, the largest outside the US. Today it is the 27th largest suspension bridge in the world.

The 25 de Abril Bridge Portugal LISBON
The Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge is one of Lisbon’s most notable landmarks as it spans the River Tagus at the narrowest point. This massive bridge closely resembles that of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the date name remembers the Portuguese Carnation Revolution of 25 April 1974. The suspension bridge connects Lisbon, on the north bank, with the commuter districts of Alameda on the south bank. The bridge is a distinctive landmark of Lisbon and crossing the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge makes for a fantastic entrance to Lisbon.

Lisbon Skyline (Lisboa) in Portugal (Panoramic view on 25 de Abril Bridge)
Lisbon is the capital and the largest city of Portugal. It is the westernmost large city located in continental Europe, as well as its westernmost capital city and the only one along the Atlantic coast. Lisbon lies in the western Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus, and has a population of 547,631. About 3,035,000 people live in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (which represents approximately 27% of the population of the country).
Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. Julius Caesar made it a municipium called Felicitas Julia, adding to the name Olissipo. Ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century, it was captured by the Moors in the 8th century. In 1147, the Crusaders under Afonso Henriques reconquered the city and since then it has been a major political, economic and cultural centre of Portugal. Unlike most capital cities, Lisbon's status as the capital of Portugal has never been granted or confirmed officially – by statute or in written form. Its position as the capital has formed through constitutional convention, making its position as de facto capital a part of the Constitution of Portugal.
This video is shot from the Cristo Rei - Christ the King statue in Lisbon. The Cristo Rei statue in Lisbon is one of the most iconic monuments in Portugal’s capital city. It was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, following a visit by the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon to the Brazilian city in 1959 and permission was granted by then rule, Salazar.
The monument was erected as a thank you to god for Portugal having been spared during the Second World War. It is centrally located in a dominant position in the Almada, on the opposite banks of the Tagus River from downtown Lisbon.
The statue measures 92 feet high and is perched on a 270-foot high pedestal, which can be reached by an elevator.
The Cristo Rei statue stands with open arms in a symbolic gesture, dominating the city’s skyline. The views from the statue are as breathtaking as the views of it, with the sweeping panorama taking in the banks of the Tagus River, the 25 de Abril Bridge that crosses it, and the rooftops and spires of the Lisbon skyline beyond.
