New from the THREE WISE MONKEYS- ISLANDS music video is the first single from the new album PROGETTO ARTE. Now available from all Digital Stores and Streaming services
ISLANDS is the new music video by THREE WISE MONKEYS that announces the release of their PROGETTO ARTE album featuring tracks composed during their 2015 sessions.
Recorded in pristine 192kHZ at the UWS studios on the 30th September 2015, the ISLANDS video features footage from their initial Live direct to disk recording and follow up re-tracking sessions.
The song's title came about after looking at some of the footage, and noticing the lightning made the members look like they were in seperate islands, it seemed to fit and has stuck ever since.
The song idea has been floating around the Monkeys from there creation in 2010, and was one of the first ideas jammed in the early sessions. Some of the drum ideas are attributed to those early sessions featuring Liam, and a sample from his trash hats were also incorporated in the final recordings as a legacy tribute to his contribution.
The band originally tried to record the track live to disc (and film the session) on the 30th of September, though it was felt, they didn't capture the essence of the song. The song was re-tracked seperately, hence the footage in the video of Brendon with Headphones on. This footage was spliced into the original live footage to create the video. The Bass and Guitars were recorded in Kypo's home studio, using a Universal Audio Apollo twin interface into a iMac running Logic pro @ 192khz.
Bass was recorded direct, with some Amplitube - Ampeg amp simulation to colour the signal.
Kypo used the Koa top guitar to re-track the final recording, running thru a Mesa Boogie Roadking into a Mesa Cab Clone. The video shows Kypo's using a relic'd Sustainer Strat. This guitar does not feature on the final recording. Final Bass and Guitars were recorded on 23rd November 2015.
Drums were re-tracked at UWS on the 9Nov2015 via a Protools system running at 192khz, this session featured Brendon on his Pearl MCX Kitt, with some added cymbals such as the ozone, to compliment his own cymbals.

PROGETTO ARTE is the new THREE WISE MONKEYS album released on the 10th December 2015. The album features 12 new compositions, recorded @ 192khz. Embracing more improvisation, the bands goal was to capture themselves in the moments of creation, with many of the recordings on the album are either improvised or recorded direct to disk. The whole experiment, some 15 sessions in total was captured by 7 go pro cameras, and shared with 3WM fans, as the band created the album.This has lead many reviews to quote the quality of the musicianship and honesty of the creations, as a triumph of artistic integrity.

Panopticon Music Videoby the THREE WISE MONKEYS (3WM)
New 3WM Track :: PANOPTICON. Featuring some drop D riffage, two handed bass tapping in a weird time signature and some mighty drum pounding. Comments welcome:)

PANOPTICON was written and conceived by our drummer Brendon Waterman. Final arrangement by the 3WM.
A Panopticon is a type of prision designed to allow a single watchman to observe all inmates. At times, the studio can feel a little like this with all the Go Pro cameras!
Brendon brought us the idea for this song, in the form of the intro tapping line and the initial Verse and Chorus vamp.
We jammed this idea for 3 weeks, and came up with an arrangement which included a new finale' idea.
Panopticon will be released later this year on the forthcoming 3WM album :: PROGETTO ARTE. The album will feature new 3WM compositions from 2015, written and recorded in the studio. We have already release 3 other tracks , which you will find video's for on our Facebook page. Pre-sales of the album will commence shortly.
Panopticon was recorded in studio A of UWS on the 3rd of June 2015, @ 192kHz, via a Digidesign Protools console.
Kypo played a EVH Wolfgang guitar into an Ernie Ball volume pedal, direct into a Mesa Roadking II, channel 4, with 6 power tubes selected and the silicon rectifier, into a 2x12 Mesa Cab, miked with a Rode Classic II tube condenser. Some delay was added in Post-production for the solo sections. Additional room emulation was added via UAD Ocean Way plug in, in Post production.
Alex's Bass was recorded via a DI, and an Ampeg amp sim in Amplitube was used to add some balls in Post Production. In the studio he played thru Brendon's Mark Bass amp.
Brendons using the USW studio A house kitt, a Pearl Vision and he has complimented it the cymbals with his own. Theres a trash, china and yeah, the one with a big chunk out of it.
We used a variety of RODE and Shure Mic's on the kitt. 6 lines all up. Kick, snare, 2 toms, & 2 overheads.
An additional condenser mic was set up in between the 3 musicians to capture a room sound.
Track was mixed and mastered in Logic Pro, with UAD plugins.
The video footage was taken with a variety of Go Pro's and Kaiser Bass x80's running in 1080p, and a Sony action cam filming in 4K. Additional footage was taken with an iPhone 6 using the slow motion feature.

Hence we have been developing videos to let you into the creative process as we have been jamming. Normally we get one out every week or two. Originally a live band, we do intend to play live in the near future, and look forward to meeting many of our fans in person, when we hit the road. Until then. Enjoy the tunes!

GRAVITAS by the Three Wise Monkeys
Gravitas is a track we composed earlier this year. The idea was to get the three instruments to play in more a counterpoint style, and to work dynamically with each other. Features some Bass tapping, odd times, and some great drum fills.
Gravitas was one of the Roman virtues,[1] along with pietas, dignitas and virtus. It may be translated variously as weight, seriousness and dignity, also importance, and connotes a certain substance or depth of personality.
This track was recorded on the 22nd and 29th of April 2015. There was approximately 20 takes, which were edited together, although the finished mix is 90% take #19.
The intro was flown in from the week before, and is actually the first time the band played the idea. It had the right dynamics for the intro.
Recorded in 192khz on a protools system at UWS.
Kypo played the 3WM strat into a Mesa Boogie Transatlantic, via Ernie ball volume and the Ulbrick Phataxe Pedal. Cab was miced with a Rode Classic mk 2.
Brendon played the Uni studio kitt with some addition cymbals.
