Framlingham USAAF airfield 8TH Airforce 390TH bomb group museum and control tower.
A short video I made with still pictures at the site of the former USAAF base at Framlingham, Suffolk, UK, Part of the 8th airforce, the 390th BG (Heavy) flew from here in WW2.
The control tower is extant and is open to visitors for free, with the museum beneath.
It is well woth a visit if you are ever in the area.
After the picture montage, there is a video showing a large B-17G built by a local. The diorama it sits on is very well made too, and the simulated motor sound with the props spinning was great to see.

After the War in Europe, runways were broken up and buildings were allowed to become dilapidated and, when not pulled apart, were used for farm storage. Among them was the Control Tower, shot up and abandoned after the Americans held a riotous farewell party there in August 1945, Framlingham Station 153, as the 390th bomb group knew the airfield now stood neglected, windowless and derelict. A five year restoration programme began, using volunteer labour and funded from their own resources and the Tower was finally dedicated as the 390th Bombardment Group Memorial Air Museum of the USAAF on 13th May 1981. The museum comprises the 390th Bombardment Group Memorial Air Museum and the Museum of the British Resistance Organisation operating under one Management Committee. It's continued existence relies on volunteer support and donations to help with maintenance necessary to ensure continued preservation of the building and it's contents. This film was shot on 07.06.09.
Station 153 Then and Now - Keynote Presentation, 390th Bomb Group Reunion 2018
During the Veterans Honor Banquet at the 2018 Reunion of the 390th Bombardment Group (H) in Tucson, Arizona, Frank Drain presented the keynote presentation Station 153: Then and Now. The powerpoint video seamlessly integrates wartime and present-day images of Station 153, which was the 390th Bomb Group's WWII air base near Framlingham, England.
The 390th Bombardment Group (H) flew 301 combat missions against German military targets during WWII. It played an important role in many missions now recognized as key to winning WWII such as D-Day, Munster, Schweinfurt, and the raid on Berlin. It also participated in lesser-known humanitarian missions in which the B-17 was utilized to drop supplies and food.
Today, the 390th Bombardment Group Memorial Air Museum is housed in the original World War II control tower of Framlingham Station 153. Exhibits focus on the history of the U.S 8th Air Force, the Royal Air Force and the German Luftwaffe in the Second World War. Displays include recovered Second World War aircraft engines, parts of Allied and German aircraft, uniforms, photographs, documents, combat records, paintings and memorabilia.
Meanwhile, the 390th Memorial Museum in Tucson, Arizona houses a restored B-17 Flying Fortress. This museum shares the compelling and deeply personal narratives of the Bomb Group members as they recall their experiences in the WWII European Air War.

Episode 21 - RAF Twinwood Farm
Lil & Fitz pay a visit to the RAF Twinwood aviation museum, where Glen Miller began his final flight. We both encountered a little more than history on our trip. In digging into the history of Twinwoods, we also meet paranormal investigator and author, Adrian Perkins to talk about his investigation of the site.
Long time listener and patron Andrew shares another of his paranormal experiences from Okinawa, Kirsty recounts her experiences at Hohne Barracks in Germany that are adjacent to the Bergen Belsen concentration camp and Erin gets her fingers burnt whilst contacting the other side.
If you would like to see more of our visit to RAF Twinwood, you can do so by becoming a patron of Knock Once For Yes over at Patreon from as little as $1 a month. Our Patrons have access to bonus content unavailable elsewhere, including a video tour of our visit to Twinwood:
