The best whale watching on the planet - Victoria, BC, Canada
The best whale watching place anywhere on the planet These are the words of Captain Ian Roberts, who has led these unforgettable trips for the last 5 years. As this video shows, the thrilling 3-hour Whale watching trip is an experience you will never forget. Often called Rigid Hull Inflatables, Zodiacs are fast, open vessels for those wishing to experience an exhilarating ride in the open air and sun. Look out for Vancouver Island whales, marine birds, seals, porpoise, sea lions, and abundant flora and fauna.
The 12-passenger Zodiacs are powered with twin engines and are equipped with high tech safety equipment, as well as Hydrophones (an onboard acoustic system that allows listeners to hear sounds from beneath the vessel). After having been assisted onboard your 28-foot vessel, you will be offered gloves, goggles and sunscreen should weather conditions require. After a safety briefing with your Skipper, off you go!
Naturalist interpretations are offered throughout your excursion including Whale, marine mammal and marine bird history. The biology, behaviour and habits of these animals will be discussed at the many stops made en-route. Photographic opportunities are phenomenal! With the vessel at rest, take out your camera and enjoy the nature around you as you listen to the naturalist imparting stories of the Pacific Ocean ecosystems.
Catch a glimpse of a Dall's Porpoise, a Minke Whale or some majestic Killer Whales. If the conditions are right, you will have the opportunity to listen to their communication. Hydrophones onboard can pick up and amplify the hauntingly beautiful sounds of the Orcas as they converse with each other through a series of whistles and clicks.

If you are wondering what to do in Victoria B.C., then this is the vlog for you. We are going to share with you our top ten things to do in Victoria B.C. Put on your pedometers and fitbits because most of them are in walking distance in downtown Victoria and you will have bragging rights about the number of steps you walk each day. Some of them are a short drive out of town if you have a car. We have shared our best free things to do in Victoria and some of the things that are well worth the money.
#10 Whale Watching Tours with BC Whale Tours
Whale watching in Victoria BC is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is worth the extra money to go out on a whale watching tour. If you are in Victoria and you have the time and money, make sure you go whale watching at least once.
#9 Fan Tan Alley in Chinatown
One of the most interesting things to do in Victoria BC is visit Fan Tam Alley in Chinatown. The Alley is great for photography and shopping. My personal favourite is Kid Sister Ice Cream.
#8 Shopping in Victoria BC, Lower Johnson to Government Street
My favourite place to shop in Victoria BC are the shops on Lower Johnson and then walk along Government Street. There are lots of independently owned businesses with local artisans that you will not find anywhere else.
#7 Victoria Bakery
Victoria BC has no shortage of fabulous bakeries. Our personal favourite is Crust Bakery on Fort Street. I would recommend their cronuts, a cross between a croissant and a donut.
#6 Beacon Hill Park Petting Zoo - Running of the Goats, Goat Stampede!
The gate to the Beacon Hill Children’s Farm open’s at 10 am in the summer and everyday at 10:10 am there is the adorable “Running of the Goats,” 30 seconds of sheer joy.
#5 Beacon Hill Park
Beacon Hill Park is over 200 acres of gorgeous parkland in downtown Victoria BC. There are bridges, lakes, ponds, paths, gardens, trees, flowers, running streams, ducks, birds, wildlife, eagles, and blue herons. It is a beautiful place to go for a walk or sit on a park bench.
#4 Goldstream Provincial Park
If you have a car you can take a short drive out of town to Goldstream Provincial Park. The park boasts some beautiful old-growth trees including Douglas firs and Western Red Cedars. Some of them are 600 years old. You can walk the flat trails around the lower part of the park or if you are feeling adventurous take a hike up to the Railway Trestle.
#3 Mount Doug (Mount Douglas Park)
Again if you have a car you can drive out to Saanich and take a drive to the top of Mount Doug from noon to dusk each day. Churchill Drive allows you to drive to the top seven days a week, or if you are feeling fit, you can take any of the trails from the bottom to the summit for spectacular 360 degree views of the city.
#2 Eat at Red Fish Blue Fish
Our favourite restaurant in Victoria BC is Red Fish Blue Fish. Red Fish Blue Fish actually isn’t a restaurant, you have to line up and for a long time at an up-cycled cargo container in the Inner Harbour for your fish and chips or tacones. Then you get to sit on the wooden pier and eat your seafood with a view of the sea planes, sailboats, kayakers and seals in the inner harbour. I will say it again, is worth the line up!
#1 Feed the Seals at Oak Bay Marina
Our number one thing to do in Victoria BC is to feed the seals at Oak Bay Marina. The harbour seals are super fun and entertaining as you throw them frozen fish pieces. You will love capturing their cute faces for your instagram feed. This is always the highlight of our visitors’ stay.
So there you have it. Our top 10 things to do in Victoria BC. What are your favourite things to do in Victoria BC? Would you change the order of our list? What would you add? What would you take away? Leave your comments, let us know.

In Victoria BC Vancouver Island
Victoria
Victoria (pronounced /vɪkˈtɔəriə/) is the capital city of British Columbia, Canada. Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria is a major tourism destination seeing more than 3.65 million visitors a year who inject more than one billion dollars into the local economy.[3] Victoria is a cruise ship port where cruise liners stop at Ogden Point terminal. The city also receives economic benefits from its close proximity to Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, the Canadian militarys main Pacific naval base. Downtown Victoria also serves as Greater Victoria's regional downtown, where many night clubs, theatres, restaurants and pubs are clustered, and where much larger regional public events occur. In particular, Canada Day fireworks displays and Symphony Splash and Victoria Electronic Music Festival concerts draw tens of thousands of Greater Victorians and visitors to the downtown core.
The city has hosted sports events including the 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, 2005 Ford World Men's Curling Championship tournament, the 1994 Commonwealth Games, and 2006 Skate Canada. Victoria co-hosted the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup at Royal Athletic Park, and is the venue for the Bastion Square Grand Prix Criterium road cycling race. The city is also a destination for conventions, meetings, and conferences, including a 2007 North Atlantic Treaty Organization military chief of staff meeting. Every year, the Swiftsure International Yacht Race brings boaters from around the world, to participate in the boat race in the waters off of Vancouver Island as well the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival brings over 90 teams from around North America. The Tall Ships Festival brings sailing ships to Victoria for the public to see and feel the sailing way of life in the past and present. For the more adventurous sailors, Victoria also hosts the start of the Vic-Maui Yacht Race, the longest offshore sailboat race on the West Coast.

Sailing SV Pardon My French: 2017 Swiftsure - Victoria, BC
It’s never too late to post… Swiftsure 2017 was a hit. Come along for a summary of a 33 hour adventure of sailing, drone flying, nap taking in the strait of Juan de Fuca… If you don’t sail, we hope it’ll give you a view into why we love it so much--and if you do sail--well maybe you can spot your boat and/or relive some good memories. Real action starts at 7 mins in...
A 1993 40.5 Hunter Legend, she’s certainly not even close to being the fastest but she’s never afraid to go rumble with the big guys. What she lacks in speed, she gives in spirit, and in stride.
Our course, one of four long races, is a 101.9nm stretch on the waters of the strait of Juan de Fuca between Victoria, BC and Neah Bay on the Washington coast at the Pacific Ocean.
It took us one day and 9 hours to finish, including an 8 hour anchor lull. We placed 5th in our class with smiles all around. Big thanks to Alec (17), Antoni, Antoine, Eric and Shannon for joining in the adventure.
If you can spot our mistakes and are interested in crewing on Pardon My French, shoot us a mail to svpardonmyfrench@gmail.com - will get in touch if we have available spots for upcoming races.
Hope you enjoy the ride; if you so like and share!

This past week our friend Mike was having some repairs done on his boat in Sidney B.C. He asked us if we wanted to go with him to pick up his boat and bring it back to Oak Bay Marina by water. Of course we said yes.
The morning got off to a slow start as the boat before us needed some bolts tightened since it was still leaking! Then the machinery used to put the boat in the water sprung a leak as well. After about a 3 hour delay the boat was finally in the water.
It was super fun to boat from Sidney to Victoria, seeing all the landmarks from the water that we normally see from land. We boated by downtown Sidney, island view beach, James Island, Cordova Bay, Cadboro Bay and enjoyed the scenery along the way.
Thanks for watching, if you liked the video from the water, please give the video a thumbs up, subscribe and turn on notifications, leave a comment and let us know about your boating adventures.
With gratitude, Tim and Melissa

Time Lapse: Metro Vancouver to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
September 19, 2017 - It's Tuesday night and I'm leaving town!
I'm driving from Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia, to Victoria, the capital of the province.
Though Victoria is only 100 kilometres away, it is on Vancouver Island and must be accessed by a ferry. This separation gives the city the feel of being incredibly different from the frantic metropolis on the mainland; I suppose all of the historical buildings that make up Victoria and its surrounding area help with that delightfully historic and British character, too.
The journey from Tsawwassen (south of Vancouver on the mainland) to Swartz Bay (north of Victoria on Vancouver Island) takes only 90 minutes to cross. In the daylight hours it is a beautiful cruise, half of which on the wide open waters of the Strait of Georgia, and the other half navigating the small channels between the Southern Gulf Islands.
The midway point, Active Pass, has always been a favourite point of this journey. Here are a few other videos I took in years past showing this beautiful stretch of water:

Victoria BC's Best Beaches
Victoria is on Vancouver Island and has DOZENS of great beaches. This is my collection of the BEST for different reasons, the best for science explorers, the best for birders and history buffs, the best for urban wind sports, the best for families, and the best to kickback before leaving the island. See the beaches from the air, the ground, in rain and sun, and hopefully you'll save some time on a visit and find the right one for you. Aerial Video from Phantom and Q500 quadcopters, Ground and water video from GoPro Hero3, Lumix FZ1000 and Sony Rx100M3. Edited in Final Cut Pro and music created in Garageband 10.

Our Adventures in Vancouver, B.C. Canada - August 2017
We start our adventure riding the Amtrak Cascades from King Street Station to Vancouver, B.C., then hop on board a sailboat in Stamps Landing Harbour for a 3 hour sail in English Bay before winding up at Mahony and Sons for an after sail drink. We find the Lord Stanley Suites right next to Stanley Park and walk to dinner at Cardero's in Coal Harbour. Day two starts off with breakfast at Joe's followed by renting bikes and exploring the seawall in Stanley Park. I go exploring statues in Stanley Park after our bike ride and then we wrap up the day having cocktails at Lift Bar and Grill and Dinner at Cactus Club Cafe.

A Day in Victoria
Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia, Canada, and is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island about 62 miles from BC's largest, Canada's third largest city of Vancouver. Victoria is close to the United States, about 62 miles from Seattle. The population of the City of Victoria was 78,057 in 2006. The Trans-Canada Highway, uniformly designated as Highway 1, begins in Victoria. A very nice place to start a journey.
