Driving Downtown - Chicago Illinois USA - Episode 42.
Starting Point: .
Chicago is the third-most populous city in the United States. With over 2.7 million residents it is the most populous city in the state of Illinois and the Midwestern United States. The Chicago metropolitan area, often referred to as Chicagoland, has nearly 10 million people and is the third-largest in the U.S.
The city is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation: O'Hare International Airport is the second-busiest airport in the world when measured by aircraft traffic; the region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and rail road freight. The city has one of the world's largest and most diversified economies with no single industry employing more than 14% of the workforce.
In 2015, Chicago had over 52 million international and domestic visitors. Chicago's culture includes the visual arts, novels, film, theater, especially improvisational comedy, and music, particularly jazz, blues, soul, gospel and house music. It also has professional sports teams in each of the major professional leagues. Chicago has many nicknames, the best-known being the Windy City.
Tourism
In 2014, Chicago attracted 50.17 million domestic leisure travelers, 11.09 million domestic business travelers and 1.308 million overseas visitors. These visitors contributed more than US$13.7 billion to Chicago's economy. Upscale shopping along the Magnificent Mile and State Street, thousands of restaurants, as well as Chicago's eminent architecture, continue to draw tourists. The city is the United States' third-largest convention destination.
Sports
The city has two Major League Baseball (MLB) teams: the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. The Chicago Bears, one of the last two remaining charter members of the National Football League (NFL), have won nine NFL Championships, including the 1985 Super Bowl XX. The Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of the most recognized basketball teams in the world. The Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL) began play in 1926, and are one of the Original Six teams of the NHL.
Economy
Chicago is a major world financial center, with the second-largest central business district in the United States. The city is the headquarters of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (the Seventh District of the Federal Reserve). The city has major financial and futures exchanges, including the Chicago Stock Exchange, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Architecture
The destruction caused by the Great Chicago Fire led to the largest building boom in the history of the nation. In 1885, the first steel-framed high-rise building, the Home Insurance Building, rose in the city as Chicago ushered in the skyscraper era, which would then be followed by many other cities around the world. Today, Chicago's skyline is among the world's tallest and most dense.
Cuisine
Chicago lays claim to a large number of regional specialties that reflect the city's ethnic and working-class roots. Included among these are its nationally renowned deep-dish pizza; this style is said to have originated at Pizzeria Uno. The Chicago-style thin crust is also popular in the city.
Infrastructure
Chicago is a major transportation hub in the United States. It is an important component in global distribution, as it is the third-largest inter-modal port in the world after Hong Kong and Singapore.
Cruise of the SOUTH AMERICAN, Chicago to Detroit (c. 1960)
2015.011.027
Silent color 8mm film containing footage shot during a trip on the Chicago, Duluth, and Georgian Bay Transit Company passenger steamer SOUTH AMERICAN from Chicago past Port Huron, followed by brief home movies.
The film begins with the SOUTH AMERICAN in the Chicago River. The Great Lakes Towing Company Tug JOSEPH H. CALLAN is filmed pulling the ship down the Chicago River, people on the shore, the clocktower of the Wrigley Building in Chicago, and the Quebec and Ontario Transportation Company freighter BLACK RIVER, beneath the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Bridge, and into the harbor.
During a sequence presumably shot on Lake Michigan, passengers are shown relaxing in deck chairs. A woman is filmed on deck in the foreground, as the Grays Reef Lighthouse passes in the background. There are also shots of the ship's wake, man gathering rope, a seagull, the ship's sign, a windsock, and a woman sunbathing. There are several views of the Mackinaw Bridge as the ship approaches, then passes beneath it Following some shots of the coast of Mackinaw Island, camera operator films the ship from the shore, and also parts of a horse-drawn carriage ride around the island.
After a cut, the HURON lightship is filmed on duty near Port Huron. The camera captures the view as the SOUTH AMERICAN approaches then passes below the Blue Water Bridge over the St. Clair River. This is followed by footage of the shores along the St. Clair River, including a Bradley Transportation Line freighters, and United States Coast Guard Cutter ACACIA W406, at dock, as well as homes and docks. There's also footage of a tugboat and barge on the river.
The final segment on the film begins with a close-up shot of a branch of flowers positioned on a lawn. A man with a cane and a woman are filmed in a backyard before the rolls ends.
The film is on a blue metal reel housed within a matching blue metal Federal Stores Department canister. A type and handwritten label on the canister's lid provides the title.

5 Most Haunted Places in Chicago Explained by a Ghost Expert and a Historian
Chicago often ranks among the most haunted cities in the United States, but not everyone is a fan of ghost stories. When I asked Northwestern University professor and historian Bill Savage to weigh in, he said, “Chicago is haunted not by ghosts, but by the city’s neglect of the working class.” Whether you believe in the supernatural or not (I’m with Bill), most of Chicago’s enduring ghost stories contain at least a kernel of historical truth. With that in mind, here are the ten “most haunted” sites in the city.

EagleRider Chicago Triumph
Chicago, Illinois is the beginning of Historic Route 66, starting from the bustling metropolis of the Windy city and culminating at the beautiful waters of the Pacific Ocean in Los Angeles, California. The Mississippi River, the Grand Canyon, the Saint Louis Arch—all things you can see on your once-in-a-lifetime motorcycle trip across the heart of America.
Take a motorcycle tour through the greatest city in the world. Catch a baseball game at Chicago’s historic Wrigley Field, then Ride down Lake Shore Drive to see the “Tall Ships” historic sailing vessels exhibit at Navy Pier. Cruise up the “Magnificent Mile” through Chicago’s Gold Coast and stop by Willis (formerly the Sears) Tower—the tallest building in North America—and get a view of four different US states from the 1,353 foot (412m) high observation deck.
Of course, Chicago is just one part of what Illinois has to offer.
Hundreds of rural highways run south and east, affording a beautifully serene view of Indiana’s amber waves of grain, and then take a trip through the winding tree-lined hills of the Illinois River valley to Starved Rock State Park. You can head north into the thickly wooded Kettle Moraine Valley and see the world-renowned dairy farms of Wisconsin, or tour the Great Lakes in all their splendor with a trip around Lake Michigan—the 3rd largest lake in North America.
The reasons for motorcycle rental can be even simpler than that. Why pay money for a boring sedan, when you can ride a motorcycle instead? Got a friend visiting from out of town? Rent a pair of bikes and show them around. These are just a handful of the limitless ways in which EagleRider of Chicago can help you plan the perfect trip.

When a superhero gets hungry and needs to refuel, only authentic BBQ will do. Luckily Chicago Q in the Gold Coast neighborhood is a mere leap away. Smoked chicken, award winning ribs, brisket, and Jalapeno hushpuppies are a delicious way to keep your energy up. The wood burning smoker and house made rubs make for some of the best BBQ in the city. The hearty portions are sure to satisfy any appetite while the well-chosen cocktail, beer, and wine lists have caused many a weary parent to exclaim my hero!
Chicago Q
1160 N. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60610
Save room for dessert, because Edgewater is home to the super delicious Lickity Split Frozen Custard & Sweets. This cheery and welcoming sweet shop features shakes, malts, floats, sundaes, & concretes with a variety of mix-in flavors & toppings. I always get the Crazy Cake, usually a Red Velvet cupcake, including the icing, mixed in with the custard flavor of your choice. If you aren't in the mood for custard, the retro candy selection, cookies, & pastries should do the trick! Lickity Split partners with neighboring small businesses to keep things as local as possible so you can support the community and satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time--- definitely the work of a superhero.

Driving Downtown Streets - Euclid Avenue - Cleveland Ohio USA - Episode 68
Starting Point: .
Euclid Avenue is a major street in Cleveland, Ohio. It received nationwide attention from the 1860s to the 1920s for its beauty and wealth, including a string of mansions that came to be known as Millionaires' Row. There are several theaters, banks, and churches along Euclid, as well as Cleveland's oldest extant building, the Dunham Tavern. A large reconstruction project, which brought a bus rapid transit line to the street, was completed in 2008.
The street passes Playhouse Square, the University Circle, Cleveland State University, the Cleveland Clinic, Severance Hall, Tifereth Israel (The Temple), Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center. The HealthLine bus rapid transit line runs in designated bus lanes in the median of Euclid Avenue from Public Square to Louis Stokes Station at Windermere in East Cleveland.
Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, approximately 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of the Pennsylvania border. It was founded in 1796 near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location on the lake shore, as well as being connected to numerous canals and railroad lines. Cleveland's economy has diversified sectors that include manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, and biomedical. Cleveland is also home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Tourism
Five miles (8.0 km) east of downtown Cleveland is University Circle, a 550-acre (2.2 km2) concentration of cultural, educational, and medical institutions, including the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals, Severance Hall, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Western Reserve Historical Society. A 2011 study by Walk Score ranked Cleveland 17th most walkable of fifty largest U.S. cities. Cleveland is home to the I. M. Pei-designed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, located on the Lake Erie waterfront at North Coast Harbor downtown. Neighboring attractions include Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Great Lakes Science Center, the Steamship Mather Museum, and the USS Cod, a World War II submarine. Cleveland has an attraction for visitors and fans of A Christmas Story: A Christmas Story House and Museum to see props, costumes, rooms, photos and other materials related to the Jean Shepherd film. Cleveland is home to many festivals throughout the year. Cultural festivals such as the annual Feast of the Assumption in the Little Italy neighborhood, the Harvest Festival in the Slavic Village neighborhood, and the more recent Cleveland Asian Festival in the Asia Town neighborhood are popular events. Vendors at the West Side Market in Ohio City offer many different ethnic foods for sale. Cleveland hosts an annual parade on Saint Patrick's Day that brings hundreds of thousands to the streets of downtown.
Fashion Week Cleveland, the city's annual fashion event, is the third-largest fashion show of its kind in the United States. In addition to the cultural festivals, Cleveland hosted the CMJ Rock Hall Music Fest, which featured national and local acts, including both established artists and up-and-coming acts, but the festival was discontinued in 2007 due to financial and manpower costs to the Rock Hall. The annual Ingenuity Fest, Notacon and TEDxCLE conference focus on the combination of art and technology. The Cleveland International Film Festival has been held annually since 1977, and it drew a record 66,476 people in March 2009. Cleveland also hosts an annual holiday display lighting and celebration, dubbed Winterfest, which is held downtown at the city's historic hub, Public Square.
Cleveland also has the Jack Cleveland Casino. Phase I opened on May 14, 2012, on Public Square, in the historic former Higbee's Building at Tower City Center. Phase II will open along the bend of the Cuyahoga River behind Tower City Center.
The new Greater Cleveland Aquarium is on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River near Downtown.

The Truth Behind Those $1 Detroit Homes
Downtown Detroit is seeing a revitalization of sorts sparked by Dan Gilbert's $1 billion investment in the area. Since 2010, Gilbert's investment has created an estimated 6,500 jobs in downtown, and, as a result, it's nearly impossible to find a vacant apartment as residential occupancy rates reached as high as 99.4% for the downtown area.
But what about the rest of the city? You can buy a bunch of homes outside of downtown Detroit for under $500 and some are even listed at just $1.
Problem is: these prices are incredibly misleading. The homes are in abysmal condition and there are few city services in and around these neighborhoods.
Detroit realtor John Lewis took us to the Brightmoor neighborhood to show us what these $1 Detroit homes are really like.

How JP Morgan Chase Became The Largest Bank In The US
From the railroad and steel consolidations brokered by John Pierpont Morgan on Wall Street more than a century ago, to banking consolidation, the financial crisis and Jamie Dimon's leadership, J.P. Morgan Chase has been at the center of finance for more than a century. Here's the story of how the country's largest bank got to where it is today.
Biographer of J.P. Morgan Jean Strouse, longtime bank analyst Mike Mayo and CNBC banking reporter Hugh Son help tell the story. You’ll learn about how Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton are part of the bank’s history, along with the first ATM, and the company’s position moving forward into the future of digital banking.
Watch the video above to see how the country’s largest bank got to where it is today.
***Clarification*** Since 2004, investors in JPM stock have outperformed the bank stock index by an average of 6% return every year. That's more than 6x the return of the index yearly (13:52)
In February, J.P. Morgan Chase announced it was in growth mode, expanding its branch network to cover 93 percent of the U.S. population by the end of 2022.
The aggressive growth plans will allow it to reach 80 million more consumers, or about one-quarter of the U.S. population, versus its footprint in 2018, the New York-based bank says.
The expansion of physical branches comes amid a consumer shift to mobile and online banking. The average number of teller transactions per customer has plunged 41 percent since 2014, according to J.P. Morgan's presentation at its investor day meeting.
But convenient branch locations are a key consideration for people thinking about switching banks, and most of the firm's growth in deposits has been fueled by people who use branches frequently, the bank said.
The company made it clear it had flexibility in its growth plans: More than 75 percent of its branches could be shuttered within five years or kept open for more than a decade.
