I spend the afternoon following yet another 4WD track of New Zealand. The Skippers Canyon road dives into the back country of Queenstown. I Follow the old gold miners road to the settlement and show just what an amazing place this is. Perfect spot for that weekend getaway with the family or friends.

It's only a short drive off the main road to get onto the edge of Ruapehu. Boy what a place to explore! I recommend this spot to anyone driving by. The little TJ Wrangler ate the track up, but of-course its easy enough for any 4WD vehicle. Definitely one I will be returning to.

About 15 Kilometres each way with a lot of river crossings across the Arrow River.
We did go up further than last time when we did the trip with Nomad Safaris and we came down another part of the river as opposed to back down the entire track, but that was only about a 2Km difference.
According to the little booklet from Arrowtown Museum there are several side tracks that can also be taken. For a couple of dollars the little booklet has some good information about the old road.

The New Zealand Timber Trail is one of the best cycle trails in New Zealand and a must-do North Island bike trail. We rent bikes and use the shuttle service with Epic Cycle Adventures.
