The Old Quarter of Hanoi- Loud, Fire-hazard, Dysfunction
The loud and super busy old quarter of Hanoi, Vietnam. Check out the cobweb of wires overhead and constant flow of traffic -- for more.
The Portrait Artiste of the Old Quarter
A tribute to one of Hanoi's most prolific portrait artiste Mr. Nguyen Bao Nguyen of the Old Quarter. I met Mr. Bao Nguyen as I walked into 47 Hang Ngang Street and his attention for detail captured my imagination. We had a quick chat and then a unique video portrait of the portrait artiste conducting a self-portrait of himself was simply Bliss! His passion is keeping memories alive.

Addressing Birth Defects Caused by Agent Orange in Vietnam
Learn more:
A U.S. pediatrician Mark Rapoport discusses what should be done to help children affect by dioxin poisoning in Vietnam in what was a legacy of Agent Orange spraying by the U.S. military in the 1960s and 1970s.
During the war, American forces sprayed nearly two million gallons of Agent Orange across Vietnam's forests in an attempt to steal cover from insurgent forces that lurked in the dense jungle. More than three decades after the Vietnam War ended, the Vietnamese people continue to live with the consequences of Agent Orange, a defoliant that has come to symbolize the unintended consequences of warfare.

Vietnam Visions - Textiles
Colorful Vietnamese textiles - silks, weavings, embroidery, cloth, yarn, sequined patterned reams of material - from busy, crowded markets throughout Vietnam are highlighted here as well as the people who create, sell, and carry the cloth out of which so many fashions around the world are made. See the silk go from worms to market. See the beautiful abstract patterns colorful textiles of all materials make when viewed together and up close.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Hanoi (UK: ha-, hə-NOY, US: hah-NOY; Vietnamese: Hà Nội [hàː nôjˀ] (listen)) is Vietnam's capital and second largest city by population (7.7 million in 2015). The city mostly lies on the right bank of the Red River. Hanoi is 1,720 km (1,070 mi) north of Ho Chi Minh City and 105 km (65 mi) west of Haiphong.
From 1010 until 1802, it was the most important political centre of Vietnam. It was eclipsed by Huế, the imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802–1945). In 1873 Hanoi was conquered by the French. From 1883 to 1945, the city was the administrative center of the colony of French Indochina. The French built a modern administrative city south of Old Hanoi, creating broad, perpendicular tree-lined avenues of opera, churches, public buildings, and luxury villas, but they also destroyed large parts of the city, shedding or reducing the size of lakes and canals, while also clearing out various imperial palaces and citadels.
From 1940 to 1945 Hanoi, as well as most of French Indochina and Southeast Asia, was occupied by the Japanese empire. On September 2, 1945, Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam). The Vietnamese National Assembly under Ho Chi Minh decided on January 6, 1946, to make Hanoi the capital of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. From 1954 to 1976, it was the capital of North Vietnam, and it became the capital of a reunified Vietnam in 1976, after the North's victory in the Vietnam War.
October 2010 officially marked 1,000 years since the establishment of the city. The Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural is a 6.5 km (4.0 mi) ceramic mosaic mural created to mark the occasion.
On July 16, 1999, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) presented the title “City for Peace” to Hanoi.
AmaWaterways Excursion to Angkor Wat, Cambdia on Mekong River Cruise thru Vietnam & Cambodia
AmaWaterways Excursion to Ankgor Wat, Cambodia during Vietnam-Cambodia Mekong River Cruise going from Hanoi to Saigon that includes everything in between like ancient ruins, beautiful lakes, river tributaries, small villages, factories, museums, shopping and more as documented by travel filmmaker Clint Denn. Angkor Wat is the largest Hindu at first, then Buddhist temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world. The temple was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yasodharapura present-day Angkor), the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaivism tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation -- first Hindu, then Buddhist.[citation needed] The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.
Angkor Wat combines two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture: the temple mountain and the later galleried temple, based on early Dravidian Architecture, with key features such as the Jagati. It is designed to represent Mount Meru, home of the devas in Hindu mythology: within a moat and an outer wall 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi) long are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next. At the centre of the temple stands a quincunx of towers. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat is oriented to the west; scholars are divided as to the significance of this. The temple is admired for the grandeur and harmony of the architecture, its extensive bas-reliefs, and for the numerous devatas adorning its walls.
