8 House (Danish: 8 Tallet), also known as Big House, is a large mixed-use development built in the shape of a figure 8 on the southern perimeter of the new suburb of Ørestad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Designed by Bjarke Ingels, founding partner of the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the bow-shaped building consists of 61,000 square metres of three different types of residential housing and 10,000 square metres of retail premises and offices. It is the largest private development ever undertaken in Denmark. Commissioned by Store Frederikslund Holding, Høpfner A/S and Danish Oil Company A/S in 2006, it is Ingels' third housing development in Ørestad, following VM Houses and Mountain Dwellings.SUBSCRIBE to the channel!

8 House is a 61,000 square meter bowtie-shaped mixed-use building of three different types of residential housing and 10,000 square meters of retail and offices which comprise Denmark’s largest private development ever undertaken. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), 8 House sits on the outer edge of Copenhagen as the southernmost outpost of Ørestad. 8 House stacks all ingredients of a lively urban neighborhood into horizontal layers of typologies connected by a continuous promenade and cycling path up to the 10th floor, creating a three-dimensional urban neighborhood where suburban life merges with the energy of a big city.

With spectacular views towards the Copenhagen Canal and over Kalvebod Fælled's protected, open spaces, 8 House not only offers residences to people in all of life’s stages as well as office spaces to the city’s business and trade – it also serves as a house that allows people to bike all the way from the ground floor to the top, moving alongside townhouses with gardens winding through an urban perimeter block. Two 32 degree-sloping green roofs are strategically placed to reduce the urban heat island effect as well as provide the visual identity to the project and tying it back to the adjacent farmlands towards the south. Using pre-vegetated mats from Veg Tech AS, the build-up is about 4 cm, which includes an installed irrigation system. In addition, 100 individual semi-intensive, 1-square meter gardens with planters from ZinCo were planted on the terraces, installed by MALMOS. Originally, the entire roof was designed as a continuous green roof, yet due to the economic climate only the lower portions were greened. The shape of the building allows for daylighting and natural ventilation for all units. In addition, rainwater is collected and repurposed through a stormwater management system. 8 House is unique not only because it reduces the urban heat island effect with its cool courtyards, planted trees at entrances, container plantings on the balconies, and 18,300-square foot green roofs, but the living roofs visually connect back to its pre-construction site on the prairie fields, creating a true sense of spirit of place.

Museet for Søfart - Maritime Museum of Denmark - Søfartsmuseum

Præsentation af Danmarks flotte nye søfartsmuseum i Helsingør, og dele af den permanente udstilling, der som noget nyt tager udgangspunkt i den søfarende. Det sker i en prægtig audiovisuel oplevelse, som understøttes af de fascinerende rammer. Museet er tegnet af BIG, Bjarke Ingels Group, og for ikke at forstyrre udsigten til Kronborg Slot, er museet bygget under jorden, i og omkring en gammel tørdok fra det tidligere Helsingør Værft.

Presentation of Denmark's new fascinating maritime museum in Elsinore, and the permanent exhibition, which as something new, is based on the concept of the seafarer. The result is an impressive audio-visual experience, supported by the astounding building, designed by BIG, the Bjarke Ingels Group. In order to preserve the view of Kronborg or Elsinore Castle, the museum is constructed below ground level, in and around, an old dry dock of the former Elsinore Shipyard.

8-Tallet i Ørestad Syd

8-Tallet by architect Bjarke Ingels and the company BIG is being build in Ørestad Syd, Copenhagen, Denmark. The residential building will consist of more than 500 town houses and apartments.

BIG opens Copenhill power plant topped with rooftop ski slope in Copenhagen

BIG has completed the cleanest waste-to-energy power plant in the world in Copenhagen, Denmark, which is topped by an artificial ski slope that is open all year round.

CopenHill, also known as Amager Bakke, is a power plant located on an industrial waterfront that is capable of converting 440,000 tons of waste into clean energy annually.

It was designed by BIG to double as public infrastructure, and is complete with tree-lined hiking trails and ski slopes on its roof along with the tallest artificial climbing wall in the world on its facade.

Assistens Cemetary Copenhagen Denmark

Assistens kirkegård is a big cemetary outside the lakes of the central Copenhagen. It was made when the smaller churchyards in the center of the city became too small.
Now a days it serves both as cemetary and a recreational area which makes it unique in Europe.
The writer Hans Christian Andersen and the philosopher Søren Kierkegaard are both burried here.

Staying in a tiny home in Copenhagen, Denmark!

I’ve always wanted to stay in a tiny home and found one just a 15 minute bike ride outside of the city center. It’s a perfect little get away from the hustle of the city and happy with my little splurge! As a backpacker with just a few belongings, this place is making me rethink what possessions I actually need.
