The 30-foot high bronze sculpture commemorating the event and honoring the memories of the victims is composed of a waving American flag transformed into a memorial flame. The monument rests on a base of gray granite, part of which comes from the original Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan, destroyed in the mammoth airliner attack eight years ago. The sculpture, which was funded by the Bronka Stavsky Rabin Weintraub Trust, is surrounded by a circular, crater-like plaza and reflection area tiled in stone.
The Jerusalem monument is one of the first major international memorials to mark the terrible event and honor the memory of its victims -- and the only site outside of New York to recognize the names of every victim of the attack.
Memorial donor and native New Yorker Edward Blank explained that he funded the project as a means of expressing the myriad conflicting feelings he struggled with after the tragedy. My wife died just a few days before 9/11, he said, and then the whole world was sent reeling by the events of that day. I was looking for a meritorious way to recognize the many feelings I was having, and this memorial was the perfect fit.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel James Cunningham attended the ceremony dedicating the monument, as did U.S. Congressman Erik Paulsen, who led a delegation from the United States. They were joined by Israeli Cabinet ministers, Knesset members and many families of the victims of 9/11, as well as other distinguished guests.
מק הארזים הוקמה אנדרטה לזכר אסון מגדלי התאומים, האנדרטה מעוצבת בצורה מרשימה וממוקמת על גבעה הצופה על כל סביבותיה.

New Zealand’s Memorial to the Missing in Israel
There are thirteen New Zealand New Zealand Memorials to the Missing located in Turkey, France, Belgium, Egypt and in Israel.
They stand in commemoration of those soldiers with no known grave. These memorials were placed in or near battlefields where the soldiers were lost and many were designed specifically for the location.
The Memorial to the Missing at Jerusalem War Cemetery commemorates 3316 Commonwealth servicemen with no known graves, including 60 New Zealanders.
At the centre of the memorial, the chapel forms a unique tribute to the men of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and was unveiled on 7 May 1927 by Lord Allenby and Sir James Parr.
The intricate mosaic, designed by British artist Robert Anning Bell, is bordered by a Māori tāniko pattern protecting the wairua, or spirit, of the chapel.
Angels feature above the altar and four figures representing Hope, Humanity, Faith and Patriotism flank the dedication to New Zealand soldiers headed by a fernleaf.
“From the uttermost ends of the earth”
“In honour of the members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who took part in the operations Sinai Palestine 1916 – 1918”.

US ambassador to Israel marks 11th anniversary of 9/11
(11 Sep 2012) Marking the 11-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on Tuesday, US ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro said an Iran armed with a nuclear weapon is an unacceptable threat and that the US will not permit it to be realised.
Israel has been pushing for the international community to give Iran clear red lines with regard to the disputed programme, which Tehran insists is for peaceful purposes only.
Israeli leaders have been hinting at a possible military strike to stop Iran from acquiring an atomic weapon.
The US says sanctions and diplomacy should be given more time.
The US ambassador, along with ambassadors from around the world and members of the families of the Israeli victims of 9/11, held a memorial ceremony at a monument created for the victims on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
Among the speakers was Dov Shefi, father of 9/11 victim Hagai Shefi, who said he hoped the free world will continue to fight against leaders of terrorist organisations and their supporters.
The monument is a 30-foot-high bronze sculpture of a US flag that morphs into a memorial flame.
It rests on a grey granite base which included a metal beam from the original Twin Towers.

THE 9/11 MEMORIAL
So on our final day in New York City, we visited the 9//1 memorial.
Its a very interesting place to visit.
A very emotional place, with lots of people paying their respects.
More information on 9/11;
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum (also known as the 9/11 Memorial and 9/11 Memorial Museum) are the principal memorial and museum, respectively. They commemorate the September 11, 2001 attacks, which killed 2,977 victims, and the World Trade Center bombing of 1993, which killed six. The memorial is located at the World Trade Center site, the former location of the Twin Towers, which were destroyed during the September 11 attacks. It is operated by a non-profit corporation whose mission is to raise funds for, program, own, and operate the memorial and museum at the World Trade Center site.
A memorial was planned in the immediate aftermath of the attacks and destruction of the World Trade Center for the victims including those involved in rescue operations. The winner of the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition was Israeli architect Michael Arad of Handel Architects, a New York- and San Francisco-based firm. Arad worked with landscape-architecture firm Peter Walker and Partners on the design, a forest of trees with two square pools in the center where the Twin Towers stood. In August 2006, the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began heavy construction on the memorial and museum. The design is consistent with the original Daniel Libeskind master plan, which called for the memorial to be 30 feet (9.1 m) below street level—originally 70 feet (21 m)—in a plaza, and was the only finalist to disregard Libeskind's requirement that the buildings overhang the footprints of the Twin Towers. The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation was renamed the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in 2007.
On September 11, 2011, a dedication ceremony commemorating the tenth anniversary of the attacks was held at the memorial. It opened to the public the following day; the museum was dedicated on May 15, 2014 and opened on May 21. Three months after its opening, the memorial had been visited by over a million people. In 2012, the 9/11 Tribute Center collaborated with the 9/11 Memorial to offer private tours, which are hosted by family members of victims, first responders, and survivors.
