Venice Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
The Italian city of Venice is a city like no other, rising from the waters of Venice Lagoon. Follow us through the historic streets – and canals – and see why Venice should be firmly on your bucket list!
When ready, browse vacation packages to Venice:
Begin your #Venice #vacation in the central district of San Marco. Journey along one of the world’s great aquatic thoroughfares, The Grand Canal. Glide past elegant palazzos; today many of these palaces house important museums and galleries.
Known as The City Of Bridges, Venice has hundreds to discover. The Accademia Bridge offers some of the Grand Canal’s finest views. The oldest of the Grand Canal’s four crossings is the Rialto Bridge, which serves as the gateway to the Rialto Markets. The most famous of all is the Bridge of Sighs, which connects Doge’s Palace to the historic prison.
Venice is a city to get lost in, so put away your map and let her surprise you. Just remember, this city smiles upon those who linger. So stay for a few nights, or #explore for a month, and savor every moment she has to offer.

Our visit Venice travel guide covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to local Italian food, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day and by night including visiting cathedrals, canals, ruins and islands. We cover activities you won't find in a typical Venice tourism brochure, Venice itinerary or Venice, Italy city tour also known as Venezia Italia.
20 Things to do in Venice, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (VENEZIA ITALIA):
We’re taking you on a whirlwind tour of Venice in winter visiting the famed Floating City. Join us as we show you the best things to see, do and eat in Venice.
The Vaporetto is Venice’s water bus service. The standard ticket is 7.50 Euros and valid for 60 minutes, the 1 day pass is 20 Euros and valid for 24 hours.
The most visited attraction in Venice: Piazza San Marco where there is quite a bit to see and do around the square beginning with St Mark’s Basilica.
St Mark’s Campanile, a tall brick bell tower was once used by approaching ships as a beacon to guide them home where you get great views of the city.
Then you have the Doge’s Palace, which was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the ruler of the former Republic of Venice built in the Venetian Gothic style.
Don't forget the Bridge of SIghs, whose name refers to the sighs of prisoners who would get their last glimpse of Venice as they were led from Doge's Palace to their cells.
Across to the other side of the Grand Canal, you have the Basilica of Saint Mary of Health and the Galleria dell’Accademia in case you’re in the mood for art.
A restaurant we really enjoyed La Zucca - a place where all the dishes are made with pumpkin! The Rialto Market specializes in produce and fresh seafood for self-catering.
Let’s talk about island hopping in Venice:
Founded in the 5th century, Torcello is even older than Venice and was the original settlement in the Venetian Lagoon with lots of walking paths, nature and Byzantine mosaics.
Burano is known for its lace work and brightly coloured homes with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops to browse.
Mazzorbo island sits next to Burano and is connected by a bridge while being known for its vineyards and orchards.
Murano is renowned for its glass production dating back to 1291 when the glassmakers in Venice were forced to relocate by the Venetian government.
Lido is an 11-kilometre sandbar island that shelters the lagoon from the Adriatic Sea with beaches, lots of seaside homes, and this is also where the Venice Film Festival takes place.
A restaurant we liked in Venice is Osteria Mocenigo specializing in local cuisine. Try the “Sarde in saor” - a typical Venetian dish made with sardines.
While your vaporetto pass is valid ride the canals at night and watch the Floating City come to life.
We hope you enjoyed this Venice travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas for your own trip.

Can Italy's iconic Venice be saved from destructive floods? | Focus on Europe
The recent aqua alta, as regular flooding in Venice is known, has heavily damaged St. Mark's Basilica and the iconic square on which it stands, as well as other churches and several palaces. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro blamed climate change. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte called the flooding a blow to the heart of Italy. Local residents are upset that a hugely-expensive Mose flood barrier, which was begun in 2003, is still not complete. Can the flood control project be finished in time to save one of Italy's greatest treasures?

dear friends,
I am SO happy SOOO SOSOOSOOOOO happy to bring you this vlog. I truly cherished and squeezed every bit of enjoyment while editing. travel vlogs are always extra special to me because I'm trying to freeze moments in time, these shared memories with my mom and sister that I can now look back on forever. It means a lot that many of you said you were excited and looking forward to seeing it.
well, it's here! as usual, it seems to take forever. but I believe this is my second longest vlog ever, and certainly the vlog I've spent the most on.
I know some people will be outraged that I've placed so many ads breaks on this video, but I'd like to explain that I believe they're proportionate to the amount of time spent on it. I think I've totaled over 50 hours now? I know it doesn't seem so, but I edit frame by frame, and in this particular video, I color corrected every clip manually to make it the best that I can. It should hopefully just be enjoyable and easy to watch, as it shouldn't be super obvious all the details I carried out in order to make the visuals and audio seamless.
I work super hard on these, and yes I think it's super worth it! as much as I love sharing them with you all, it's also a big passion of mine just to edit. A large portion of my time as a youtuber is spent in post-processing, editing privately. And I've brought back the joy in that again, as I told you I want to do things that I'm happy with.
As for the trip- there's so much more I want to tell you! I realize that the entire time, I rarely talked and the vlog is mainly a music video lol. So I tried to make up for it with captions, but there's still a lot that I feel I could tell you in case you're ever going to visit venice.
This was a very improvisational trip, because we had to leave for it as soon as my sister graduated. I truly felt like I didn't get enough time to research or prepare for the vacation and that resulted in some mishaps. The reason we had to come out right away was because my sister had a 2 week gap between her graduation day and when her summer classes at RISD start. That pretty much sealed our window of time. She's taking some classes as her last credits to finish her degree, by the way. almost there!
So I've been working on this since yesterday afternoon, was up until 8am and slept 3 or so hours before crawling up to publish. I feel quite awake, weirdly, and I'm gonna get a nice slice of toast and my morning coffee after this. I wanted to get this done before I leave for TORONTO tomorrow! I'm so excited to be back already. I'm planning a meetup for tuesday, 7/23, DM me on my instagram if you're around!
I love you so much, and I want you to know how much I appreciate your viewership and also the comments. I always read every single one, and I also screenshot and keep onto them because our connection is so endearing sometimes. I know that youtube is not a forever thing, certainly in my life. But nevertheless, the now, and every connection and friendship I've made along the way is irreplaceable.
Gonna scurry off now, I'm going to work on my site that I launched this week. check it out if you haven't already! it's a little shop that is still in progress, and I hope to get some other types of merch in there soon.
pyperbleu.com
let me know what your favorite part of the vlog was :-) if you enjoyed it, please give it a thumbs up for me and (in my understanding), that helps me float in the youtube algorithm.
see you soon, and take care.
All my love,
Annabelle

Visit Venice - 5 Vital Tips for Visiting Venice, Italy
Heading to Venice on Vacation & Want a bit more insider information on this amazing island city? Here we have 5 quick tips to help travelers get the most out of visiting Venice, Italy. With over 20 million visitors a year Venice is quite popular, but let us help you figure out a few things you should know before you go to Venice.
1. Be Prepared to Get Lost: wandering the back alleys and canals is vital for enjoying Venice, Italy. However, some tourists might get a bit scared not being on a popular tourist route. Well with tons of signs and locals that know tourists get lost you won't be lost long (it is an island after all). So grab a map and still get lost enjoying those amazing hidden squares and cafes.
2. Pack Your Patience: with 20 million tourists Venice is inundated with tourists all parts of the years (especially in summer). So be prepared to wait in line for sights, wait for restauratns, fight through crowds to go over the Railto bridge etc.
3. Don't Expect The Greatest Italian Food: with all of the tourists that come not all the restaurants try their hardest. They know tons more tourists are coming the next day. So ask one of the locals for some local places to try some local food and you will be better off.
4. Dress Modestly: some of the churches will not let you in to visit their collections if you are not dressed appropriately.
5. There Is More Than Just The Venice Island in Venice: go explore some of the outlying islands like Murano where you can see the glass blowers, or visit the beaches just outside of town in the warmer months. Also, you can save a lot of money staying in Mestre instead of on the island of Venice.
