Paella vs Fideuà taste test in Madrid, Spain Travel Video Transcript:
So it is dinner time in Madrid and today we are here at a local restaurant where we're going to be trying two different dishes. We are planning to eat Paella and something called Fideuà. They are two dishes from the region of Valencia. And there are some similarities and some differences between the two so we'll be showing you those as soon as the plates arrive.
The food has arrived. Yes, some I'm going introduce mine first. I am having the Fideua, which is kind of like a noodle Paella, and it is made with Vermicelli noodles which are super thin and mine has mussels, prawns and squid as well as artichoke hearts so let's take a big bite of this.
It's hot.
That is really nice.
Wow.
You can really taste the seafood. It is super flavorful. And I also like that the noodles are a little bit overcooked. Like they are nice and soggy, which is how I like them. So I'm quite happy with my meal so far.
Okay, so your mixed Paella has arrived. Tell us about it. Yeah, the Paella is finally here. So the mixed Paella has a whole bunch of different things. Let's take a look down at it. So you can see that there is chicken, we've got shrimp, we've got other kinds of seafood, we've got peas and it has got kind of a looks like to be a yellow type of curry sauce. Nice.
So let's take the first bite here.
This is my favorite Spanish food. The thing I like about it so much is that you have all of these different ingredients and it just has such a flavorful sauce on top of the rice. It is just so good.
So if Sam were to try the traditional Paella from Valencia that one would actually have chicken and rabbit because that is what the original recipe calls for. But we're not really used to eating rabbit so that is why we went with the mixed one that has chicken, some seafood and chorizo.
So quite a few restaurants in Madrid, and all throughout Spain have Paella on the menu, but the ones that really specialize in it have a special kind of pan. Some come take a look here. And you can see that it is made right in it and brought to your table. And they have the wooden guards on the end that basically probably protect you from getting burnt. Exactly.
Well, we certainly polished that off. So now let's talk about the price. Yeah, that was nice and filling. So in terms of price it can vary widely. In more expensive kind of like gourmet restaurants that really specialize in it we've seen it go up to thirty or thirty five Euros. We've never actually ate somewhere like that. The place we went to was eleven Euros. And we thought it was a really good value. We're both really full now. And I've also seen it as an appetizer in some smaller types of restaurants and you can expect maybe to pay seven or eight Euros for that.
This is part of our Travel in Spain series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Spanish culture, Spanish arts, Spanish foods, Spanish religion, Spanish cuisine and Spanish people.

Madrid, Spain ???????? 2018, Weekend food tour!
This summer I went to Madrid, Spain for the weekend. The trip was mostly to taste my way around Madrid!
Having landed very late and arriving at the hotel in the early hours of the morning, my brother and I went to San Gines as it's open 24hrs. The following day we went to Sala de despiece (I don't know how to pronounce this restaurant) for lunch and had their tasting menu. Then dinner was a walking historical food tour with our guide, Rafa.
On the day we left, we had brunch at Habanera.
All the places we visited are in the following links.
I appreciate all the love and support you have shown me. And a new vlog will be dropping soon.

One More Taste of Spain - Real Homemade Paella
I thought I would share the process of making real Spanish paella at home in Spain. The beginning of this video is our grandson with his wonderful Spanish grandpa or yayo, Pepe. The paella cooking starts after the beach scene. I have not had the pleasure of eating Luisi's (yaya) paella yet. I guess we just have not been there at the right time. We've eaten plenty but I hear Luisi's is the best. They were celebrating the wedding anniversary.

2. Which Spanish Beer Tastes Best? ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
There is a lot of debate in Spain about which Spanish beer is the best. And this is intensified by the fact that each region has its own beer. So of course, the Spaniards from that region tend to think their beer is the top lager!
But Yoly (supertaster!) and I decided it was time to decide once and for which of the Spanish beers tastes the best. We set up this totally blind tasting. And in the tasting we tasted Mahou (Madrid), Cruzcampo (Seville), Alhambra (Granada), San Miguel (Barcelona), Moritz (Barcelona), Estrella Damm (Barcelona), Estrella Galicia (Barcelona), and Amstel (all over Spain). And to make it a little more interesting, we threw in a couple of wild cards… an alcohol-free beer (Mahou Sin) and a supermarket brand beer (Aliada).
Which was the winner?
You’ll have to watch to find out!!

A Taste Of...El Retiro, Madrid, Spain (Zhiyun Crane Plus test)
So we received the Zhiyun Crane Plus the other day which is an amazing tool to add to our slowing growing set-up. Due to bad weather we've not had the chance to give it a good go but you will be seeing a lot more of it in the up and coming projects we have on the way.
Making travel videos by it's very nature means you have to shoot a ton of footage. We can't use everything in a 12 minute video so the majority of the videos are left on the cutting room floor, which is a damn shame. So we're embarking on a new series called A Taste Of... in which we will delivery cinematic short videos of towns, villages, bars etc We aim to show off our more creative side as well as put good unused footage to good use.
we hope you enjoy it!

2. MADRID’S BEST TORTILLAS DE PATATAS ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
My perfect tortilla de patatas recipe!
It’s got a lot of names. Tortilla de patatas, Spanish tortilla, tortilla española! But in the end it all boils down to perhaps the simplest, most famous and most controversial of Spanish dishes.
Do you like it with or without onion? Do you like it runny? If so, how runny? Where is the best place? Is your mother’s tortilla really the best?
Well, Yoly and I decided to settle one thing at least - and that is to decide which is the best tortilla de patatas in Madrid. So he headed to 5 tapas bars famous for their tortilla to decide.
Where did we go?
1. Bar Cerveriz. This is a family run bar run by Carlos and his wife Maria Angeles right opposite the famous San Miguel market. And Carlos is a tortilla wizard. To be honest, this is my go to place for tortilla. Plus, he let us into the kitchen to see how he makes the tortilla!
2. Juana La Loca. This is extremely popular bar serves pinchos which are Basque style tapas. And they also have an excellent tortilla. I used to think it was too sweet, but today is surprised me!
3. Bodega La Ardosa. This place is a classic! And is always so busy! It’s over 100 years old, in the 70s they started making a tortilla de patatas that put them on the map!
4. Taberna Pedraza. A family-run joint in the wealthy Salamanca barrio, this place is famous for making the Betanzos style tortilla… which famously has no onion. And you can only get the whole tortilla - not a pincho. Also, check out the tortilla counter!
5. Casa Dani. Ok, now we’re getting serious. This place was awarded the best tortilla in Spain award this year. It’s in the Mercado de la Paz and it’s famous. And we’ll find out if the title was deserved!!
