★McManis Wine Review 1
Amanda gives the 2017 Petite Sirah a good review. deep purple in color, with an exceptionally bright hue. The nose is filled with ripe blackberry, toffee and a bit of clove. Flavors of juicy dark berry fruit are abundant. The round dense wine has a mocha finish which is absent of any astringency. Let’s be honest Amanda just likes the screw top and alcohol.

The 2012 mixed dozen contains many new exciting wines that have graced the wine room over the past few months and we have chosen new releases that have stood out for their fresh and bright style - in other words, perfect for summer. There is enough to excite everyone!
They have wines from the Northern end with its emphasis on riper flavours such as citrus and pineapple characters, through to the central valley with its elevated lime floral notes, and onto the southern and western end, which show great minerality coupled with lime zest herbaceousness.
Only available to mailing list customers, this is a fabulous chance to sample the stunning 2012 Eden Valley Rieslings. Some of these Rieslings have not hit the streets yet, and many will not for another year or two. This is a great opportunity to be the first to try them.
This mixed dozen can be yours for only $300

Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Extraordinary! Everything you want in a Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon.
Tastes like a high end wine. Majestic, powerful, bright, masculine, tannic.
We are currently selling for $10 less than the winery for this bottle of wine!

We recommend trying with traditional chimichurri:
Wine tasting 101- EP 4 - Site introduction
Apparently, this is one of the most overlooked aspects of tasting wine. So, the “don't judge a book by its cover,” does not apply to wine.
Now… what do you look for when analysing the wine’s appearance?
White wine can range from clear to golden yellow.
Red wines can range from pink to almost black.
A quick inspection of a glass of wine can reveal a good deal of information concerning a wine's age, cellaring conditions, wine making methods (vinification), Identity and Terrior.
According to the pros, things to look out for are:
Clarity,
Brightness,
Colour,
Rim variation,
Sediment and
Leggs. Yes, Leggs.
A quick heads up for the next chapter:
Clarity: is the wine clear? Is it hazy? If the wine is clear odds are it's been filtered. Yes, we want organic, unprocessed, un tainted, but we get nervous when we don't see clear, bright sparkly things. So, grow a pair of balls, let go of your need for crystal glasses and perfectly shaped strawberries and get your hands dirty. Or should we say, don't be afraid of the hazy, mirky wines.
Check out the next episode where I take a deep dive into the look of wine.
InTheCellar - Down Under with Aussie Wines!
With a New World winemaking tradition that mirrors the United States, Australia produces unique wines at great value prices from Shiraz & Cabernet to Chardonnay, Riesling and more... join us for ten minutes of education and fun tasting Marquee Australian Wines with wine expert Christopher Cribb and Bonnie Rabicoff - Host & Food Expert of In the Kitchen With Bonnie!
In our fourth episode of In the Cellar, we move to the Southern Hemisphere and explore two Aussie wines from Marquee that have won outstanding international acclaim and showcase the bright tropical fruit, minimal intervention winemaking and artisan care that are the hallmarks to the Marquee portfolio. The first wine is a Riesling from the high county in the province of Victoria. The Marquee Classic Riesling is off-dry in style with just a slight hint of sweetness that is kept in balance with strong acids and a lovely lime / lemon zest character. Versatile and adept for wine pairings this wine can go with seafood, Asian cusine, light salads or even on its own as a meal starter! For the second wine we revert to the grape/style that has allowed Australia put its name back on the international wine scene in the last twenty-five years, Shiraz (yes the same grape as Syrah, but the stubborn Aussies have stuck to changing that trend). The Marquee Signature McLaren Vale Shiraz is a rock star wine, that has very smooth tanning, a rich, full bodied character and tons of flavor (raspberry, dark cherry, mocha, toffee and more...)! Shiraz is the most widely planted grape in all of Australia and this single vineyard wine showcases why so many vineyards are devoted to Shiraz production!
Marquee Selections has partnered up with the award-winning chef focused program In The Kitchen with Bonnie ( to produce an exciting new wine segment entitled In the Cellar with Marquee Selections . During each episode we will unravel the wine world one grape at a time! Each week we invite you to join us for an engaging conversation for our food and wine lovers to see why wine has been a worldwide tradition for centuries and how learning more about it can help bring the stories and flavors to life. Learn more about exciting regions, new wine types, varietals, how to pair wines with food, decanting, proper serving temperature, what wine goes best with pizza and more! A great 10 minute break from your day to learn and wet your taste buds for more!
Please enjoy this web-episode of In the Cellar with Marquee and additional details are available below for more information on Marquee Selections! I am a bit new to the HD Camera, so please bear with me as I get my sea legs as an action reporter ( with today's technology you can find the grey hairs if you look) :) and thank you so much for tuning in and supporting Marquee Selections!

Tellurian Wines talking Heathcote, Shiraz and their wines, Heathcote, Victoria
TELLURIAN 2014 'Pastiche' SHIRAZ, HEATHCOTE, VIC
TELLURIAN 2013 'Tranter' SHIRAZ, HEATHCOTE, VIC
THE PRODUCER:
Tellurian Wines Heathcote was established in 2002 by Ian Hopkins with the purchase of a parcel of farming land on the western slopes of the Mt Camel range, overlooking the township of Toolleen. The original Tellurian vineyard was planted to Shiraz that year, with further Shiraz plantings in 2003, 2006 and alternate varietal plantings in 2011 and 2012.
In 2006 Winemaker Tobias Ansted and viticultural consultant Tim Brown joined Tellurian in preparation for the first vintage, which produced the 2008 Tellurian Heathcote Shiraz. In 2009 the first Pastiche Shiraz was introduced, combining fruit from both our Tranter Rd Vineyard, and the Tuohey family vineyard on the eastern side of the Mt Camel Range.
THE VINEYARD:
Our Tranter Rd vineyard is located on the western slopes of the Mt Camel Range overlooking the township of Toolleen. The 80 ha of land includes 22 ha under vine, comprising of 16 ha of Shiraz planted in 2002, 2003 and 2006, with the remaining area planted in 2011 and 2012 including Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier, Marsanne, Riesling and Nero D’Avola.
The cambrian soils are deep, rich, red decomposed greenstone rock, with soils depths across the vineyard up to 2m. These ancient cambrian soils of the Toolleen area of the Heathcote region combined with viticultural practices that focus on optimising fruit quality from each vine, provides the base building blocks for our wines.
Our flagship Tellurian Tranter Shiraz is made exclusively from our Tranter Rd vineyard. Tellurian Winemaker Tobias Ansted and viticulturist Tim Brown work closely with select growers near Toolleen, to ensure vineyard management and harvesting practices yield optimum quality for fruit that contributes to our Pastiche Shiraz, Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvedre, Viognier and Marsanne.
We work closely with the Touhey family vineyard on the eastern side of Mt Camel who grow grapes that are blended with fruit from our estate vineyard for the Tellurian Heathcote Pastiche Shiraz.
THE WINERY:
Our overarching winemaking philosophy is to produce well balanced wines where winemaking and oak inputs play a supporting role to allow the fruit to express its varietal characteristics. Under this philosophy each wine is handcrafted to express the characteristics of the site and the subtleties of the particular vintage.
The wines from the 2012 vintage, were the first made in our new winery in Tranter Rd Toolleen. The new winery was built to 100 tonne crush capacity and includes three 5000L French oak fermenters, seven concrete (stainless steel lined) fermenters and a bank of seven open top stainless steel fermenters.
THE WINES:
TELLURIAN 2014 'Pastiche' SHIRAZ, HEATHCOTE, VIC
This wine is a vibrant expression of Heathcote Shiraz relying on intense fruit combined with subtle oak. Bright red purple colour. The nose displays aromas of blackberry, clove spice with hints of cocoa and earthy notes. The medium bodied palate is bright, lively with juicy dark berry fruit intensity, fine grippy tannins and persistent length.
TELLURIAN 2013 'Tranter' SHIRAZ, HEATHCOTE, VIC
The bright crimson colour heralds a cornucopia of berry fruit that includes blackberries, blueberries and ripe raspberries. A complex blend of warm spice and dark cocoa meld seamlessly with the intense fruit of the palate which shows drive and length. Fine persistent tannins provide structure and exceptional length.

Tasting wine at the vineyard of a USA President
Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd President of the USA. History will remember him as being the chief author of the Declaration of Independence, but politics wasn't his only passion.
In Charlottesville, Virginia you can see where Jefferson's first vineyards were planted in 1774. Virginia is one of the top up and coming wine destinations in the world and since replanting the original sites in 1981, Jefferson's Vineyards now produce some of the state's finest wines.
These days you needn't be leader of the free world to tour the vineyards. Wine lovers from all over the world descend on Charlottesville to sample the produce. In this video you can see just why people make the trip, and also see the following wines being tasted and analysed.
Chardonnay reserve 09
While at first showing crisp mineral aromas, the nose is quickly enveloped in bright citrus, apple and lemon peel. The palate shows intense fruits, underpinned by crisp minerality and balanced by tingling acidity and a broad rich mouthfeel. 2010 Lodi Wine Awards - Gold Medal
Viognier
Aromas of honeysuckle & apricot lead to similar flavors lifted by polished acidity & an underlying minerality. This cuvee will age gracefully the next 1 to 2 years. Serve only to your immediate family & closest friends & with any lighter foods. 2009 San Diego Int'l - Gold Medal
Meritage 08
Shows palate saturating red and black fruits from the first taste through the finish. With notes of cassis, espresso, chocolate on the mid-palate and Provencal herbs on the finish. This wine will bring handsome rewards if cellared for the next decade. 2010 San Diego Int'l - Gold Medal
