Busan Cultural Center and Busan Museum, South Korea
Busan Cultural Center is one of the representative cultural arts institutions in Busan and hosts a diversity of concerts, dances, plays, and other performances. It boasts international conference facilities and is a center of operations for seven different metropolitan arts organizations including the philharmonic orchestra, traditional orchestra, chorus, dance company, theater company, philharmonic youth orchestra, and the boys & girls chorus.
The Busan Museum, offers seven regular exhibition rooms spread over three floors in addition to the Kiln Exhibition Hall, and the Outdoor Exhibition Hall. Opened in 1978, the museum has taken on a leading role in preserving traditional culture in Busan by obtaining a wealth of relics from strong excavation efforts, generous donations and purchases, and by meticulous research.
Both location are in Busan just beside the UN Memorial Cementery. I haven't seen these locations included on any tour in South Korea so maybe I was the first Filipino to do a vlog about these places but unfortunately the two places are closed when I get there so I just borrowed images from the korean tourism website and I hope you can appreciate the effort I did here.

2242. Korean Lion Dance (Busan, South Korea)
Another act we saw in the traditional music show at Busan Citizens Park on 17th July 2016. We have seen many Chinese lion dances over the years, but this is our first experience of the Korean version.
The lion dance was recorded in the Korean historical work Samguk Sagi as Sanye (狻猊, the old Chinese word for lion), one of the five poems on the dances of the Silla kingdom written by Choe Chiwon. It may also have been recorded as early as King Jinheung's reign in the 6th century. Two main traditions of lion dance survive in Korea, the saja-noreum which is performed as an exorcism drama and uses a brown lion, and the sajach'um, the one seen here, which is performed in association with masked dramas and uses a white lion. In many of the traditional masked dance dramas, the lion dance appears as one part of a number of acts. (Information from Wikipedia)

It was soooooo sweet. Perfect Friday night!
Enjoy autumn with art at the 2019 Korea Art Week
가을엔 미술관으로… 미리 만나보는 2019 미술주간
If you're in Korea, you'll soon have a great chance to immerse yourself in art.
It's the annual Korea Art Week will starting for a 5th year next Wednesday under two themes which are 'Let's go to the gallery,' and 'Let's buy art,' so as you can imagine, there'll be a lot of pieces for sale.
Lee Min-sun has the details.
The two-week long Korea Art Week starts on September 25th and looks to encourage people to get closer to the arts. Previous events had focused on exchanges and networking among artists, but this year's event aims to encourage visitors to participate themselves and enjoy art.
Some 200 art museums and galleries across the country, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, are taking part in Korea Art Week and are offering discounted admission and special programs.
Museums will also offer sideline events called 'Night at the Museum' ranging from music performances and film screenings to cooking and arts and crafts classes.
In addition to free admissions to our museums, we'll offer various different things, including a novel reading event, an outdoor marketplace and a classical music performance. Since it's autumn, I hope many people enjoy art week.
The signature program is the art travel program in which participants can check out several art galleries in a single day. A total of 12 art travel programs are offered in eight cities, including Seoul, Daejeon, Cheongju and Busan.
The art tour was the most popular program during last year's art week, so we doubled the size of the program and extended the area to include regional cities beyond Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province.
Four walking tours in Seoul and two in Daegu and Busan are offered free of charge. There are also six bus tour programs, which cost between 2,000 won and 10,000 won, or around 2 to 8 U.S. dollars, per person.
Also to encourage people to not only enjoy art, but to buy and own art pieces, a number of art marketplaces and an art fair will be held.
The 18th Korea International Art Fair runs from September 26th to 29th at the COEX Convention Hall in southern Seoul with over 170 participating art galleries from Korea and other countries.
Six art marketplaces in five cities will also offer artwork mostly by Korean artists at a relatively low price. Most of the pieces will be under 2 million won or about 1,700 U.S. dollars. At the marketplace, visitors can also participate in talk shows with artists or enjoy music performances.

[Busan Attraction] 금정산 어디까지 가 봤니? GeumJung Mountain
The gentle breeze of autumn. Autumn is known as the season to read, the season of lonliness, the season of high skys and plump horses, the season of men... There are many descriptions of autumn. The autumn your teacher, Mr. Kang, recommends is the season of hiking. It's not too hot and it's not too cold so the mountain is the perfect place to spend autumn.
All summer we talk about the beach. By now you must be sick and tired of it and wonder Does Busan only have beaches? Well, today we're going to the mountain, Busan's most famous mountain. It's GeumJung Mountain, of course! Come on! Follow me!
Just hearing your teacher Sam say we're going to Mt. GeumJung there must be those of you who say Ah.. I'll pass.. I'm so burned out already. You're already afraid. But what kind of mountain is Mt. GeumJung. On the east side is GeumJung-Gu on the west side is Book-Gu on the south side is DongNae-Gu and to the north it reaches as far as the city of Yangsan. This mountain penetrates the city of Busan! It's a wider than wide mountainous area with various hiking courses. No matter what your taste in difficulty is, you can freely choose. GeumJung has it all.
Still someone may say, So what? I'd rather die than hike. There is a way to fly! You can ride the cable car! Take the cable car up and enjoy Mt. GeumJung's majestic features and rugged cliffs from the air. Before you know it you will arrive at the south gate of GeumJung's mountain fortress. If you are a Busan citizen you have ridden the cable car at least once but I bet your memory is a little fuzzy. It's more fun than you're thinking!
Across the top of GeumJung Mountain is the GeumJung Mountain Fortress from the times of the 1592 Japanese invasion is Korea's largest mountain fortress. It's like the Great wall of Korea! Underline this part!
OK, Now we'll try to go to the end of the GeumJung Mountain fortress. Try to keep up! Ah~ Did you see what we just passed? No way! an art galley in the mountains? That's right! An art gallery! Surprising but here he have an art gallery hiding here. In the yard you can see profound sculptures and as you go in you can see various works of art on display.
Just an art gallery? Just below the place where you go up Geumjung Mountain is Yosan Hall of Literature
You can see Korea's big literature star produced by Busan, Yosan Kim Jeong-Han's birthplace and a collection of his things.
Sit at the book cafe leisurely reading books and dive into the literature full atmosphere. You can't wait, right?
Actually, you may think you know all of the popular places on GeumJung Mountain, but here are some interesting facts I'm sure you don't know. You can have a picnic, there's a sketch contest, Many people visit GeumKang Botanical Garden. Do you have any idea how many kinds of plants they have? 500? 1000? As many as 2,300 kinds of plants!!
And the HwaMyoung arboretum which overlooks the NakDong River! You may think there are only trees but there is a fun Maze park, cool river, even a small zoo! A place for healing! Especially these days with the beautiful leaves changing... the magnificent colors! You can't help but leave with healing radiating from you.
That soul healing is great but what if your belly needs healing too? Your teacher Mr. Kang is a step ahead of you! That's my specialty! First, what GeumJung Mountain is known for... black goat bulgogi! Thinly sliced goat bulgogi marinated in sauce and grilled over a charcoal fire. It's one of Busan's local dishes. Also sweet and sour DoeToeLiMook which is a kind of Acorn jelly salad, and PaJeon which is a kind of Korean style pizza... Oh, I can't get enough... And don't pass up the chance to have some of the local MakKeoLi, a kind of rice wine. The mountain fortress MakKeoLi is made from the pure mountain springs. It's a work of art! You may have had MakKeoLi before but this is on another level with its deep rich taste. You drink it one bowl at a time. You can't say you've been to GeumJung Mountain unless you've tried it.
If you wanna enjoy GeumJung Mountain, this autumn may be short. So don't dilly dabble around. Just go the GeumJung Mountain. Go up and fill your lungs with crisp, clean air. Let out your stress as sweat leaves your body. Look at the works of art. Enjoy some delicious food and smile on your way down! A day enjoying GeumJung Mountain. Now that's worth 100 points!
Class Dismissed!

Driving in South Korea: Incheon Metropolitan City (인천광역시) - The 3rd largest city in Korea
Incheon is the third largest city in Korea after Seoul and Busan.
The population is close to 3 million.
There is Incheon International Airport which is the world's best.
You can also take a boat from Incheon Port (International Passenger Terminal) to China.
As such, Incheon is the gateway to the Republic of Korea.
In this video, you can see the downtown of Incheon city, Nam-gu and Namdong-gu district.
The seaside area like Busan is a bit tricky to drive. But Incheon was easier to drive than I expected. It was so nice. :)
Travel happily everybody! thank you.

BJJ in Korea: Art of the Morning Calm
Website:
Facebook:
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is arguably the hottest martial art right now, with it's growth outpacing all others. This is for good reason; it's popular in the Ultimate Fighting Championships, is a highly effective self-defense system, and dynamic sport.
As expected, Korea has taken to the sport and it continues it's upward trend of growth to this day.
Here in Busan it's no exception. With the likes of Kim Dong-Hyun leading the MMA charge in the UFC, the sport is exploding.
I've trained in BJJ at American Top Team, Gracie Barra, and of course Busan Team MAD! As with judo (and any martial art for that matter) the camaraderie is awesome and I've made new, life-long friends in BJJ. I decided paying homage to the sport here in Korea was only fitting since it's right here at my fingertips.
I hope you enjoy this montage. It's just the tip of the iceberg.

Korean BUDDHIST FOOD & Temple Stay at Beomeosa Temple | Busan, South Korea
My third full day in South Korea continued in the city of Busan, where my group and I had the amazing opportunity to stay overnight at Beomeosa Temple just outside the city. Come join me as I have my first overnight Buddhist temple experience!
FEATURED TRAVELERS:
Sam:
Right off the bat, lugging my carry-on up the worn stairs leading to the men’s quarters was tough! There are men’s quarters and women’s quarters. We would sleep in a communal area and share a communal bathroom.
I took my shoes off and got my uniform, which I’d wear for the next 12 hours. They’re almost like pajamas! They’re super soft and comfortable and I loved the color! From there, Sam and I returned to the hall, where we met the supporting monk, who taught us how to do three bows. We were also informed of the temple’s rules.
You have to be very quiet in the temple and there are areas where you can’t speak at all. We also can’t film in certain areas. After finishing our bows, we took a tour.
There are 3 gates to get to the main temple ground area. The first is the one-pillar gate because there’s only 1 row of pillars. I learned that the temple’s name translates to the Golden Fish Temple.
Through the second gate, we learned that Buddhism is different depending on the country you’re in. The gate has 4 heavenly kings who fight off evil spirits. The gates are all different and have symbolic meanings. We also saw a place where the monks will play instruments, including drums, gongs, and bells before the morning and evening ceremonies.
At 5:30, it was time for a Buddhist monk dinner! We dined on mats, traditional-style. We learned where to position our four bowls, chopsticks, and spoon. You’re given some water and then the rice goes into your largest bowl. Next was seaweed-style soup, and the banchan goes into your bowl for side dishes. You have to eat everything you take, so don’t take too much! To eat, you lift the bowl up to your face.
Once you start eating, you can’t talk at all! After you eat, you clean each bowl with the water, wash them, and dry them. My legs started cramping up during my meal, so that was the hardest part!
Then, we went to go see the monks ring the gong. It was very intricate and rhythmic and fascinating to watch! We had to turn off the cameras for the evening chanting ceremony, which is a 15-minute ceremony to end the day. You have to do lots of bowing!
Then we went to another activity, where we had to do 108 bows. They got really tough as they went on! Then, we put together 108 beads into a bracelet. I loved mine! I was going to wear it until it falls off.
After that, it was time for bed! It was basically a big sleepover! Lights out were at 9:30 and wake-up was at 5 a.m. The drums started at 4:30. I slept pretty good except for the mosquitoes!
The morning exercise was a breathing meditation exercise for 30 minutes. We had a beautiful view and it was so peaceful out! Then it was time for a traditional buffet-style breakfast!
For breakfast, we ate in the main dining hall. We had rice, kimchi, vegetables, and more. The kimchi was spicy, while the seaweed was earthy and crunchy. After you eat, you wash your own dish. You have to clean it well because no one cleans it after you! Let your dish dry and place it on the counter.
Next, we walked to a nearby temple. The main temple has 10 smaller ones surrounding it. This one was famous because its monk invented a form of martial arts. There were lots of images of fictional characters and gods. The Buddha is at the very top!
Then we had tea with orange for a half hour and talked with the monk!
I hope you enjoyed coming to Beomeosa Temple with me! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment. Also, please subscribe so you don’t miss any of my upcoming videos!

Enjoy autumn days with art during 2019 Korea Art Week
가을엔 미술관으로… 미리 만나보는 2019 미술주간
Time now for our Life & Info segment...where we focus on information useful for your everyday life.
It's Thursday,... so we are going to focus on culture and the arts in South Korea.
To introduce some fun events that are on the horizon, we have our Lee Min-sun in the studio for us.
Hi, Min-sun.
Hi Mark, today I'm going to introduce some events that are suitable for the fall season.
It's almost 2019 Korea Art Week, which is a two-week long program run by the culture ministry and Korea Arts Management Service, to give people more access to art works like paintings, installation art and video art.
Korea Art Week has been held every year since 2015 and this year it will run from September 25th, next Wednesday to October 9th.
The event was organized to encourage people to get closer to the arts and enjoy them. This year's event has two themes which are 'Let's go to art galleries' and 'Let's buy art pieces'. Let's hear from the organizer.
Korea Art Week aims to make art more accessible and hopes to improve people's quality of life through an understanding and enjoyment of art and communication with art. Previous events focused on exchanges and networking among artists, but this year we have shifted our focus to encourage visitors' participation and enjoyment.
During the two weeks, 258 art museums and galleries across the country will take part and provide discounted admission and various programs to invite more visitors to enjoy the arts.
The main branch and three other branches of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art will offer free admission and other art galleries will offer discounts of between 20 to 50 percent.
Museums will also offer sideline events called 'Night at the Museum' ranging from music performances, film screenings as well as cooking or craft making classes.
In addition to free admissions to our museums, we'll offer various different things, including a novel reading event, an outdoor marketplace and a classical music performance. Since it's autumn, I hope many people enjoy art week.
Sounds like a good chance to check out some of South Korea's many art galleries if you haven't been to one yet. What would you say are the highlights of Korea Art Week?
The signature program is the art travel program.
A total of 12 art travel programs are offered in eight cities, including Seoul, Daejeon, Cheongju and Busan.
Participants can check out several art galleries in a single day.
This was the most popular program during last year's art week, so the organizers doubled the size of the program and extended the area to include regional cities beyond Seoul and Gyeonggi-do province.
Four tours in Seoul and two in Daegu and Busan are offered as walking tours and these are free of charge.
Six others are bus tour programs and will cost you between 2,000 won to 10,000 won a person, which is only around 2 to 8 U.S. dollars.
Tour programs are offered at different sites and dates so make sure to check art week website and make a reservation so you don't miss out.
Autumn is a great time to travel in Korea.... and art themed travel is a fun experience. At the start, you mentioned the art week's two different themes You've talked about the first so what's the second theme?
The second theme is buying art pieces.
So to encourage people to not only enjoy art, but to buy and own their own art pieces, a number of art marketplaces and an art fair will be held.
The 18th Korea International Art Fair will be held from September 26th to 29th at the COEX Convention Hall in southern Seoul with over 170 participating art galleries from Korea and other countries.
The organizers will also offer six art marketplaces in five cities.
The markets will offer artworks mostly by Korean artists at a relatively low price.
Most of the pieces will be under 2 million won or about 1,700 U.S. dollars.
At the marketplace, visitors can also participate in talk shows with artists or enjoy music performances.
That sounds like a range of art events to choose from. Thanks for the information, Minsun.
Now let's take a quick look at some cultural events that are coming up in South Korea.
