Death Road Biking Tour in La Paz - Bolivia | Altitude Travel
The Death Road is one of the most unique activities Bolivia has to offer. Book Now:
Where else in the world can you cycle from snow-covered Andean Mountains all the way down to the entrance of the amazon jungle in a just a few hours? Internationally known for being the highlight of one’s trip when in South America, this exciting bike ride exposes some of Bolivia’s most breath-taking landscapes, beautiful mountains and sparkling waterfalls.
The Death Road, or “Camino de la Muerte” in Spanish, was cut on the side of the Cordillera Oriental Mountain chain in the 1930s and stretches for about 70km from La Paz to Coroico, connecting the Yungas(an ecoregion of the Amazon rain forest northeast of La Paz) to the administrative capital. From La Paz, the road climbs to around 4700 meters above sea level (over 15 thousand feet) at La Cumbre–in the Altiplano highlands- before descending to 1300 meters (4 thousand feet) to the Yungas, allowing travelers to experience an incredible change in both temperature and landscapes.
Surrounded by mountainous terrain and high precipices, the road gained its fame and name due to its danger and adrenaline-rush potential. In the 2000s, the modernization of the road and construction of an alternative one diverted the traffic and allowed for more safe conditions. Nowadays, this electrifying activity is suitable for both confident beginners and experienced mountain bikers of all ages.
As one of the highest ranked biking operators in Bolivia, at Altitude Biking we pride ourselves on providing the best in security, professionalism and fun. Our service includes safe vehicles, best-quality equipment and bikes, highly skilled English speaking tour guides 1 every 5 passengers, trained in Advanced First Aid, Mechanics and Rope Rescue- and fast contingency plans in place for any occurrence. From the Andes to the Jungle, we designed a package that will allow you to experience this incredible adrenaline-pumping activity in total security, while guaranteeing an incomparable life experience.

MOUNTAIN BIKING DEATH ROAD in BOLIVIA! - GoPro Hero7 Black
When we got to Bolivia and found out the number one thing to do is mountain bike down something called Death Road, there's no way we were going to miss it!
North Yungas Road between La Paz and the Yungas region of the country is known as the world's most dangerous road, due to its narrow width and the 2000-foot cliff that drops off to one side with no barriers. Over the years hundreds of people have unfortunately lost their lives on this stretch of highway, which has been dubbed Death Road. Surprisingly it's also turned into a tourist attraction, with plenty of intrepid travellers grabbing mountain bikes and riding down its twisting, perilous path.
We signed up for a Death Road mountain biking tour with the company Gravity Assisted, the most reputable operator in La Paz. We left the city and headed to the highest point of the road, way up in the mountains. From there it was a 3600m descent over 60km along the incredibly scenic and slightly terrifying Death Road.
Afterwards we paid a visit to a wildlife sanctuary that rescues endangered animals such as spectacled Andean bears and spider monkeys from illegal trafficking.
It proved to be one of the most amazing experiences of our entire time in South America, and despite the name, we survived.
This video is not sponsored - we paid full price for our tour with Gravity Assisted, and highly recommend them if you're considering mountain biking Death Road in Bolivia.

SEE THE WORLD 27: Bolivia, The Highway or my way (cordillera real)
**sorry for the no audio section, Bill Callahan's song was blocking the video***
27th episode following a bike ride from Alaska to Argentina and around the world. This one is sort of an experiment since I rode directly to La Paz when I first reached Bolivia, now I will go back and see what I missed by riding two days on the highway. This picks up very close to La Rinconada (Peru, highest settlement in the world) along the Tres Cordilleras bikepacking route toward Sorata and then backroads and trails along The Cordillera Real.
thank you for watching!

The BIGGEST Market in South America I La Paz El Alto Bolivia
We visited the biggest market in South America in La Paz, El Alto Bolivia. It was pretty overwhelming to see this market because of its size. The market is located in the most dangerous part of La Paz, El Alto. Unfortunately, we didn't feel any danger at all so please don't believe media what they say and go find it by yourself.
La Paz has one of the best transportation that we have ever seen. El teleferico aka cable cars will bring you everywhere in the city and it's pretty awesome to see La Paz Bolivia from above.
We hope you enjoyed our La Paz Travel video and stay tuned for the next one. Finally gonna show you some Bolivian food.

Landon Stroud & Ben Mauze - Trail Ayma La Paz Bolivia DH Mtb.mp4
Whilst in South America I met up with Ben Mauze and Travis from Andean Epics. These guys sorted out the best 3 days of riding in my life. This was one of the trails. Ayma in Bolivia.
Looking back, it was very exposed and super technical. Was a real feat to do this track. I only got one shot at it, so everything I hit was blind. Ben absolutely shredded the track and left me behind in a lot of sections. This is probably to most exposed technical riding I have done.
Big thanks to Ben for being the raddest guide, Travis for making it happen and Gus for hooking me up his personal bike.

Biking Bolivia's Road of Death
Dropping an incredible 12,000 ft while biking down world's most dangerous road was definitely one of the highlights of trip so far. We started at 15,400 ft in a freezing snowstorm and ended hot, tired, and exhilarated at 3,600 ft in the humid Amazonian rainforest.
The Death Road is one of the few routes that connects the Amazon to La Paz. It was built in the 1930s during the Chaco War by Paraguayan POWs. The dirt road is extremely narrow, with 3,500ft+ sheer drops on one side and hulking rock overhangs and cascading waterfalls on the other. Due to the high yearly death toll the road was replaced by a larger, safer, asphalt road in 2006. Now it is primarily utilized by thrill seeking mountain bikers.

DEATH ROAD LA PAZ - I SURVIVED
Less than a one hour drive from La Paz, Bolivia is Death Road (El Camino del Muerte) which is claimed to be the world's most dangerous road. Estimates show there has been over three hundred deaths since the road has opened. Along the road there are several religious Christian crosses saying 'In Memory Of'. It starts at 4,700 meters high dropping to about 2,000 meters stretching about 70km in length with a 3300m decent in altitude.

Bolivia Travel Guide - La Paz and El Alto
La Paz, the capital of Bolivia, is a city I’ve always wanted to visit. Surrounded by mountains, 3-4,000 meters above sea level, populated mostly by colourful indigenous peoples and framed by a crazy cityscape that tumbles into a valley of skyscrapers, La Paz has always held a certain mystique.
For the next few days we got to explore. We checked out a tooth festival, rode the cable cars, visited a massive market, I got attacked by a woman with a stick and we nearly got struck down by some sort of Ninja. As we are to find out, In La Paz anything can happen.
