Abandoned Mines of Mazarron Spain #camposolspain #expatinmazarron
There has been mining at these mines at Mazarron since the Bronze and Iron Age. The Phoenicians were active here as were the Romans. Most of the ruined buildings you see now date from the 1880’s.
The last mine closed in 1963. Alum, Lead, Iron, Copper and Silver were all mined in Mazarron.

The abandoned Mines of Mazarron have been mined since the Roman times, looking for gold, silver, copper and aluminium. In the 19th and 20th century there was a resurgence in mining-industrial activity in Mazarrón due to the return to extraction of the Roman mines established in the San Cristóbal and Los Perules, the Pedreras Viejas and Fortuna Reserves, along with additional, smaller reserves.
The abandoned mines of Mazarrón are characterized by the beautiful colors and deep shafts that, partially sealed, can still be admired. A walk in and around the mines is one of the recommendations in the area!

Abandoned Mine to explore Spain #expatinmazarron
Mina El Lirio Cartagena Murcia Spain
Also known as - The Lily Mine. Not far from the town of El Llano del Beal. While walking to the mine you will get the panoramic views of the Mar Menor in the background. Around you will see mining work, with pine trees around you will come across this big disused mine. Lots of ruined buildings and the most interesting feature is the bridge on which the ore conveyor belt was located. Stayed open up until the mid-1970s, when due to their lack of profitability they were forced to close.

Las Minas de Mazarron
This surreal bizarre colourful landscape of Mazarron/Spain is the result of the long-term deposit of mine waste. At the same time it is beautiful and a real tragedy.
