Abbey Road, St. John's Wood, London, England, United Kingdom, Europe
Abbey Road is the eleventh studio album by English rock band the Beatles, released on 26 September 1969 by Apple Records. The front cover design, a photograph of the group on a zebra crossing, was based on ideas sketched by McCartney, and taken on 8 August 1969 outside EMI Studios in Abbey Road. At 11:35 that morning, photographer Iain Macmillan was given only ten minutes to take the photo whilst he stood on a step-ladder and a policeman held up traffic behind the camera. Macmillan took six photographs, which McCartney later examined with a magnifying glass before deciding which of the shots would be used upon the album sleeve.
In the image selected by McCartney, the group walk across the street in single file from left to right, with Lennon leading, followed by Starr, McCartney, and Harrison. McCartney is barefoot and out of step with the other members. Apart from Harrison, the group are wearing suits designed by Tommy Nutter. To the left of the picture, parked next to the zebra crossing, is a white Volkswagen Beetle which belonged to one of the people living in the block of flats across from the recording studio. After the album was released, the number plate (LMW 281F) was stolen repeatedly from the car. In 1986, the car was sold at auction for £2,530 and in 2001 was on display in a museum in Germany. The man standing on the pavement to the right of the picture is Paul Cole (7 July 1911-13 February 2008), an American tourist unaware he had been photographed until he saw the album cover months later. On the original cover, McCartney holds a cigarette; in 2003 several US poster companies airbrushed this cigarette out of the image, without permission from either Apple or McCartney. Shortly after the album's release the cover became part of the Paul is dead rumour that was spreading across college campuses in the United States. According to followers of the rumour, the cover depicted the Beatles walking out of a cemetery in a funeral procession. The procession was led by Lennon, dressed in white, as a religious figure, Starr, dressed in black, as the undertaker, McCartney, out of step with the others, as a barefoot corpse and Harrison, dressed in denim, as the gravedigger. The left-handed McCartney is holding a cigarette in his right hand, said to indicate an imposter and the license plate on the Volkswagen parked on the street is 28IF, meaning McCartney would have been 28 if he had lived.
Abbey Road,London
Abbey Road is a thoroughfare located in the borough of Camden and the City of Westminster in London running roughly northwest to southeast through St. John's Wood, near Lord's Cricket Ground. It is part of the B507.
The north-western end of Abbey Road begins in Kilburn, at the intersection of Quex Road and West End Lane; it continues south-east for roughly a mile, crossing Belsize Road, Boundary Road, and Marlborough Place, ending at the intersection of Grove End Road and Garden Road.
The Abbey National Building Society (later the Abbey) was founded in 1874 as The Abbey Road & St John's Wood Permanent Benefit Building Society in a Baptist church on Abbey Road.
EMI's Abbey Road Studios are located at the south-eastern end, at 3 Abbey Road, St John's Wood. The Beatles and many other famous popular music performers have recorded at this studio, and The Beatles named their final 1969 studio LP Abbey Road. The album's cover photograph shows the four group members walking across the zebra crossing located just outside the studio entrance. As a result of its association with The Beatles, since 1970 this section of Abbey Road has been featured on the London tourism circuit.
The crossing featured on the Beatles cover, as well as the crossing directly north of it, have become popular photo-opportunity areas, despite the road still being a busy thoroughfare for traffic. The iconic Beatles album cover has been parodied many times over the years on the crossing.
The tin street sign (pictured above) on the corner of Grove End Road and Abbey Road was recently removed as well. The street sign is now mounted high on the building on the corner, to save the local council the expense of cleaning and replacing the sign, which was frequently defaced and stolen. The council repaints the wall next to the crossing every three months to cover fans' graffiti.
Abbey Road Studios is a recording studio located at 3 Abbey Road, St John's Wood, City of Westminster, London, England. It was established in November 1931 by a predecessor of British music company EMI, its present owner. Apart from the facility's use as a recording studio, the premises have also been used to remaster many of the classical music recordings made at Kingsway Hall. It is most notable for being the venue in the 1960s for innovative recording techniques adopted by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and others.
The movies:Harry Potter, and the Lord of the ring soundtracks were recorded there too.

Abbey Road is a thoroughfare in the borough of Camden and the City of Westminster in London, running roughly northwest to southeast through St. John's Wood, near Lord's Cricket Ground. Abbey Road is part of the B507 road. Abbey Road is best known for the Abbey Road Studios and the 1969 album, Abbey Road, by The Beatles.
The north-western end of Abbey Road begins in Kilburn, at the junction with Quex Road and West End Lane. Abbey Road was once a track leading to Kilburn Priory and its associated Abbey Farm, and was developed in the early 19th century. Abbey Road continues south-east for roughly a mile, crossing Belsize Road, Boundary Road, and Marlborough Place, ending at the junction of Grove End Road and Garden Road.
The Abbey National Building Society (now Santander UK) was founded in 1874 as The Abbey Road & St John's Wood Permanent Benefit Building Society in a Baptist church on Abbey Road. The Beatles' album, Abbey Road, features the Beatles walking across the northwestern zebra crossing on the intersection Abbey Road and Grove End Road.
EMI's Abbey Road Studios are located at the south-eastern end, at 3 Abbey Road, St John's Wood. The Beatles and many other famous popular music performers have recorded at this studio, and The Beatles named their last studio LP after this street. The album's cover photograph shows the four group members walking across the zebra crossing just outside the studio entrance. As a result of its association with The Beatles, since 1969 this part of Abbey Road has been featured on the London tourism circuit. In December 2010 the crossing was given Grade II Listed Building status by English Heritage despite its age not being contemporary to that era.

Beatles' Abbey Road crossing packed for 45th anniversary
Hundreds of Beatles' fans flock to Abbey Road to mark 45 years since the Beatles' were photographed on the crossing.
It's been 45 years since The Beatles were photographed as they walked across a zebra crossing in St. John's Wood, London, for the cover of their iconic album, Abbey Road.
Since then, thousands of fans from around the world have visited the crossing to recreate the pose and see Abbey Road Studios, where the Fab Four recorded most of their songs.
To mark the anniversary on Friday, the cast of the West End hit show Let It Be led fans across the famous street, exactly 45 years to the minute after their heroes struck the pose.
It's 45 years to the minute since The Beatles posed for this picture. It only took 10 minutes to do and since then god knows how many millions of people have crossed. We reckon about 200,000 people a year cross Abbey Road to replicate this picture, said Richard Porter, a professional Beatles tour guide and the organiser of the event.
Abbey Road is still considered by many as the British rock band's final album (although Let It Be was released after Abbey Road, most of it was in the can before the Abbey Road sessions even began.)
With classic hits, like Come Together, Something and Here Comes the Sun, Abbey Road was released towards the end of 1969 and still to this day is regarded by many as a masterpiece.

Abbey Road Studios is a recording studio located at 3 Abbey Road, St John's Wood, City of Westminster, London, England.[1] It was established in November 1931 by the Gramophone Company, a predecessor of British music company EMI, its present owner. Abbey Road Studios is most notable as being the venue in the 1960s for innovative recording techniques adopted by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Hollies, Badfinger and others. One of its earliest world famous artist clients was Paul Robeson who recorded in December 1931 and went on to record many of his best known songs there, certainly until 1939.
