VISIT TO ABBEYDALE INDUSTRIAL HAMLET
I am a descendant of William TYZACK the former tenant/manager of ABBEYDALE INDUSTRIAL HAMLET , on the edge of Sheffield (my father is also named William TYZACK) so I thought that my wife, Penelope and I should make a visit.
This is an excerpt taken from the film 'NORTHBOUND' that we made in 2006 during our trip via Lincolnshire to Nottingham, Chesterfield, The Dales, Sheffield, York, The North Yorks Moors (Heartbeat country), Whitby, Scarborough and Hull, then back down through Suffolk, stopping off at Southwold and then 'Constable country' around Dedham and Flatford.
I recommend a visit to Abbeydale and hope that you may as lucky as we were to see a party of schoolchildren on a visit wearing period costume which really made the place come alive. They were also 'tickled pink' to be introduced, by the guide, to my wife and I as Mr. & Mrs. TYZACK.
Please excuse the reference to my dental appointment but I did not intend this film to be for public viewing when I made it !
Hope you enjoy this film and please leave a comment.
Thanks,
Roy Tyzack

Sheffield is a city and metropolitan borough in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Sheffield name derives from the River Sheaf, which runs through the city. With some of its southern suburbs annexed from Derbyshire, the city of Sheffield has grown from its largely industrial roots to encompass a wider economic base.
In the 19th century, Sheffield gained an international reputation for steel production. Known as the Steel City, many innovations were developed locally, including crucible and stainless steel, fuelling an almost tenfold increase in the population in the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield received its municipal charter in 1843, becoming the City of Sheffield in 1893.
The city has a long sporting heritage, and is home to the world's oldest football club, Sheffield F.C. Games between the two professional clubs, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, are known as the Steel City derby. The city is also home to the World Snooker Championship.

SUMMARY
=======
Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is an industrial museum in the south of the City of Sheffield, England. The museum forms part of a former steel-working site on the River Sheaf, with a history going back to at least the 13th century. It consists of a number of dwellings and workshops that were formerly the Abbeydale Works—a scythe-making plant that was in operation until the 1930s—and is a remarkably complete example of a 19th-century works. The works are atypical in that much of the production process was completed on the same site (in a similar manner to a modern factory). A more typical example of water-powered works in the area can be found at Shepherd Wheel.
The site is a scheduled ancient monument, the works are Grade I listed and the workers' cottages, counting house, and manager's house are Grade II* listed.
