Knockmoy Abbey, Abbyknockmoy Co Galway
The extensive remains of the Abby in Abbyknockmoy Co Galway Ireland comprise a large transitional style church of early 13th century date, a now largely ruined central tower and the remains of a cloister. The east wing of the cloister is the most extant and it contains the sacristy, chapter house and a later garderobe. The abbey was founded in AD 1189/90 by Cathal Crovdearg O’Connor, king of Connacht, apparently in fulfilment of a vow he made prior to his victory over an English army led by Almeric de St. Lawrence.
The Cistercian Abbey of Knockmoy was founded in 1189-90 by the King of Connacht (Cathal Crovdearg O Connor, who was buried there in 1244) in the years 1189-1190. Knockmoy is rare in that it has a fresco still (barely) visible on the wall of the chancel, probably from around 1400. The monastery was plundered in 1200 (by William De Burgo) and in 1228, and the Abbot was censured in 1240 for having his hair washed by a woman. In 1483, the abbot was accused of setting fire to the abbey. The church has a nave, chancel, transept and two chapels. The rib vaulted chancel has fine carved capitals and an east window.

Devastation for residents in Abbeyknockmoy.
ThatsFarming took a trip to Abbeyknockmoy, to meet with some of the concerned locals. The N63 redevelopment was supposed to be a good thing for the area. Special thanks to TD Ann Rabbitte for her ongoing support to locals and on the day of filming.
Quiet Man Bridge - Oughterard - County Galway - Ireland

Kilmoylan Cemetery - County Galway, Ireland
A short video of the Kilmoylan Cemetery and church ruin tucked away in a beautiful corner of Ireland. The cemetery can be found on R347 between the town of Athenry and Tuam in County Galway Ireland. Some curious cattle investigated us from just outside the stone wall of the graveyard. The toppled ruin of an old church is the focal point of the site, and is surrounded by celtic crosses. The cemetery remains in active use today.
