Sir Walter Scott's Home in Scotland
Open House visited one of Scotland’s most fascinating places, Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott. Created almost 200 years ago on the banks of the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders, Abbotsford was the culmination of Scott’s creative ambitions as a writer and often the source of his inspiration. 10th August 2010 at 10 o'clock at night. Well, nearly. More like half past nine. No red sunset, sadly; disappointed again. Except no, the view is always inspiring. I keep stopping off here, and one day, or rather, one evening . . . . . .

Benidorm Jet2 fear as Brit family plagued with sickness 'I have PTSD'
HOLIDAYMAKERS Sally Ellis and her daughter Lizzie had been looking forward to a £7,000 dream week away to Benidorm. Sally had even paid extra to make sure children Ronan, 19, Jessica, 15, Charlie 13, Oliver, 10, Lilly Beth, 4, and Dolly, 12 months, had access to the Tropical Magic Splash Resort's water park. Unfortunately, the dream Jet2 holiday Sally, Lizzie and their partners had planned, was far from perfect. The family endured a wave of sickness, were allegedly attacked in the pool by unruly customers and watched on as a cleaner used the same mop she had “mopped up sick” with to clean a handrail. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Sally, from Birmingham, described the “vile” holiday her family endured which has left them refusing to ever go abroad again. Sally, 51, said: “The trouble began about eight weeks before we were due to fly, when I saw comments on Trip Advisor saying that there was a stomach bug in the hotel. “It wasn’t just one comment, there were quite a few people saying they’ve got sickness and diarrhoea and that they’ve reported it to Jet 2. I called Jet2 and asked about the reports because I have a 21-year-old who is quite vulnerable, he’s got autism, chronic asthma and allergies. Last time he was sick, it resulted in him having a massive asthma attack and it was a risk I didn’t want to take. “I explained the situation to Jet2 and let them know we had someone vulnerable in our party and customer service told me there wasn’t a problem and I agreed to watch and wait to see if there were any other reports.” Following advice from Jet2, Sally watched the comments on Trip Advisor over the next two weeks. Sally said there wasn't any reports at first, but reports of sickness from holidaying Brits started appearing on the site. She said: “For a couple weeks there weren’t any more reports and then people started commenting again so I phoned Jet2 who tried to tell me there wasn’t a problem, but eventually they admitted that yes, they have had a sickness bug at the hotel and they were going to sanction the hotel. “ At the same time, Jet 2 said they had it under control and it was just one floor and again, advised me to watch and wait. “I left it a couple weeks again, and there were no reports, but once again they started flooding in.” Concerned about her family, Sally called Jet2 once more before the holiday but was advised once again to watch reports and wait. She said: “I called Jet 2 again and I said I wanted a full refund or to change the holiday, and I was offered to change but on the condition I paid extra. “I’m not being funny but this was four weeks before the holiday, I had paid £7,000 in total for the holiday and the other water parks were now £10,000 - £11,000 - I don’t have that money. “I was told I had to pay it or not go, eventually the advisor said to watch and wait again as there hadn’t been any new reports.” Sadly for the family of 12, the dream holiday took a turn from the moment they arrived in
