Japan Floods Deaths After Kyushu Rain Rise To 15

The death toll from flooding caused by recent heavy rain in southern Japan has risen to at least 15, officials say.
Emergency teams are searching for another 15 people who are missing.
Rivers burst their banks, destroying buildings and roads after more than 50cm (20in) of rain fell on parts of Kyushu, Japan's southernmost island, over a 12-hour period on Wednesday.
Rescuers are working through thick mud to try to reach stranded survivors. Hundreds have already been evacuated.

　天下の名瀑としてその名を轟かす白糸の滝。
この滝は、富士山の雪解け水が、上部の水を通す地層である新富士火山層と下部の水を通さない地層である古富士火山層の境の絶壁から湧き出しています。高さ20m・幅150ｍの湾曲した絶壁から、大小数百の滝が流れ落ちています。
　その姿は白糸の名にふさわしく、幾筋もの絹糸をたらしているようです。優しく、女性的な美しさで、滝壺近くに立つと、三方が水のアーチとなって幻想的な世界を見せてくれます。
国の名勝及び天然記念物。(平成2年日本の滝百選に選定)
白糸の滝の隣には、曽我兄弟伝説でも知られる雄大な音止の滝もあります。

Ryugashido Cavern (Japan) - 4K

Looking for exploration in the Kanto region outside of Tokyo? Head to Shizuoka Prefecture for the Ryugashido Cavern, a peek into the depths of Japan that’s located conveniently from the Hamamatsu city center.

First discovered in the 1980s inside Ryugashi Mountain, this limestone cavern is thought to be over 250 million years old. The cave itself is huge, over 1,000 meters long, and is well worth seeing while in Japan.

The cave features various rock formations as well as an underground waterfall. The Golden Waterfall, or Ogon no Taki in Japanese, is 30 meters high, making it one of the biggest underground waterfalls in Japan. Even in summer, the temperature of the cave is comfortable and cool.

北八ヶ岳ロープウェイは、八ヶ岳の北端に位置する北横岳と縞枯山の間に架かり、山麓駅（標高1,771m）から山頂駅（同2,237m）までの高低差466mを約7分で駆け上がります。その間、刻々と変わる山岳風景を目の前に眺める空の旅は迫力満点。降り立つ山頂では日本三大アルプスの絶景と、溶岩台地を覆う低木や高山植物が群生する坪庭自然園が広がり1周30分ほどの散策路には自然そのままの高山植物が季節毎に咲き、訪れる方々を魅了します。
また、ロープウェイを利用することによって、北八ヶ岳周辺の登山が容易になり、特にロープウェイ山頂駅からの『北横岳』登山ルートは、年代を問わずに大変人気があります。観光や登山、トレッキングに是非ご利用ください。
四季折々の魅力にあふれた北八ヶ岳には、ゆっくり歩いてみたい大自然があふれています。

Number of Japanese tourists to S. Korea increased 4.6% y/y in August

The number of Japanese visitors to South Korea increased by more than four-and-a-half percent last month compared to a year ago.
According to the Korea Tourism Organization on Monday,... the figure came to almost 330-thousand.
In contrast, the number of South Koreans going to Japan was down.
According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, around 309-thousand South Koreans went to Japan in August, down 50 percent on year.
Many South Koreans are boycotting Japanese products and canceling plans to travel to the country in protest against Tokyo's recent trade curbs on Seoul.

Water Channel

I discovered this pleasant man-made water-channel while exploring the river bed of the mighty Abe river after a typhoon flood. There was something delightful about the pleasant flow and light tinkle sounds of water in the channel. This was especially true when taken into consideration that only a few days prior the entire area had been underwater while the larger river was flooding its banks.

THE PATH OF WILDNESS

The Path of Wildness is easy to find
The course of a stream
Leaves blown in the wind
A beast's track through the brush
And the direction of our first inclination

The Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined, step-like episodes between birth and death. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don't bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone.
