About the torrent river canyoning experience:
From Marahau you’ll join us on an exhilarating water taxi ride through the Astrolabe Roadstead into Anchorage. You then leave the golden sand beaches of the coast for a stunning 1.5 hour walk up and further into the Abel Tasman National Park. Along the way the guides will keep you entertained with endless amounts of stories about the history, culture, flora and fauna of the park. Delicious lunch is served before the action starts. At the top of the canyon you’ll jump into your rubber suit, crank your harness tight and pop your helmet on. After a clear safety briefing by the guides you enter the truly remote environment of the canyon. You’ll be jumping, sliding, abseiling, scrambling, floating and ziplining through this canyon for about 3.5 hours. The trip finishes with a royal slide into Cleopatras Pool…From the pool it is a 30 minute stroll along the river and the beach back to Anchorage where your water taxi awaits to zip you back to Marahau.

Abel Tasman Canyons - Living a Kiwi Life - Ep. 41
Jumping, flipping, sliding and zip-lining through Abel Tasman Canyons! Abel Tasman is famous for its beaches but what many people don’t know are that is has wicked canyons also. This was a full day adventure with Abel Tasman Canyons ( on the Torrent river. We had no idea what to expect as we had never done any canyoning before but this trip packed in some cool variety the whole way (boat ride, trek through the forest, climbs, slides, jumps, zip lines, abseils and a cool tidal crossing - at high tide). The guides and group of canyoners on this trip were all incredible. Our only problem now is that we have to add yet another thing (canyoning) to our list of activities we want to do more of! :)

Marahau Travel Guide - New Zealand Magical Moments
Marahau Travel Guide - New Zealand Magical Moments
Marahau (Maori: Mārahau) is a very small settlement in the Tasman Region of the South Island of New Zealand, approximately 19 kilometres (12 mi) north of Motueka. Its location on Tasman Bay and at the southern entrance of Abel Tasman National Park makes it a popular holiday destination for those keen on outdoor activities. People access the Abel Tasman from Marahau by tramping, kayaking and water taxi. In Marahau itself, the beach offers sheltered and safe swimming, and horse trekking is popular throughout the busy summer season.
Marahau guards the eastern entrance to the Abel Tasman National Park. From the Abel Tasman Centre in Marahu you can book water taxis, hire kayaks, embark on a canyoning adventure or set off on the Coastal Walking Track. The sleepy settlement is the perfect place to get away from it all. Choose from a range of backpacker and self-contained accommodation, or the camping grounds which are popular over the summer holiday season.
Marahau's sprawling beach offers safe swimming and at low tide you can even see people wiggling their toes in the sand – but really, they are just digging for shellfish and cockles. For a memorable meal, make yourself comfortable at Hooked on Marahu, the sunny waterfront café and beer garden, with grand views of the beach and delicious local, organic dishes. For a casual lunch or dinner, you can't miss Fat Tui Burger, serving up world famous burgers from a caravan.
Abel Tasman National Park is a wilderness reserve at the north end of New Zealand’s South Island. It’s known for the Abel Tasman Coast Track, a long trail winding over beaches and across ridges between Marahau in the south and Wainui in the north. The headland at Separation Point is home to New Zealand fur seal colonies. Little blue penguins, bottlenose dolphins and seals inhabit the Tonga Island Marine Reserve.
Tokangawhā / Split Apple Rock is a geological rock formation in Tasman Bay off the northern coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Made of granite from the cretaceous, it is in the shape of an apple which has been cut in half. The cleft to produce two sides of the 'apple' was a naturally occurring joint.
The Abel Tasman Coast Track is a 60 kilometres long walking track within the Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand. It extends from Marahau in the south to Wainui in the north, with many side tracks. The Ngarua Caves are a series of limestone caves in the Takaka Hill range south of Abel Tasman National Park. The caves are located close to Takaka Hill's summit, adjacent to State Highway 60 as it winds its way over the Takaka Hill between Motueka and Upper Takaka.
Tinline Bay is a cove and beach located within The Abel Tasman National Park in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located approximately 2 kilometres from the entrance to the park near Marahau and is the southern start of The Abel Tasman Inland Track. The town of Motueka in the South Island of New Zealand lies close to the mouth of the Motueka River, on the western shore of Tasman Bay. It is, after Richmond, the second largest centre in the Tasman Region
A lot to see in Marahau such as :
Tokangawhā / Split Apple Rock
Abel Tasman National Park
Abel Tasman Coast Track
Ngarua Caves
Te Pukatea Bay
Tinline Bay
Honeymoon Bay
Apple Tree Bay
Coquille Bay

Abel Tasman #1
This is my first impression of the beautiful national park, the Abel Tasman, named after the first explorer of New Zealand.
He arrived and saw many lights made by fire from the Maori.
The inhabitants blow a horn (sign to show they are ready to attack) and Abel Tasman thought it was an act to welcome them. So he did the same (and signalised the Maori he wants to fight) with a view to greet them back. A little ship was sent but the Maori came with there Waka, killed the men and ate one of thems brain to gain mana( a traditional act). So Abel left this place immediately and never returned.
Good luck we life in the 21 century and don't have to fear about that, so we could enjoy a really great and amazing time!!
