Andy's National Trust Travel Blogs: Aberdulais Tin Mine and Waterfall, South Wales
There are 500+ places of interest in the UK under the National Trust banner and I will be attempting to visit as many as I can, reporting as I do all the important stuff relative to accessibility.
In this episode I went over the border into Wales to visit an old tin mine called Aberdulais. It was fully accessible with lifts and ramps, however doing it alone was very difficult. Luckily, I had a young helper and I got chatting to his Dad, an avid youtuber too.

Waterwheel Generator Aberdulais Falls South Wales UK
On a trip to Aberdulais Falls in South Wales UK, i took a bit of video and a few photos, so here is some of the footage and photos
The wheel uses the overshot method, and was originally used in the tinworks for processing, but now powers a generator to supply the visitor centre.

White Stork Aberdulais 29Apr11.wmv
There have been a few sightings of White Stork in the Neath area through recent years; I've missed them all! Today, all that changed when Rob Jones called me to inform me one was on a lamp post on the A465 near the Aberdulais roundabout. Sure enough 20mins later i drove right underneath it. Quite a number of Storks in the British Isles today, something to do with a massive wedding no doubt!

Aberdulais Falls - Water Wheel
The water wheel at Aberdulais Falls generates enough power to keep the site running. I found it quite mesmerising.
Steve Lane Visit to South Wales (wrap up vid)
Steve Lane spent Easter weekend in the rolling hills and valleys of South Wales UK, part of the visit was to bring me a NST (10KV @ 50mA) so i can run my coils better
The other main reason was to visit Internal fire museum, and take in a couple of other interesting places.
He also brought some other goodies, some i could keep, others just for a play.
Links to places of interest that we visited:
TinMan's 98 Version 2.0
The first step in the 98 project.
Machine the grip off, bore the body to remove the front bolt area.
The 98 will use a non spool dump chamber of my design.
The Kymin
The Kymin is a a hill dominating the skyline above the town of Monmouth with far reaching views over many counties of England and Wales.
At the summit are two neo-classical monuments that are over 200 years old.
The Naval Temple
This was built to commemorate Lord Nelsons British naval fleets victory over Napoleon Bonaparte French fleet after a three month naval campaign between the two sides.
16 plaques adorn the structure - with the names of 16 admirals and their most famous victories.
The stone statue of Britannia holding a trident on top of the memorial has recently been replaced with a new one by master mason Philip Chatfield after the original disappeared in the 1860's.
The two paintings adorning the monument were commissioned from Laura V. Stevens of Decorworks.co.uk
The Roundhouse
This round tower was built as a meeting place for the local aristocracy.
In the upper part of the tower was a banqueting room and the roof provided a viewpoint and place for a powerful telescope
In the grounds a bowling green was laid down - and a series of walks / viewpoints were constructed in Beaulieu Grove

Hydro-Electric Water-Wheel
Aberdulais Falls, South Wales, in the summer of 2011.
This beautiful Water Wheel previously powered the workings of a tin mine, but now provides the electricity that powers the vistor centre, in combination with a more modern vertical-axis water-turbine.
Walk under highest waterfall in South Wales
Henrhyd waterfall in the Nant Llech valley, is the highest waterfall in South Wales, with a drop of 27m. There's a car park nearby, just outside the village of Coelbren. From here, it's a short, steep and rocky but very nice walk. With care, you can walk under the waterfall as shown in this video. Henrhyd Falls and Graigllech Woods. Southern Britain's highest waterfall is tucked away on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. Plunging 90ft (27m) into a wooded gorge, Henrhyd waterfall is a spectacular sight and the surrounding Graigllech Woods are a haven for wildlife.
