Mountain Biking Around Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park in Scotland #MTB
Planned a mountain bike ride around Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. I started in Aberfoyle and made stops at Loch Katrine, Inversnaid, Balhama and Drymen.
Total distance: 60.88 miles
Elevation gain: 5,583 feet
I started around 5 a.m. and finished at 3 p.m.

Trouble in the Trossachs. Aberfoyle MTB, steep and technical.
A day out exploring some of the trails around Aberfoyle. Started with a steep technical black run before warming up which didn't work out as planned. I then moved over by Go Ape and tried some of the red and blue trails. Next time I'll finish on the Black runs and I'll know what to expect.
After starting I realised Strava wasn't working properly and my gps beacon couldn't be traced. In hindsight riding solo on those trails wasn't perhaps the best idea without anyone knowing where you are. I noticed a few man size shapes on the steep slopes by the corners and managed to add the that collection after getting caught in a steep rut.
As I traverse the hill about 3.40 you can get a better idea of how steep the run is to the left.
I also tackled the Go Ape red descents but had mud all over my lens and forgot to check before them.
As a reckie mission it was good and has thrown up a few learning points which I'll hopfully address on the next visit here. Definitely not starting on the black runs then.
If you are looking for food after the ride I had a good double cheeseburger from the local butcher which I can highly recommend and was very reasonable for a touristy town.
After that I visited the local bike shop and had a coffee and chat with Ross the mechanic who cleaned my bike and has given my a few pointers for other trails to try. Very helpful staff worth stopping by if you are visiting.

Aberfoyle to Loch Katrine Cycle
Another great sunny day out on the bike from Aberfoyle to Loch Katrine over the Dukes Pass. Stunning views over Loch Achray before heading to the Trossachs Pier to see the Sir Walter Scott steamship. A well earned break at the Stronachlachar Pier Café for coffee and cake before returning back on the B829 via Loch Chon and Loch Ard to Aberfoyle.

Aberfoyle Apartment - winter snow all around
google sykescottages.co.uk and select property 4295. Its a real cool apartment/attic flat in a building which used to be known as the 'Baillie Nicol Jarvie Court Hotel'. You can see the building in this video clip and get a feel for its location in the village of Aberfoyle. The advert says that the flat takes only 3 people, but it has two double beds - a couple with kids will have a fab time. This wee self-catering apartment is a find, its central for everything. You can walk to the David Marshall Lodge visitor centre and get hurtled through the air 150 feet above ground on Britain longest zip wire (GoApe) or watch the live CCTV images of the Aberfoyle Ospreys. The 'Aberfoyle Apartment' is a minutes walk-away from the local supermarket (Co-op) open from about 7am till 10pm every day. The pub is just over the road (The Forth Inn) so you don't need to drink and drive. Ben A'an, Ben Venue, Loch Katrine and Loch Ard are hills and lochs you will grow to love. The Forest Hills water sports centre (you'll see the sign for it in this video clip, shows as only 4 miles of beautiful driving, walking or cycling away), home to 'Go Country' where orienteering, clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking, quad biking, horse riding, fishing and a host of other sports are on offer. Aberfoyle has everything you need for a Scottish holiday. The Scenery is stunning. Both the A821 (Dukes pass) and the B829 (LochArd Road) are magnificent drives through a landscape second to none.
