Shocking History of Abergavenny Castle
Took a trip to Abergavenny Castle and saw the statues in the church. Found out about some of the history of the castle. William De Braose, one of the owners, was not a good person. I say he was a great uncle in this but have since worked on other bits of my tree. When I checked again he is actually my 23rd grandfather.

Places to see in ( Usk - UK )
Usk is a small town in Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, situated 10 miles northeast of Newport. It is located on the River Usk, which is spanned by an arched stone bridge at the western entrance to the town.
A castle above the town overlooks the ancient crossing point. It developed as a small market town, with some industry including the making of Japanware, and a notable prison. In recent years Usk has become known for its history of success in Britain in Bloom competitions, winning the Large Village award in 2005.
The first stone bridge at Usk, replacing one of wood, was built around 1750 to the designs of Welsh architect William Edwards. Unlike the bridge downstream at Caerleon, it withstood the great floods of 1795. The bridge was strengthened and widened in 1836, but two of its arches were destroyed by floods in 1877 and later replaced.
From the late 18th century, Usk became well known for the high quality of its japanware, a process of decorating metals by applying a lacquer to tinplate. The process, known as Pontypool japan, was first developed in the west by Thomas Allgood of nearby Pontypool and was taken on in Usk in 1763 by his grandsons Thomas and Edward Allgood. Products from Usk included tin trays, jardinières, and coal boxes. However output declined with changing fashions in the 19th century, and the last Usk japanware was produced in 1860 on the site of what is now Bunning's builders' merchants.
Usk was twinned with the German town Graben-Neudorf in Baden-Württemberg in 1980. Over the past few years there have been numerous visits between the two towns, with the Usk Youth Brass Band making its most recent visit in autumn 2006. In 2006 the colour scheme of Usk in Bloom was based on those within the crests of both Usk and Graben-Neudorf.
( Usk - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Usk . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Usk - UK

Description
LMS 44871 & 45407 powering through the Welsh Marches at Abergavenny 29/11/2014
Ian Riley's Black 5's were at it again as they once again headed up the Welsh Marches twice in a week. This was the starting point before they take over most of Steam Dreams 'The Cathedrals Express' trips in December right up to Xmas. It was a funny day with late, overpacked trains due to the rugby and odd weather with nice sun in Wales apart from my location at Abergavenny with cloud and mist on the horizon.
To kick things off, I headed to Huckford Viaduct near Winterbourne to get the two black 5's hauling their support coaches to Gloucester were they will take over the train. The weather is suitable as there was a bit of mist in the air along the fields were I filmed from.
Obviously, my next location was Abergavenny, but a different shot compared to other videos I filmed at. I noticed there was a foot crossing near the station and thought why not. That tactic definitely paid off as 44871 and 45407 roar past on time with a little toot of the typical LMS Whistle and the noise was absolutely deafening as they attacked the steep climb up to Llanvihangel Bank with their heavy load.
Anyway , hope you enjoy!
Two Mainline Steam Trains in 10 Minutes at Abergavenny - 44871 and 60163 - 23/11/2019
After last week's success over the Welsh Marches line with the Black Fives, Today was a big day for mainline steam as not one but two steam engines venture on the same line towards Hereford and Shrewsbury. The engines featured were 60163 Tornado and supposed to be 60009 Union of South Africa. Unfortunately for the A4 she failed on her light engine run to Southall on Thursday with a hot box and even though it was fixed for Friday's run she suffered the same fate. so instead a Black Five from Ian Riley was a suitable replacement. The engine that replaced the A4 was no. 44871, but the load was too heavy to haul on her own over the steeply graded Welsh Marches Line and in particular in autumn. So the diesel was on the back for some much needed assistance. Tornado on the other hand had a pretty light load compared to her previous runs, but I guess the tour wasn't as popular as expected, at least it wasn't cancelled due to low bookings.
the engines put on different displays to each other. The Black Fives was held up before Abergavenny and had a slow run through the station, but sounded amazing with her distinctive exhaust bark. Even better the diesel on the back didn't do anything until it past my camcorder and can be heard opening up ready to push the train up Llanvihangel Bank. Tornado however put in a incredible display, roaring through the station at 70mph just 10 minutes behind the Black Five.
Thanks to the Black Five being delayed, it was 10 minutes from each other, whereas if both were on time they would be around 25 minutes from each other. That's what made this occasion even more remarkable, as rarely you see two steam trains on different railtours following each other on the same route.
Hope you really enjoyed that video. If you love this video, please leave a like on the video and if you want to see more from me than please hit the Subscribe button for more steam action in the near future. Enjoy.
UK News Event : Snowfall, Winter 2013 : Sugar Loaf Mountain, near Abergavenny in South Wales
Video/Movie clip recorded in the hills around Abergavenny, South Wales, UK in January 2013.
Early January saw quite a heavy snowfall of about 9-12 inches, so made the most of the lovely 'winter wonderland' scenery with a hike up the Sugar Loaf, a 600m/2000ft Hill/Mountain just 3-4 miles from the small market town of Abergavenny.
As can be seen in the clip, the weather was a bit cloudy and misty for most of the morning ... but luckily it became lovely and clear when I made the summit later in the afternoon.
