Exterior Parish Church Aberlemno Angus Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of the exterior of the Parish Church and cemetery on ancestry visit to Aberlemno, Angus. The first written record of a church at Aberlemno was in 1242. It is possible that the church here at that time was a renaming of an earlier church, Egglespether, which is recorded in 1161 as belonging to Restenneth Priory. There may have been a church on this site from as early as 710, when King Nechtan of the Picts imported masons from Northumbria, England, to build Restenneth Priory and other stone churches, including Egglespether. The present church dates back to a major rebuilding of an earlier rectangular structure which took place in 1722. What emerged was a T-plan kirk of the type that became so popular across post-Reformation Scotland. A bell was added in 1728, and the galleries in 1856. More minor changes took place in the second half of the 1900s.
Interior Parish Church Aberlemno Angus Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of the interior of the Parish Curch on ancestry visit to Aberlemno, Angus. The interior of the church carries a number of reminders of its history. These include what seems to be an extremely old font, and a series of three memorials, to the three generations of the Mitchell family who served as ministers here throughout the 126 years from 1715 to 1841.
Tour Aberlemno Pictish Stones Scotland
Tour Aberlemno Pictish Stones in Angus, Scotland. This village and parish is known for carved Pictish stones dating from the 7th and 8th centuries AD. The stones can be viewed at any time in spring to autumn, but are covered by wooden boxes in the winter to prevent frost damage. Two stones and a fragment stand by the B9134 Forfar-Brechin road, the Kirkyard Stone stands in the nearby graveyard of the parish church.
The Pictish Standing Stones of Aberlemno, Angus, Scotland.
I have known and loved these stones nearly all my life. I attended the primary school just across the road from the 3 stone group, and went to Sunday school and church in Aberlemno Kirk where the single stone is. Looking past the kirkyard standing-stone and opposite, over the dyke, you will catch a glimpse of the Kirkton of Aberlemno farmstead (where I used to go tattie-picking as a bairn). The stones speak for themselves and if you view this video, I hope it may capture for you just a little of their awesome beauty.
Aberlemno Battle Stone Scotland
Aberlemno Battle Stone, Angus, Scotland. A remarkable pictish stone which shows an encounter between two sets of warriors. One set, on the right, wear typical Angle helmets, while the others, on the left, have archetypal Pictish hairstyles. This Class II Pictish Stone is located in Aberlemno churchyard, north of Dunnichen, in Angus, and dates from around 500 AD

Wake up and live, wake up and live!
Wake up and live, rise and shine
Make love and give, I and I
are like the example, it amplifies
and illuminates like candlelight
It's all about how you handle life
Play the nyabinghi drum and make we chant all night
Babylon see we come and know the judgement is nigh
where you gonna run? where you gonna hide?
Said Im a living man, I got work to do
Take another toke then i break through
Pictish clan debut,
who knew we'd see thru the world view
that everybody clings to
It's crazy to say smoking herb makes you lazy
I smoke 24/7 and I never stop blazing
Grow my dreadlocks and keep myself busy
Defy all limits, wake up and start living!
Inna this time the youth need self motivation
Make them mind settle and hold a meditation
Give thanks and praise cause it's a day of celebration
Dissolving boundaries, Liberation
Adapt to I surroundings, transformation
this ancient equation still giving us frustration
our generation will inherit civilisation
so let's get up and take control of the situation

Forteviot Church Scotland
Forteviot Church, Perthshire, Scotland. Forteviot was the site of an important Pictish settlement in the reign of King Oengus. With the defeat of the Picts by the Scots in the ninth century, Kenneth mac alpin had his palace there. Legend has it that the first Christian Church at Forteviot was built in response to the visit of Kilrymont, St. Andrews, monks to the valley during the eighth century. Certainly a basilica existed from the first half of that century. In 1165 William the Lion granted Forteviot to his chaplain, Richard of Stirling. From early in the thirteenth century, Forteviot was in the Deanery of Gowrie, Diocese of St. Andrews. The rector of Forteviot was a canon of St. Salvator's. After the Reformation, St. Andrews University became the patron. The present building, the third, was erected in 1778.

Interior Parish Church Dundee Scotland
Tour Scotland Christmas video of St. Mary's Parish Church, Dundee, Scotland. The church dates back to 1190, when it was founded by David, Earl of Huntingdon, brother of William the Lion, King of Scots. The original buildings have not survived. In 1303 the church was burnt by an invading English army. Following a further invasion in 1547 the church was burnt down again. In the late Middle Ages, Dundee's was the largest parish church in Scotland with, in the Old Steeple, the tallest tower. In 1841 the City Churches were again destroyed by fire. In the 1870s Sir George Gilbert Scott was employed to remodel St Mary's, creating the present Victorian Gothic Revival interior.

This ancient carved sandstone cross carries images on four sides of fantastical animals and plants with Celtic interlace and Anglian influences. It dates from circa 9th Century and can be compared with the Ruthwell and Bewcastle crosses.
It seems to be in its original site near to the old ford over the River Nith at Thornhill.
