The official opening of the new Aboudi Bookstore in Luxor, Egypt (27/01/11) - the original shop had been moved to make room for the new developments. The guest of honour was to have been Dr Zahi Hawass but unfortunately he was delayed elsewhere and didn't make it :(

Woman Reveals 42 Year Secret of Survival as a man
For More Latest News Subscribe us:
She has worked for more than 30 years among the shoeshine men of Luxor. She sits with men in coffee shops, prays with them in the local mosque and dresses just as they do in pants or a traditional floor-length tunic known as a galabeya.
Many people believed Sisa Abu Daooh was a man until several weeks ago, when she publicly revealed her 42-year-old secret.
Perhaps surprisingly in a society where many hold conservative notions of gender roles, Daooh's announcement was greeted not with condemnation but with curiosity and a flurry of mostly positive reactions from local news media and officials. On Sunday, Egypt's president, Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, personally gave her an award for being an extraordinary mother.

Apologies from, and good news for, the protesters
Monday, February 21, 2011
Today Dr Zahi Hawass, the Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs, met with a group of young archaeologists who were representatives of the protesters who have been picketing the Ministry building in recent days. These university graduates have been campaigning for employment within the newly created Ministry, but today came to offer their apologies to Dr Hawass. The meeting was an impromptu event during which the Minister was offered flowers by the students as a gesture of goodwill.
Even before Dr Hawass became the Minister at the end of January 2011, he had been seeking funding in order to create new jobs for the country's many graduates. The students made it clear today that their protests were only held because there had previously been a lack of information about how the Ministry, formerly known as the Supreme Council of Antiquities, was trying to address the lack of jobs available for newly qualified archaeologists and restorers.
During the meeting, Dr Hawass gave the students the surprise news that new appointments would be made according to a schedule starting in March 2011. The first phase of this plan will provide jobs for 900 archaeologists and restorers, who will be given paid training within the Ministry for a period of 5 months. The second phase will follow the completion of the first phase and will provide the same paid training for 500 people, followed by an identical third phase.
Horse Carriage Ride in Luxor Egypt
A random video taken while riding the horse carriage in Luxor Egypt. You can hear Salah (Islamic Prayer) in the background. The vans on the street are actually the hop-on hop-off taxi for the local people. Luxor Railway Station is at the end of the video. Many buildings seem to be half built but in fact people are already living in there since they want to save the money for decorating the interior .
