Rock-Hewn Churches of Tigray, Ethiopia in HD
The ancient rock-hewn churches of Tigray were built between 4th and 15th century, there are more than 100 of them. They offer amazing atmospheric ambience and views over spectacular landscapes. In this video visit to 6 of the most appealing churches in Tigray - interesting either historically, architecturally or because they offer the most spectacular views over the surrounding landscapes. We hiked to 3 of the Gheralta cluster churches: Maryam and Daniel Korkor, Abuna Yemata Guh; visited Mikael Imba (Atsbi cluster), Medhane Alem Adi Kasho and Petros and Paulos (Teka Tesfai cluster), and Abreha We Atsbeha (Wukro cluster).

Climbing Monks of Ethiopia | A Jaunt Monkey Voyage to Debre Damo Monastery
Please do subscribe to Jaunt Monkey:
Climbing Monks of Ethiopia was a phrase that I coined for the monks and priests of Debre Damo Monastery in Tigray Region of Ethiopia. I was traveling from Dessie to Aksum (Axum) for celebrating St. Marys Day and we passed through a mountain top monastery in Ethiopia - Debre Damo. The monks and the priests lived on a cliff that was elevated from the ground by 300 meters. It is believed that the monastery is almost 1400 years old. Pilgrims, both old and young, tried their bit to grab a rope that hanged from the cliff-top monastery to reach there. I was keen too but later changed my mind after seeing the population and the struggle.
Debre Damo is approximately 950 kilometers from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
I was traveling from Dessie, a small town 400 kilometers north to Addis Ababa. From Dessie it is almost 530 kilometers to Debre Damo. The nearest city is Mek'ele at 170 kilometers distance and with an airport.
Ethiopia is an African country with several heritage sites to watch and experience.
