As-Salt
As-Salt is a hillside town about 30 minutes from Amman that used to be the capital of Jordan. It's Ottoman yellow stone architecture with long arched windows and ironwork reflects its significance as an Ottoman trading post. The food market of Hammam Street is overlooked by an Ottoman mosque. Visit the Historic Old Salt Museum, in the Abu Jaber mansion (1892) with its Italian frescoed ceilings. There is an Archaeological Museum that have artifacts from the 4500–3300 B.C. to the 16th century.
There is evidence that As-Salt has been settled since the Iron Age. Potentially because of its position on trade routes, fertile soil, abundant water supply and moderate climate. The influence of the trading may have created the tolerant coexistence of a mixed Muslim-Christian population in the region. During the Byzantine period, the area was known as Saltos Hieraticon. There are also Roman tombs on the outskirts of the town. There is a large mosque on the site of an ancient citadel. This site had a turbulent history with the subsequent fortress built in the 13th century being raised by Mongols in 1260 and by Egyptians in 1840.
As-Salt location made it vital to trade routes during in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this picturesque town fell into decline when Amman was chosen as the capital of Jordan. There are many denominations of churches in As-Salt for the approximate 30% Christian population. They include a Greek Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic. Also, take the opportunity to view Salt city from the Al-Qala’a Lookout, it is worth the effort.
When you are in Jordan you will see the variety of architecture unique to each region. As-Salt has a small archaeological museum. Aim to visit As-Salt Zaman, a restored building in the heart of the town. As-Salt houses a Handicraft School so it charmingly furnished with antiques and handicrafts traditional skills of weaving, ceramics and silk screen printing.

Shish Kebabs Meat Platter in Jordan!
Get more Amman travel tips, things to do, where to stay, and delicious food here:
On Day 4 of our trip to Jordan, we started off in Amman where we had a wonderful simple and local style breakfast of manakish, which are rounds of dough which are flattened, topped with simple things like zaatar and cheese, and baked in an oven. We then took a day trip to As-Salt or also just known as Salt, a historical city about a 45 minute drive from the center of Amman. The highlight of the day for me was the giant shish kebab meat platter that we ate for lunch!
00:38 Manakish - Manakish is something you’ll eat a lot of when you visit the Levant and in Jordan it’s a very popular snack and meal. Manakish is a piece of rounded dough which is flattened out and topped in a variety of different things. We ordered a manakish topped with zaatar, a special herb thyme blend, and also a couple topped with Jordanian white cheese, which is similar to halloumi cheese. They were all excellent mainly because they were baked so fresh and just used simple but delicious ingredients. Price - 1 JD ($1.41) each
04:20 Day to to As-Salt, Historic Old Salt Museum - 1 JD ($1.41) - Out main activity of the day was taking a short day trip to Salt, an ancient and historical city that was one of the commercial and trade centers of Jordan. We started off at the Historic Salt Museum, where we had a tour and learned a little bit about the importance of the city and how it influenced and shaped Jordan. We then took a stroll through Hamam street, the center old market street in Salt.
07:27 Al-Salam Restaurant - For lunch we went to a Jordanian meat bbq restaurant in the center of Salt called Al-Salam Restaurant. The first dish I tasted was the hummus ma lahma, a plate of hummus topped with minced meat fried in lard - it took hummus to the next level - it was absolutely incredible. Then came galayet with meat, a thick tomato based dish with minced meat in it as well. It was delicious with bread. From there, this Jordanian meal just got better and better. Arayes is a dish of bread stuffed with minced lamb and seasoning, then grilled over charcoal. The fat from the lamb makes the bread nearly taste like it’s deep fried because it gets so crispy, yet it’s merely grilled - and it was insanely delicious. But the ultimate winner of our Jordanian meat feast this time was the platter of shish kebabs and lamb pieces. The minced meat was mixed with parsley and seasoning, salted quite heavily, then grilled over hot charcoal. The mix and ratio of meat to fat ensured that the meat had an incredibly pronounced smoky taste. Total price - 25 JD ($35.26) for 4
14:01 Anabtawi Sweets - For dessert we took a walk down the road to a famous Jordanian sweets shop called Anabtawi Sweets, where Fadi ordered a mix of different desserts including hareeseh, one of the famous desserts, cream fingers, and warbat. They were all very sweet, but alright in small portions - I’m not a huge desserts lover. My favorite dessert was probably the warbat, it was kind of a cross between a cheese cake and baklava. What I really enjoyed about eating this dessert is the Arabic coffee that went with it. After having this cup of Arabic coffee, I was immediately hooked.
17:26 Thyme & More - Although it was unplanned at first, we decided to stop by a place called Thyme & More to taste some different and unique varieties of za’atar, a thyme and herb blend that’s very common in Jordan, and something I really loved eating. We tasted some incredible za’atar, and then the owner kindly invited us to have dinner at his restaurant where he served us some pizza and a giant calzone.

Kan Zamaan Ramadan 2016 مطعم كان زمان
Nestled on the hilltop of an old Jordanian village and enclosed within the stone walls of an ancient settlement is Kan Zamaan—Arabic for once upon a time. Kan Zamaan was once the focal point of Khirbet Abu Jaber, an isolated rural area developed by merchant brothers for farming and ranching. The impressive 19th century estate—dating back to Ottoman rule—served as an agricultural warehouse and a horse barn before succumbing to ruin.
The heritage estate’s 21st century renovation into a restaurant incorporates this golden past into the modern, perfectly balancing the old and new. Today, Kan Zamaan is a distinguished landmark that sheds a new light on its cultural and historic legacy, as it continues to delight local food lovers with its unique, authentic oriental and local cuisine garnished with forgotten flavors.
The restaurant’s stable transformed elegant dining room features a lavish Oriental spread alongside a wide selection of fine oriental cold and hot mezze, a signature center stage live chargrill for all of our mouthwatering chargrilled meats, and a selection of local inspired dishes. We also serve delectable grilled and salt baked fresh seafood, fresh bread, and signature clay roasted dishes. Our pastry chefs also prepare a selection of tempting desserts, boasting our one-of-a-kind live knafeh, prepared table side by our skilled chefs.
Oriental and local cuisine, authentic flavors, artisan food, art, music and culture; all find their home within the ancient walls of Kan Zamaan.
The legacy of once upon a time is now present…

Salt Museum Project
Historical Old Salt Museum Website Project stimulate all highly standards techniques in websites building field based on a science of cultural resources management and museums (CRM) with a concerning of the E-Marketing process (Social Media, SEO, SEF) to achieve goals in effective way.
This is the first heritage buildings online database all over the world, It contains all information that you need about any heritage buildings where ever they are. Special Gallery, Google maps, Description and specific detailed constant variables for every building like country, owner, rooms, Types of building, Getting There By and many others constants that can be different from building to building.
When I started this project, I followed many museums websites and I referred to many references to make project go though global standards. Also I do the best with merge the Heritage buildings Database, Here I will stop for a while to help you to imagine what is the purpose of this service. In all museums websites, there is an expectation visitors usually come from persons concerned about exactly this museum, people and students from the same country, and some foreign people. but if we add new service which is not find in other websites even though in UNESCO and all global organizations, then we can double or triple our visitors. Historical Old Salt Museum has a unique value in Jordan, but I think there are many heritage buildings maybe have a global unique value. Here, the special service will make the deference. It will be present our museum as one of the best museums all over the world, but this value dose not come from the heritage building value, NO, it's come from the unique service value. This and more will help As'salt in general to take it's right place between other cities in the world.
Also it allows every one to share their opinion through Museum community and advanced Comments system which integrated with this website in the way to achieve the highest rate in the E-marketing process.
This Project Presented by Ahmad (Basel) Kana'an and was built by depending on my working experiences in the education department in the Children's Museum of Jordan (CMJ). in addition to all principles and methodologies which I learned before in the B.S. degree of cultural resources management and museums in the Hashmite university.

STORYLINE:
Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan visited pre-natal and pediatric facilities providing health care to families of migrant workers in the outskirts of Beijing on Wednesday.
Queen Rania is the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)'s Eminent Advocate for Children.
The Chinese Government, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF have been working together to provide universal access to maternal and child health services.
They are also working to provide vaccination programmes specifically aimed at migrant populations.
The hope is that these programmes can serve as examples for low-income and migrant communities in other parts of the developing world.
Much of China's development and growth is being built by workers who come from rural areas, but these workers and their families often cannot afford adequate health care in the cities they help build.
This is the Queen's second visit to China.
Queen Rania, the mother of four children, uses her public role as Queen to promote education and child welfare in Jordan and internationally.
