A Walk Through the Aburi Botanical Garden in Ghana - AFRICA
It was hard to turn our back to the Hillburi Resort:
when we first arrived BUT work first! So after freshening up a bit after our mini bus ride from Accra we set out to explore the Aburi Botanical Garden right away. We were afraid that the gardens were too big to see all but once we arrived it was manageable and our stress level instantly dropped.
We loved the huge trees, also the strangler trees, killing their host trees. And of course the palm tree alley and all the Cacao trees were so much fun to look at. Aburi Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden in Aburi in Eastern region of South Ghana. The garden occupies an area of 64.8 hectares. It was opened in March, 1890.
Before the garden was established, it was the site of a sanatorium built in 1875 for Gold Coast government officials.

Exploring Aburi Botanical Garden
Aburi Botanical Gardens is so beautiful! The air is clean and clear, it’s smells heavenly, and I felt one with nature! It covers a land area of about 160 acres yet only 3 acres have been developed. The remaining acres is just a lush botanical reserve. It’s a scenic 45 minute drive from Accra. Today I ate cinnamon right off a tree, watched a Mimosa Pudica plant (also known as a sensitive plant) shrink when stepped on, I stood where Queen Elizabeth II once stood, I saw an old World War II helicopter, and I stood inside of a tree! I also learned different types of trees that were planted by royalty and various heads of state when they visited! It’s interesting to note that this place is also heavily used for medicinal research. Yes, Big Pharma comes here and takes various plants that nature provides naturally to create pills laced with chemicals that causes crazy side effects!

in Aburi, we left this little paradise again. Work first! So we went into town to visit the main attraction there, the Botanical Garden. Which was so refreshing, and peaceful and exactly what we needed after 2 weeks of Accra.

Media in Ghana: Aburi Botanical Gardens
On June 27th 2017 our Media in Ghana group visited the Aburi Botanical gardens, located in the hills above the city of Accra. It was an amazing place to learn about the ecology and history of Ghana. And climb on helicopters. We were also able to visit with a local carpenter! He is shown at the end, as well as his art piece the Tree of Life.

If you have never had a date with nature, then the Legon Botanical Garden is a place you have to be.
The garden is a beautiful outdoor play space for persons of all age. It is a pace you can visit alone or host friends, family and loved ones. Parties, engagements, picnics etc. can be hosted at this garden. It is definitely a place to visit.
